Goodness you guys are talkative! Ended up with more computer problems, my laptop just kicked the bucket so had to buy a new computer and try to get that set up. Been applying for jobs - so any "get a job" vibes you can spare

I'm working on getting my window back in place and doing PSMF, will see how long I can go...the fish oil burps are nasty!

Sorry to be a fly by poster - I'll try to get back later for some personals

Hugs everyone & Welcome to the newbies

Hi, everyone!

Well, I have taken a leap. I went to a local diet center yesterday. I walked in and told them that I wanted a diet plan that was low on carbs, and they told me they had a great low carb plan. For $40.00 per month, I get a diet plan, weight loss counseling and weigh-in one time per week, a B-12 shot once per week, and my multi-vitamins for the month.

I figured I need the accountability factor if I'm ever to get on a weight loss plan and stick to it. So I found this number in the phone book and committed to an appointment.

The woman there gave me my shot, my vitamins, weighed me , told me some about the program, and prepared my folder to bring back with me at next week's weigh-in.

I paid for the month, then made my way home. Once there, I started going through the folder. I took out the diet plan and read over it. I almost laughed; the diet is definitely not what I would consider low-carb. After calculating everything in my daily allowance of foods, I found that it is a 1,000 calorie, high-fiber diet. The carbs can range anywhere from 100 -150 per day, depending on food choices.

To say I was disappointed is putting it mildly. The diet is loaded with bread, potatoes, rice, and lots of fruits. That is okay if a person chooses such a diet, but I specifically asked for low-carb.

I did very much like the B-12 shot. I haven't felt this alert and awake in a very long time. I think since I have paid for the month that I will use this place for a weigh-in accountability each week and to get my shot. But when I attempted the diet this morning, I starved all day. Tonight I binged in a major way. (Yes, stupid me, knowing I had failed on just such a diet countless times before.)

I have decided to do a low-carb IF woe this month. I haven't eaten breakfast in so long that my body naturally tried to rebel on me. By lunch I felt bloated and sleepy and hungry.

Having paid for this program, I will keep my weigh in appointments and hopefully that will get me started.

Just a quick hello...backyard is halfway done! Three hours of work, but it was worth it. It already looks better. Tomorrow they will take out the old deck, dig up the rest of the weeds, and prepare to put down some stones.

I have 9 hours of Callanetics finished, yeah.

Carol, it really helped me to be accountable to a "real time" person. I think there's a benefit there.

See you all tomorroow!

Hey Missalissa! Well, there's another AMAZING looking after picture. How well you've done

Hope you get your "smelly car trouble" fixed.

Barbara, this must be very trying for you. Sending you some good thoughts and hope it helps at least a little!

I've ordered two new books, Life Without Bread and Barry Groves' latest. I'm thinking I have to get my mind around low carbing a bit more. And, like nitenurse, I might try not eating in the evenings a couple of times a week. Or at least have my main meal earlier in the day and just a snack later. I've also been checking out Alternate Day Dieting. But I guess it really is about doing what every successful dieter on this board is saying (and doing!): find a plan and stick to it! I need to spend less time finding and more time sticking to it

to all!

(And Rachel, good for you for sticking up to that neighbour. That's empowering!)

Barb - sorry to hear there are problems with your A/C installation! Hope everything gets finished quickly and doesn't take up too much more of your time!

Rachel - That's great that your backyard is already 1/2 done! I'm sure it will be beautiful when finished and you and your dd (when she comes home) will both really enjoy it!

Carol - That's not cool when you went to the appt. asking specifically for a low carb diet and they didn't give you exactly what you were looking for. Are you sure they gave you the right paperwork? LOL! You're right 100-150 carbs sounds like a lot and there shouldn't be potatoes, rice or bread, at least in the beginning. Maybe you can talk to them and just tell them your concerns on how the carbs are much higher than your used to. Good luck, I hope you get the diet plan you want!

Melissa - That's great that you lost more weight! Yay for you!

Missalissa - Sorry to hear about the problem with your car. I hope you're able to get it taken care of at a reasonable price!

Sazzie- Just had to tell you that I checked out the Wasa cracker website and discovered that the Light N' Crisp 7 grain Wasa Crackers have the lowest carbs (about 3.75 carbs each), the other crackers seem to range in 5-8 carbs each depending on which kind you choose of course. If you're interested, on the Wasa website - they have great little meal ideas using the Wasa crackers. I even did a search on this LCF website on Wasa crackers and got even more clever ideas using the Wasa crackers. One idea is that you can take a wasa cracker and grind it in food processor, mix it with sugar substitute, cinnamon and I think a little melted butter and it makes a wonderful cheesecake crust the lady said. I will post more clever Wasa Crackers ideas as I find them. Went to the store again tonight and saw that the Wasa Light N' Crisp crackers were sold out and the other ones were on the shelf, just wondering if these are the most popular now because they're new.

I am so happy!!! Went to my meeting tonight and lost 3.2 lbs !!!

My total loss now since 10/07 is 60.3 lbs!!! I'm so happy!!! I lost 43 lbs. from 10/07 - 2/07 on my own and then another 17 lbs. since 3/07 with WW. I've figured out now that WW lower carb Core plan works well for me!

you know, from 10/07 until 2/07 was trying out my own eating plans. Mainly lower carb. I did try a few other higher carb plans, but always seem to come back to lower carb eating. I know now, I really love eating protein with each meal and snack and it fills me up, keeps me satisfied and has taken away my cravings for any high carb foods . So, since March, I have been doing a lot of experimenting with what types of foods are best for me to use my points on. I have found out that it's best for me to eat mostly protein, veggies, dairy and a little bit of fruit. I'm having a ton of fun making lower carb recipes for those high carb foods I love!

As I've mentioned before, I think I finally got things figured out and here's what I do:

1)I drink a lot of water everyday
2)I exercise everyday (30 min)
3)I skip breakfast and start eating after noon and I eat 4-6 small meals/snacks a day with adequate protein at each
4)I make sure I am comfortable after I eat and never overstuff myself anymore

I have been just focusing on getting these things accomplished everyday and not worrying about my results on the scale. I knew if I keep consistent that the loss will follow, and so far it's working .

Flower Congratulations on the scale going down. I may be wrong but it seems like when you eat at home with your own food you do much better than when you have food out at someone else's home or when you eat the prepared food from restaurants. I think this is true for all of us.
JFeld You are so right, we have to WORK whatever plan we choose. Thanks again for your support & kind comments.
Carol Ann Bummer on the plan being so high in carbs. I would take the B12 shots and keep to LC.
Rachel Your improvements to the garden will be a source of enjoyment for you.
Missalissa What's the update on the "stinky" car?
Sazzie It must be a joy spending time with DD2.

I'm going to try to get out early to take a walk in the mall & hope that the workers come later in the day. I'm getting stir crazy waiting around for workmen to show up. Proud of myself for not giving in to eating off plan with all the "stress" these past few weeks. I'm still working my LC plan but the scale isn't showing much but I'll deal with it.

Good morning all!

Barb, that is stressful. And then the waiting around sometimes makes it worse (for me and least!) Good for you for not stress eating--that's a very important accomplishment. I agree on the eating out--with my daughter gone for the summer, me trying to eat healthfully, and trying to save money for my home projects, I haven't been eating out and I think it's helped at least maintain my weight.

Flower, CONGRATS on the 60 pound mark! YEAH!! You are doing great. I am pleased that you have found the right combination for your body.

I need to get dressed for work, but I'll post a little bit later. Since I haven't lost any weight for two weeks, my nutrionist is tweaking my plan a little bit I'll share those tweaks when I have some time to type here!

Actually, in today's world, 100-150 carbs per day is considered a low carb diet. Good luck with however you choose to do it!

I just lost a long post, it left whenI went back a page to look at everyone's stats, mygosh you all are an impressive bunch!!! And very encouraging. It looks like everyone is finding what works for them.I sure feel better on the Atkins/IF/PP-I seems to have to watch all 3-Count carbs, stay in my window, get enough protein-if I don't want to stall. Oh yes, and I do have to exercise some. I'm letting yardwork count for that this week.
Hope the smelly ac winds up being less than the major overhaul-that is a good thing about little towns, you know who you are dealing with. I have a good garage I travel to the next town because the workers are honest and courteous. A real find.
Barbara, cheers for not giving in to stress eating. You've come so far. Hope when this all clears you can have the ac you wanted.
The skin graft from my BCC surgery still hurts a lot, but it doesn't keep me awake at night, anyway. My nose is healing pretty well, I am going to have a small dent there, but that is not such a big deal, I can deal with that.
IF I can lose 10 lbs everyone will be noticing that instead of my nose lol.

Wow - you guys have been busy while I was away. Sorry to hear about the various mechanical difficulties - bad a/c (Ragdoll) and dead something in car (Missalissa)!

I have been super busy with work this week, got lots of stuff going right now. Tomorrow I'm going to be in Memphis all day so I don't know how much posting I'll get done over the next few days.

Glad to say that even though I've been struggling, I did manage to keep up my exercise this week and yesterday I finally got back in my eating window. I have to keep my window going on the weekends, for some reason once I get out of the Fast-5 mindframe it's like torture to get myself back in. Monday and Wedneday I did my usual 30 minute walk/30 minute weights, Tuesday was bellydancing, and this morning I did the Yogilates class again. I will probably miss tomorrow's workout since I'll be traveling, but I'm planning on doing the yogilates class again on Saturday and also doing at least a 30 minute walk. Finally got back into my eating window yesterday. Things were so hectic at work that I ended up breaking my fast with pb and crackers and then having a LARGE meal around 5:00. Not healthy food at all - I won't give the details but there was a lot of fat and carbs involved. Hoping to do better today.

Rachel - you look amazing. I've been toying with the idea of ordering a Callanetics dvd, but honestly I have so many dvds right now that I don't use that I can't justify it. Maybe I will at least dig out my t-tapp dvds. I did them a few years ago when I was in between gym memberships and really enjoyed them.

Flower - Congrats on hitting 60lbs!

Barb - fantastic that you didn't stress eat with all that's been going on

Missa - hope your car is fixed soon. 1 day down on PSMF, I can already tell today will be tougher to get through, but I can and will do it!

Sazzie - Thanks!

Katie Good luck with the PSMF Plan. This would be a tough plan for me since it's low fat but I know the plan works. If the going gets too tough after you try it for a week you can always switch to LC & higher fat. I'm sending good "job hunting" vibes your way. Best of luck.
TNLeigh Good going on the exercise. You need to figure out what eating plan will work best for you along with IF. There's many to choose from: Carbohydrate Addict's Diet, Atkins, etc.
Elaine My aunt also has a dent in her nose from the same procedure - it does get better with time.

Thank-you everyone for the Congrats! It's so nice of you!

Barb - You are doing great by staying on plan during all the stress you're going through right now! Yes, you are so right in that I do much better eating almost all my food at home. I love cooking and baking and I know what ingredients I'm putting in it and I love it. I stay away from frozen dinners, canned soups, salad dressing with MSG, fast food and high carb sugary snacks. Staying away from those foods, drinking a lot of water, exercising and eating lower carb is what I need and what works great for me.

Rachel- Can't wait to hear about the nutritionist's tweaks for ya

Katie - I'm also sending you (((( Get a Job Vibes)))), Wishing you the best of luck in finding a job fast

Leigh- good for you for getting back to your window and exercise

Been up since 6. Had to take DH to the bus to catch a plane to California for his Grandmother's funeral on Saturday. I've been wearing the kids out - they were in bed LATE! Will do some shopping and some swimming today.
Had lots of coffee and opened my window with a breakfast burrito - bacon, eggs, cheese, and LC tortilla. So yummy!
I've got chicken thawing for more grilling. I'll have to pick up some avocado's - I wasn't fast enough, the last 2 I had have gone bad.
Have a great day y'all!

I went to Costco again the other day and stocked up on more low carb goodies. I got more eggs, 1/2 gallon heavy cream, whip cream, half n half, 3 lbs. brick cream cheese, big tub sour cream and a 3 lbs. bag of frozen blueberries.

I was taking a look at our grocery budget and realized that I could be saving more money by shopping a bit more wisely. I don't mind shopping at 2-3 stores per week to get the best deals and the cheapest prices. I like to shop at Costco, Aldi's and Walmart for the cheapest prices on food - and then I end up at Jewel for the last few items that the other stores don't carry. Jewel is one of the most expensive grocery stores there are and with me living close to Chicago - the prices are higher here. I also do shop at Whole Foods Market and Fruitful Yield Health Food store a bit for stevia and a few other specialty items.

Anyway, I was realizing that all the low carb goodies I found at Costco are much cheaper than the lower fat versions at other stores. So, I'm going to be eating regular sour cream, cheeses, cream cheese and a little bit of heavy cream as well. So, yes I will be eating more fat and I will be experimenting to see how it goes. I do want to get a lot of healthy fats in everyday from almonds, flaxmeal, walnuts, fish. olive oil, coconut oil and avocado as well.

So, yes I'm just going to buy these regular dairy products, not low fat and see what happens. I know, it's another little tweak, as I'm always changing things around. You can go ahead and laugh at me.

But, it really is true that protein and regular fat foods fill you up and taste great too don't they???

Oh yeah, one last thing if you've read this far.... last night after weigh in we treated my MIL to Old Country Buffet. I knew it wasn't as good for you as eating at home - but I haven't been out to eat in a long time, and every once in a while you just gotta treat yourself right?

I had an awesome low carb dinner there. I had a nice salad, cottage cheese, slice of turkey, green beans, small piece of sirloin steak with garlic and butter mushrooms on the side (YUM!). I then ended it with a piece of sugar free cheesecake. It's a very light cheesecake, almost like a cheesecake mousse with graham cracker crust. Very yummy! Probably not super low in carbs, but I plan to experiment so I can come up with the same type of dessert that's very low in carbs, lol!

anyway, we all had a great dinner and what I have been noticing and truly love is that even if I do eat salty foods at home or from out - as long as they are low carb it doesn't cause the scale to go up. I think a horrible combination for me before was eating high carb, salty foods for me.

it's funny, now anytime I go out to eat - I crave steak and mushrooms, lol!
