Jeez, I just have to post how proud I am of my hubby.

Since I've been helping him get on low carb for his diabetes, he's had one downfall, and that was last week with, of all things, watermelon. I wasn't happy about it, but it's gone, and since then, he's been a real trooper.

Tonight, I didn't feel much like cooking, so hubby went into the kitchen, and started making a meal for himself.

He got fresh zucchini and some organic sausage and fried it in olive oil with about a tbsp. of marinara sauce I had made. Then he added some onion and then topped it all with shredded cheddar cheese.
Although I wasn't hungry, I did taste it and it was delicious.

I feel happy that he's really giving it the ole college try!

Think I'll keep the man!!

Little Before and After, so far

Here are a couple of before and after pictures. The first two, at the zoo, are on Mother's Day, me at about 150. The second one is today, same outfit, me at 135+Callanetics. Amazing what a difference 12-15 pounds can make!! True, I'm not squished over in the last picture, but I also don't have a muffin top. **big smile**

Yeah - that's what I was eating. I had cheese, a hot dog, and coleslaw, then I finished up with another 1/2 a chicken boob w/ 1/2 an avocado, a tomato, olives, and sour cream. I brought two hot dogs and two string cheeses to the pool just in case. I do feel better. Now I'm just tired from the swimming. And the walking to and from the pool. We had a good time. DD did a lot of jumping in the pool and cannonballs. DS was super-energetic after his nap and soon was barreling around the pool w/o the noodles - just his floatie. So amazing. DH even walked part of the way to meet us.
We're going again in the morning..
I learned a lesson about my heat tolerance today. Will take greater care in the future.

Rachel - Those pictures are great. You can see a big difference in your after picture - you look so nice. But then again, you look great in all your pictures!
I'm so happy for you that the last person ended up showing up and buying your furniture!

Sazzie - That's great that your dh is doing so well with low carb! His little dinner combo sounded really tasty! Also, at least his downfall was watermelon and not potato chips, lol.

Melissa - sounds like you're feeling better and that's good! Yeah, it was probably the heat that got ya. I have had days where I've been outside all day and just do not feel right. I think it might be a combination of dehydration with too much heat all at once. My dh eats whatever I cook and therefore I have been making low carb dishes and he doesn't even know it. Even low carb desserts! Maybe you could try this with your DH?

Barb - Sorry to hear the dreamfields pasta & drinks caused the scale to go up for ya. I think everyday is an experiment with what we can and cannot eat. I was just looking back at journals when I started low carb in Oct. 07 and I was just looking at how many carbs, cals, fat and protein I was eating daily on average. I love looking back at old notes to see what caused me to have the best weight loss each day.

Rachel & Sazzie - Just wanted to Thank both of you ladies and share this with you. With all the talk about getting veggies cut up for the week and how you both recently bought the chopper, I became very interested myself. I knew eventually I would find the chopper at Walgreens or Walmart or Target, but I was so excited to get it. I was very happy to see that at one of the grocery stores I go to (Jewel) they had it there!!! So, I bought the chopper and chopped up all my green pepper, onion and even a little avocado!!! I also used the chopper to chop up 2 hard boiled eggs for egg salad!!! I really love it! Like Rachel had said, it's so great that it dices the veggies up so nice, just like at a salad bar! I had all my veggies chopped within 2 minutes! It was great! I've been making a lot of omelets lately and veggie soup for my dh. This chopper will be very nice for all the veggie soup I make for him!!!

with the hb eggs - it diced them up so very nice and made the egg salad so quick and easy!

I know it's just a chopper, but so exciting because it's so very easy and will save a lot of time in the kitchen!!!

I get so happy when I get new little kitchen gadgets and cookbooks

Just love kitchen gadgets! Doesn't the chopper or any other kitchen gadget, for that matter, make you want to get in the kitchen to experiment?

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. It is nice to seeing my body really changing this time around. Not just the scale going down but I am finally getting the shape that I want. 7 hours of Callanetics completed!

Flower, I know how you feel about the chopper! I loved it when I realized I could have a "salad bar at home!" LOL. Or when I could have veggies ready to toss into a stir fry or in a sandwich at anytime. I really DO like veggies...it's the prep work involved with them that has always been my nemesis in the past. I mean, I hate to say it, but in the past, I've bought veggies and kind of forgotten about them in the veggie drawer in the fridge. But now that they are all ready to go...well, it's easy to use them.

I am getting ready for work...will post more indies a bit later!

I don't like 'sneaking' w/ the kids or DH.. I do tell them when something is LC - and if I'm eating it, they certainly know. So far, everything I've made LC they've loved. I'm trying to transition to more whole foods for them. Instead of bagels & cream cheese - I want to give DH fillings for LC breakfast burritos for breakfast. Make crustless quiche in individual containers so it's eatable in 30 seconds of nuking. He loves the sugar-free and no-sugar-added ice creams out there, and I make a mean cheesecake that the whole family loves.
I know that if he committed to LC 100% he would see some results on the scale and in how he feels. I'm working on it.

Oh, definitely. The changes have been slower for them. The more I experiment and find LC substitutions, the better their eating will be. I'm also trying not to pressure anyone to do 100% with me. If he wants to do that, the desire and motivation will have to come from him.
We've all been on this journey since I was pregnant w/ DD and diagnosed w/ gestational diabetes. It's been nearly 9 years. I've been up and down, on plan and off.. I've learned so much. Still have so much to learn.

1st step for me is to send DH back to the doctor for new blood tests. Last ones were scary enough, but that was ~2 years ago. At the time, he was told he was pre-diabetic, had high BP, CHO, and that C-Reactive Protein. He's an engineer. It's going to take evidence of the scientific variety to convince him that LC is healthier.
If nothing else, having my 3-month results may help convince him.. More motivation to me to do this just that well.

Rachel WTG, you look fabulous!

Melissa F slow and steady wins the race. I'm sure your 3 month results will be a great motivation to you and your husband. KUTGW

As for me, not so good day yesterday. I opened my eating window really early (8 AM) and it basically set me off on an all day eating binge. I do so much better if I don't eat until lunch time. I have no problem staying within a window that goes from 12-5 or 1-6, but the early window is definitely not for me. Oh well, today is another day. Slept in this morning because I have belly dancing class tonight and that will be my daily exercise. Hoping to keep my window closed until 1 or 2 this afternoon. I had a 12 hour window yesterday! Ate from 8 AM until 8 PM.

Has he read Gary Taubes 'Good Calories, Bad Calories'? Now, there is a book that may interest him.

The book is replete with scientific studies!

Today's motivation

One small step at a time. ~Anon

You will reach your goal for sure if you break a complicated task into small actionable steps. Do just one step at a time. To get started, choose something you know you can do easily. That can get the ball rolling for getting more done. These small steps will get you where you need to go.

Good morning everyone-still sorting out this food stuff. Interesting day Sunday, ds2 had cooked some good healthy food-green salad and frozen raspberries and strawberries in whipped cream-for a family gathering. Others called and said they would be late. I ate some protein (steak)to open my window about 1 pm. Ate the salad and fruit about 6 before my window closed. Others showed up about 8; long story.
Anyhow, just eating that salad and fruit alone with no protein and fat, I really was hungry the rest of the evening, and the next morning couldn't wait to open my window-still hungry. And all day yesterday. Kept the window longer like 8 hours actually.
This morning, things seem normal, and I am sure I won't have any trouble leaving my window closed til noon.
The thing is, just that couple cups of fruit, really seemed to awaken my hunger and it lasted 36 hours, and that should be pretty low glycemic stuff. I swear it was just because I ate it without any protein. Guess I better read Eades book again, and pay more attention to what goes down the chute at the same time.
Anyhow, I really think this IF theory is a good one, it seems to keep the wolf from howling when I stick with it faithfully. Feels good to be back with it today.

Hey everyone

I'm quite new to this whole forum and have been looking around all over the place...have been hanging out in the PMSF thread a bit...but today came across this and am very very interested in this WOE in the long run...

Just wondering are there any books on this WOE? Also can I combine this with a LC diet?

Thanks in advance and glad to see you all doing well
