This vinegar sounds awesome. Maybe I can find it at whole foods?

I'll bet it will be.....also look in the healthy sections or in the vinegar section. I found Braggs in the most unusal place of all time...it was a discount store and I paid under $15 a gallon...needless to say, I bought quite a few, they don't ever go bad!! I got the Braggs book and it's amazing what you can use this stuff for....but I only drink it, it spices up my drink....yummers, now I can't drink anything sweet, without the vinegar in it...

I also got his, spray on amino acid stuff...it's suppose to take the place of soy sauce...it does have a good flavor, but boy is it salty tasting, but I'm not sure if it has salt in it?

Need some direction

Hi all. I used to do this diet about 8 years ago and did really well on it, the weight started coming off right away. I have now picked it up again, starting almost 3 weeks ago and feel like I haven't lost a thing. I haven't weighed consistently on the scale but I usually judge by how tight my clothes are and what I can and can't fit into. I've been doing 2 CMs and a RM at dinner time. I've been pretty good and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any tips? I think I'm going to go re-read the book. Does anyone know if there's a new version I need to know about? Thanks a lot!!

Tweety Darling Welcome and we are so glad to have you with us.

How about you post your typical menu for the day and I will see, if I can help you.

Are you eating any artificial sweeteners during the day other than your reward meal???

Anyway, post and we will see what is going on...

Hi Tweety! Welcome! We really need to see what you're eating to see if there's anything we can suggest. It's a bummer that you haven't lost anything yet, but HOLD ON!!! Maybe nothing is wrong at all. Stay strong and stay on track, don't undo all the good work you've done the past three weeks!

Uh-oh....are artificial sweetners bad? hehe. I do drink 1-2 diet cokes a day along with 1-2 crystal lights. Sometimes I'll put splenda in a cup of coffee or tea. In the morning I've been eating 2 microwave turkey sausages or sometimes a hard boiled egg. Lunch I stick with salads (I might need to watch the dressings though because I do a lot of restaurant eating at lunch and I don't know the carb values in their dressings). RM is a free-for all, which can get a little crazy. I think in writing this I am starting to see some of my potential problems....

Hi ladies!

Angela - your posts are very inspiring and you have motivated me to be more aware of what I eat and the products I use. I am looking into natural toothpastes and deodorants now.

Cindy/Angela - I have searched high and low for Braggs in Ontario, but I can't find it anywhere so I am ordering it online tonight. It sounds like it has some super health benefits. Not sure what I would do with coconut oil. Any tips/suggestions?

Tweety - I drink a Diet Pepsi everyday and I use Splenda and it never stalled me (I am in maintenance now). But I am omitting those from my diet now just because they are chemicals and kinda gross if you really think about it!

Patty - Angela is right! You are a sexy Mama Cougar now!

My RM for tonight is Toppers Pizza. DH gets the ten topper and it's soooo good but soooo greasy! I am re-vamping my diet after the long weekend (we have a holiday on Monday in Canada) and it will start to look a LOT healthier. It just sort of dawned on me that yes, thanks to CAD I am slim, but I am not necessarily healthy. I will be adding more organic and natural foods to my RM's. I will be following CAD as always, but my RM's will be less junky and more whole! I will still have my treats though, but I will be trying some of the organic products to see how those taste. Wish me luck! I love that I have the option of eating whatever I want, so the days that I want a junky meal, I can still have one!

Have a great day everyone and stay on plan! It's sooooooo worth it!

Pam

Tweety.

I was stalled until I cut out the artifical sweeteners. Once I did, I started losing. I also noticed that I was less hungry. The Hellers say that for some people, artifical sweeteners can make your body think that you have had sugar and you release insulin. Do you have any of the books?

Hang in there. This really does work and it is very liberating to know that there is nothing you can't have if you eat it during your RM (from what I have read some people have to "balance" more than others during the RM but you can still balance and eat what you want...). Just knowing that I can have something that I want during an RM really helps me with that desparate deprivation feeling of not being able to have what I want. I also notice that when the RM rolls around I don't always want what I thought I wanted!

Question for you coconut oil ladies. What are the benefits of CO? Is there a book that you have read?

In the original CAD book (just took it back to the library) the sample meals, etc often have a diet soda listed as an option. I think the artificial sweeteners (diet drinks) are a personal option--the plan says they are okay except for those people that don't tolerate them. I had a previous post that even listed the page numbers for them. I may go back and find it and do a quote to bring it forward.

Tweety I could not lose, as long as, I used the artificial sweeteners, but I could eat all the sugar I wanted and still lost weight. Go figure that one out. I drank lots of Diet Cokes when I was on Atkins and I think that is why I quit losing on it. Try to give up your artificial sweeteners for right now, and see what happens. I eat the salad dressings at the buffets and they haven't stalled me, but everyone is different...but also when I eat salad at the buffets, it is always my RM Meal. Good luck...

I actually got the search mode to work. This is what the CAD book says.

Kate Their is many benefits of using Coconut Oil and one of them is it gives you ENERGY... My goodness, my ENERGY has doubled since I started taking it. It keeps your skin moist, it burns fat and a bunch of other things. Go on the internet and look up benefits of Coconut Oil and read up on it...I started taking it because my skin is so dry...

iakaren, in my book, it says to avoid artificial sweeteners except at RM Meal...

In my lifespan book written in 1998 it states:

The sweetness of sugar substitues can falsely signal your body that a sweet "meal" is coming and excess insulin may be released so as to handle the expected onslaught of heigh-calorie foods. When no carbohydrates are forthcoming, the high levels of insulin that remain can easily lead to increases in cravings, weight gain, and in health-related risks.

Kate, there's a thread in the "Main Lobby" area right now that extolls the virtues of the humble coconut oil. Very enlightening! I love love love coconut oil! I eat it, cook with it, use it as a moisture lotion, kills the itch in mosquito bites, heals up the skin from sunburn (and even helps prevent sunburn) It does so so so much. Also, go to the Weston Price website and read up on it there- fantastic information! They're not selling anything, so they are more trustworthy.

Pam, I've been making my own toothpaste for years. (I HATE FLUORIDE! It pisses me off.) My gums have actually improved over the years, much to the surprise of my dental hygenist. I make a little mix of baking soda, Dr. Bronner's peppermint liquid soap, peppermint oil and organic cold pressed virgin sesame oil. It tastes like mint toothpaste and foams up really nice when you brush. My teeth are nice and smooth and my gums love me again. I just pastry-bag it into a little upside down squeeze bottle I bought at The Container Store in their travel section. My husband can brush his teeth with any toothpaste he wants, but he likes mine best.

As for deodorant, I just use plain coconut oil! Just a little tiny bit rubbed in the pits. That works for most of the year, especially the colder months. When it's super hot and I need to be somewhere where accidental stink is NOT an option, I use Tom's of Maine. I've also learned over the years that when my menu is squeaky clean, my pits NEVER stink. If I eat grains or milk, they get a little rank by the end of the day. (Is this TMI?) I never worry about sweat, your pits need to sweat. The aluminum and chemicals in anti-perspirant are gross, and they want us to smear that into our pits and delicate lymph nodes? Crazy.

Good luck finding the Braggs! All apple cider vinegars are NOT created equal. Braggs is the best!

That is the way we have always felt about it. They don't say too much about the study done showing relevance between ladies who shave, use deodorant and breast cancer incidence............

Never thought of coconut oil for that. Thanks.

each book must have some variations in it. The one at my library is probably the original CAD book. I am sure they have tweaked stuff by now, with more work and people to deal with. I have been limiting my artificial sweeteners to CM and RMs. Each of us has to find what works in our lifestyles.

I read CAD and CALP, and decided to just stick with CAD book. Makes 3rd time I have read it, so hopefully can retain part of it.......

Tweety, also balance your RMs. You'd be AMAZED how this one simple thing can make a world of difference. No more Crazy-Free-For-All RMs! You may also be over doing the calories. I know no one wants to hear that, but it's true. Find your BMR and aim for that many calories a day. Are you exercising? Get out there and take a walk... those pounds will drop!

Hmmm....CO for armpits....how is this on the clothing, does it leave anything thats hard to get out? I would love to try this one!! Years ago I tried the rock thing, I used it for about 3 years, then it started giving me rashes, so I quit. Anything natural is great...I'm trying the toothpaste one!!

Had my lunch...success again, lots of chicken meat and only one piece of cake, and one ice cream bar. My 1/2 portion of a bake potato was loaded!!! Good meal. I'm full, but not stuffed!!
I'll be ready for those six month post op pictures!!! I still have two months to go.

On the arttificial sweetners, I don't know if they made me crave or stall, I slowly weaned myself off them just because I wanted to lose and didn't want to take the chance of me not losing, so I got down to one at my CM and one at my RM, then to one a day, then none....after a month of no pop, I tried one and....yuk!!! It did not taste the same,....but just the look of a pop can made me want one, so it was all habit. I did not go back to them and today, none of it even temps me!!!
Now girls, you have to know that I was one big pop drinker my whole life!!! I started out on Tab and drank no water, I did this for years, so, yup, I was hooked on it....sad but true.

I say, try whatever you want, if it stalls or makes you crave, then have it at the RM only or none at all. Everyone is different, and this plan has to be livable so you'll stay on it!! Thats why I eat the way I do, so I can stay on plan!!

Angela I remember reading about your toothpaste recipe awhile ago - is the peppermint oil that you use just the plain peppermint essential oil? Can you give me some proportions of how much of what to use please? I'm almost out of Tom's and will give this a try. Also willing to give the coconut oil "deoderant" a shot - - do you have any problems with it sticking or staining clothes or does it absorb in fully? Maybe I'll give that a shot over the weekend and see how it does.

I had a grilled chicken burrito for my RM today - an impromptu lunch with friends from work - followed it up with 2 pieces of dark chocolate and all is well. I had a moment afterwards of "oh I wanted to have some fruit today" - and then realized I can just have it tomorrow. The CAD mindset is setting back in

Hey Cindy-- You only use a little tiny bit and let is soak in for a moment. I overdid it once and oiled the pit of my shirt... but it washed right out with a little Shout. If you use just a bit, it doesn't bother your clothing at all.
