Thanks for all the comforting words. I am going to stay the heck away from my scale.
I just had my reward meal. Chicken. Spinach. Shirataki noodles and...broccolli. yep. quite a feast but if this is what it takes to get me down to an acceptable weight, I guess this is what it takes. and *then* i can add in some treats. |

Hello girls....
I am back to CAD after a hiatus with Atkins....I crashed and burned on it I did well on it for awhile, then messed up big time. Gained some of the weight back that I lost....totally not Atkins fault, guess it is too strict a plan for me. I was hoping to see fast weight loss, I guess that's why I switched to Atkins. Well, guess fast doesn't always win the race so I'm almost back to the starting line here. I will have to take slow and steady. I feel foolish for going off CAD, I was just getting impatient with the slower weight loss. I was losing on it, I just got greedy So I decided I will go back to CAD and stick to it for longer than, oh say 2 seconds ![]() My new friend Shelagh invited me back here, hope it's okay for me to join you again! Hi Shelagh Her and I are on a no-weigh challenge til Christmas together. So far, so good!Well now I am off to church, then swimming for the afternoon so I will check back in later tonight! Have a great day everyone! |

Hello everyone, glad I found this thread. I bought CAD many years ago and tried it briefly, but failed badly
Since then I've tried Atkins twice, and in both cases lost significant weight but eventually failed. It was just too limited. I always liked the thought of CAD (I admit, mostly because of the reward meal) but I am kind of afraid of giving it a go again. I am on Atkins once again in the middle of induction, but long term I wonder if CAD (or CALP, never checked that out) would work better for me. Any opinions on the subject? It seems like there are a lot of former Atkins people here, so I'd love to hear some thoughts. I have no idea where my copy of the book has gone, so I'll have to whistle up another one before I make a definite decision. Thanks, Paul

Hi Everyone! Another family picnic down and I stayed on plan the whole time! I've got the nieces and nephews today (they spent the night) so we'll be playing in the pool and maybe watching a movie or two.
I don't have time to read back to catch up but I hope you are all doing great! The summer is going so fast and I don't have a lot of computer time to stay caught up but I do at least read when I have a few minutes. Here's a picture from yesterday's family fun! ![]()

Hi all, welcome back, Andrea!
Welcome, Paul! Absolutely re-read the book and give CAD a try... my advice is to follow the book AS WRITTEN for at least a month to see how it fits your lifestyle and give it a real chance to work for you. Most of the ladies here are at a point in their CAD journey that they have tweaked it to make it better for themselves individually (one meal a day, an unbalanced RM, etc.) These methods are not wrong, but they are not right for everyone. So, I recommend following the written CAD schedule at first to get a good feel for those balanced meals. You won't need luck because it's a very pleasant, uncomplicated, flexible, variable way to eat. It's not easy, because restructuring your lifestyle for the better never is, but you can do it--- and you're not alone! And now for myself: 263 this morning. That is SIX POUNDS down this week alone by simply eating clean on a CAD schedule, capping my calories in the 1800's and walking the dog twice a day. I think I've really hit on the right combination for me!

Welcome back, Andrea! I had a very similar experience Atkins ---> CAD.
Sweet picture, Linda. Well, folks...I've only lost four ounces in four days. Sigh! I need a And probably a kick in the butt. I know CAD is slow. But it's steady. I proved that to myself last time.I've been super busy with self-imposed projects. I cleaned out my garage...cleaned out and reorganized my closet...cleaned out the wicker bins in my entryway...have been planting in my garden. Very, very active over here. Does anyone have any tips on improving a child's diet? My children are fine weight-wise, but the middle one is autistic and only wants to eat junk. I can't get him to eat fruit...most meats...etc. The littlest one was great on eating...but it starting to model the little one. Any ideas? I hate to flat-out refuse them food until they're hungry enough to eat the "good" food...I know what that leads to...hording food, sneaking it, etc. Any good recipes which are tasty for kids but incorporate really healthy food?

Thanks, Mel! I'm pretty impressed with myself! A 6 pound loss is a giant pay-off for the strict attention I'm giving my menu. (and my username is an old college nickname 20 years ago when I really was a glamazon! Skinny, high heels, lipstick, hairspray. Look out!)
Also, tasty kids food. Tough one!! I have a very picky eater, but luckily he will eat certain fruits and veggies, so he gets those every day along with the PB&J, salami and chicken nuggets. (the PBJ has real whole wheat bread with no weird ingredients, a smear of coconut oil under the natural peanut butter, and organic fruit spread insead of jam; the salami is handmade from the German deli with no chemicals in it, and the chicken nuggets are the least offensive I could find.) I also make fruit-only popcicles and he thinks he is having a treat, even though it's just pureed fresh strawberry, banana, pineapple and nothing else. I have also bought him a Sigg bottle that can't be seen through, and I make him fresh juices or smoothies he can't see... I always slip spinach and spirulina in there and he has no idea because he just tastes the fruit. Trader Joe's makes a decent mini pizza just the right size for him, comes in a stack of 4, I pick off the pepperoni and replace it with the salami. We also have a chart on the wall that if he tries 7 new foods he gets to go to OMSI, a science museum he LOVES. It's motivation enough (most times!) to get him to try something new, like an orange or a slice of bell pepper or a bite of steak. He'll now eat watermelon because he tried it and decided he liked it. (of course!) Getting him to just TRY is like pulling teeth. I also make him chocolate milk using organic cocoa powder, stevia and whole milk... he thinks it's awesome. I also sweeten with agave or honey for him, he rarely gets real sugar but he doesn't know that. It's tough feeding a kid, especially an autistic one. I know one autistic child who was greatly improved by a change in diet alone, especially with the addition of fish oils, coconut oil and whole foods. They also removed every trace of soy and any preservatives, nitrates, artificial colors and flavors from her menu. That works on EVERY KID! You have to get your child away from the junk, but that's a rough gig. You are the mom, you can do it. What kind of junk is he eating? Maybe you can find a healthier alternative and make the switch (like the trader joe's natural pizzas instead of a gross totinos.) |

Hi cad'ers!!!! to the two new kids on the block!! I went from Atkins (30years) to cad, two years ago, and I love...love...love cad!!! I am almost to goal, yes it took me two years to figure it out and just work the plan, and let the plan work!!! In my first year, I went on vacation for 2 weeks and came home off the plan, and I couldn't get back on for 17 weeks, I gained almost all of my weight back in those 17 weeks, but when I got back on, I stay on no matter what the situation...it just made me more determined not to let anybody talk me into eating anything I didn't want. And I made sure I got my desert everyday!! If I go too low carb, then I start craving it and end up going off plan...those cravings are so hard to beat, and with my desert everyday, I know that it's only 24 hours until I can have whatever it was that I was craving for!! Join in on the fun here, guys....this plan is perfect for us!!!![]() They are having beef stew today. And I talked them into making cornbread...but I have to go buy some, since they were out...no problem!! So I'm heading to the store, I'll come back and post lunch later.

Thank you, Glamazon. Fruit popsicles, THAT'S GENIUS! I'm going to get a popsicle-maker!
The littlest one will eat my homemade applesauce. I just made some more last night from our apples (we have an apple tree). I'm going to see if my middle guy will start eating that if I put a little on his plate each night. Thank you so much for all the help. And...hi, Cindy! (waving) |

Back at ya, Mel....Angela...wow, 6 pounds is great!! I like your new plan, I too think it'll work for you! You always was better at balancing than I was...or, am!! But these past couple of days, I've done real good and it's paying off in the scale department. I maintained for 4 months with cad, I only went up 4 pounds or so and bounced around those 4 pounds the whole time. But I'm ready to get going again! ![]() I'm back from the store, and there's also a birthday girl here, so now there's cake!! So here's what I got: Beef stew, small salad, cornbread, cake, ice cream, drink/braggs. They may not put the salad bar out, so that one is iffy....thats o.k., I don't eat too much salad anyway...got burned out on it when I was doing Atkins. I did my bike last night, went slow for an hour, it felt o.k., so I may start doing it again each night. I'll let my body tell me what to do. If it hurts, I'll stop. Hello,
Welcome to everyone that will be joining us! On our way to lunch with my MIL, we stopped at the hospital so I could get my blood tests done at the Lab. I was really surprised to get my results by email and everything is normal except my HDL is under by 2 mg/dL and my LDL is over by 1mg/dL. I am very pleased and will not complain because they are so close to normal. Yesterdays plan for the Outback Restaurant was changed to the Black Angus. When we arrived at the Outback, we discovered that it did not open until 3pm. Our visit was pleasant but it did not seem very long. Our visit with my folks and grandma went well until I got a text message from DS18 saying he needed to go back to the emergency room. Since I was two hours away, I contacted DD23 because DD19 was on her way over there. Once DD19 arrived, I asked her to go get her brother and take him to the emergency room since he was unable to take himself. Both of the girls escorted him to the hospital and stayed there until I arrived. By the time I made it to the hospital, he was being seen for the second time. Apparently the antibiotics that he was on last week did not do the trick. DS had an abscess on his tonsils that needed to be drained. DS was unable to eat or drink anything at all yesterday so the doctor put him on two bottles of IV fluids with some morphine and antibiotics. I am not crazy about dining out and I had to do it twice yesterday. Lunch was okay but I prefer Outback over Black Angus. While DS was getting his fluids, DH and I went to a new Teriyaki restaurant and had dinner. DS is doing a bit better today and has been following the doctors orders and taking it easy. My menu for yesterday included: CM: 1 large black coffee from McDonalds CM: Sirloin steak and mixed veggies RM: Salad w/dressing, veggie stir fry w/beef teriyaki, bean sprouts, cabbage, carrots, purple cabbage & broccoli Since I was fasting before my blood test I did not take my chromium at my normal time so I skipped it entirely yesterday. I did drink plenty of water though. |

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, my band got to back Melissa Lawson, one of the finalists of Nashville Star this past week for a "Hometown Concert". There were about a thousand people there and it was very exciting. It came off very well and it was great to work with Melissa again. Here's a photo of my family with her after the concert.
![]() DH,DD20,Melissa,Me,DD24 This show and a lot of interviews and the rehearsal were taped for the TV show and will be edited into about a 10 minute segment on Melissa on the show tomorrow (Monday, July 28) night on NBC. This show will determine the WINNER and I can truly tell you that Melissa is absolutely worthy to win this. Please, if you happen to be around that evening, vote for Melissa. You call a toll-free 866 number that they give you for each contestant and you can vote up to ten times per telephone. Thanks so much! We have no idea if the band will mostly end up on the editing room floor, but I think surely you'll at least hear us. My DH is at the piano, and my DD20 and I sang harmony. Here's a link to a local news story done that night where you catch a couple of glimpses of me in the black/white top and my DD20. Also, you'll see Melissa talking to my DH (in the black shirt). It goes by fast, but I think it's cool. Sorry about the Honda commercial at the beginning, but it's short: Hundreds Attend Concert Featuring Local 'Nashville Star' - Videos - KXAS After seeing that pic, I decided to get back on CALP AGAIN yesterday and so far, so good. I keep telling myself that I can't let a gallon of sweet-n-low sweetened iced tea stand between me and my goals. LOL! It's so hard for me to stick with just water all day, but I can do it.

Thanks Everyone! We love the pool and deck! We do a lot of family get togethers and will do even more now that everything is almost done. We are moving our firepit closer to the deck area instead of having it way on the east side of the yard. It won't be real close but in a better spot than it is now. After we get that done, we can do some campfires more often!
Teri, hope your son recovers quickly! Laurie, love the picture! It must be exciting to work with Melissa! I will try to remember to record the show so I can see how it goes! Cindy, I went back and saw your pics! You are doing just fantatastic!!!! I'm off to figure out what to make for dinner. Lots of leftovers to put out, I think! |

I was 180.5 that week before. The first week on CAD, I stayed at 180.5. Today finished up my 2nd week on CAD, and down 1.75 lbs. Not exactly enough to do back flips, but face it, I am too old to do back flips, anyway...... So tonight, I had 2 huge glasses of milk with my supper, and it tasted great. I even resisted the oreo cookies, although I did have some chocolate ice cream.....we had our soft-serve machine plugged in again......... With ATkins, the milk wasn't easy on plan, and I still think milk is good for me. This way, I can have that. Hope you stick with it long enough to give it a chance. We can be the newbies, that ask all those questions of these experienced CAD-ers.
