Ladies I am down another .2lbs. today. I am starting to lose slower but that is OK...
I don't know what I am going to do while Marvin and Margaret are here next week. I may have to eat CM's to survive. You know it is funny. Every time I start doing 1 meal a day, I have company. Go figure... |

Artificial sweeteners?
Good morning, ladies.
I have some questions about artifical sweeteners. I have the CAD book - not CALP. I like to use artificial sweeteners in my tea. I am not having cravings but am concerned that it may slow weight loss. Any thoughts? What do the Hellers say about artificial sweeteners besides triggering cravings? Thanks! Kate |

![]() The artificial sweeteners trick your body into thinking that it is eating something sweet, so there fore it causes a insulin release. ![]() If you are slow at losing, I would suggest that you not use them only in your RM Meal. I don't use any artificial sweeteners and I have dropped 4.2 lbs. in a week. ![]()

Hi there - quick post today as I am flying through!
LauraAnn - I didn't jump into it right away. When I first started CAD I was eating 1-2 CM's and an RM but naturally my body stopped being hungry for my CM's and I started dropping them. It was so easy for me as I literally wasn't hungry, so I started eating just my RM. I do that now and some days if I am hungry, I will eat a CM but that rarely happens. Hope this helps! Kate - I use Splenda, can't drink my coffee or tea without it. I don't think they recommend sweeteners for many reasons, but if you use them and are still losing, I would continue to use them. Tink - yay! KUTGW! Katnip - when I first started CAD years ago, my initial loss was very slow. I only needed to lose 15 pounds though. Patty - congrats on the loss! I have an eating dilemma too, we are going to Niagara Falls with friends next weekend and I don't know if I will be able to follow my eating plan. I think I will try to follow CAD when I can and I won't stress on the days I can't! |

Pam, I really don't know what to do. I may eat regular while they are here and then just get back on it, as soon as, they leave. They will be here 4 or 5 days.

Thanks Patty. I had that big whoosh last week (down 6 pounds) but then went up 3 pounds. I have been holding steady at 175 (the 3 pound loss) and I am surprised/frustrated because I have eating on plan exactly. At least, I thought I was followint it to a "tee." I was scratching my head this morning and wondering if there was anything I could be doing wrong? The only thing that came to mind is the artifical sweetener I drink in my hot tea all day long while at work...
I am not complaining about a 3 pound loss! I just want it to all fall off at once! Just kidding. Seriously though, I don't want to do anything that will prevent me from losing....Kate |

Now for your question....I did jump into my one meal a day and for the first day...I ate my meal at lunchtime around 11:30-12 noon, and did great the whole day, but around 6pm I started to feel sick, like my blood sugars were low or something, so I ate some protein and it didn't help at all, and so after about an hour or so I started to feel better and then it went away. So the next day I did one meal again and the same thing happened, at 6pm I felt sick again, not real bad this time and so I just layed down and it went away on it's own after an hour, and then I never had that happen again. So this is just what happened to me though, it may not happen to you, but if it does, you'll know it just not you, I think the body has to get adjusted to the one meals.....it's been smooth sailing ever since then!! Welcome to cad, hun, I know you'll get lots of support from the girls and I KNOW you will love the plan, whichever one you choose....cad/calp ROCKS!! ![]()

Kate, if your not losing, then I would dump the sugar free stuff for a week and see if it helps. The Hellers say if your not losing to start backing off some things like the cm's, they may be too much food for you. I couldn't lose very good when I was eating two meals a day...one cm and one RM, I had to eat smaller portions at the cm or just not eat it at all some days, other days you may eat it and still lose. But try getting rid of the sugar free stuff first, I beleive it's spiking your insuln all day and causing you to stall.
Hope that does the trick for you, hun, and if not, then start with the cm's, but never mess with the RM, it's what makes this plan so great!! ![]() |

Ha Guys. I am jumping into adding carbs Now. I just sent my friend to get me cherry pie and ice cream and I am going to eat it all!!! I am so tired of atkins like woe. I do cad timing but have been too low carb sooooooo now I am going back to my one meal a day and today it will be cherry pie. A planned meal and one I need real bad!!!
Cindy I remember that you tried atkins and didnt like it well I am going to do this cad this time. I keep trying but I slip into almost no carb and then I get sick so I think this is better than cheating it is like a planned cheat but not really a cheat. Sorry guys, please forgive me but I am driving myself crazy with this.. I dont know how people can live on real low carb. I want to be a true cadder for the rest of my life but ..I just..........oh well I am starting Now,,,, RANT over......Shelagh |

Patty - I think as long as we both don't take the days we are off-plan as an opportunity for a feeding frenzy we will both be ok. I plan on trying to stick to plan, but we are guests at their house, so I will eat according to what I am served. It's only 2 days as well. So let's do our best and promise to get back on plan as soon as we can!

I'm back - enjoying my cup of coffee -funny how it's become a luxury for me now - a treat I really look forward to. For some reason it works for me to have it mid-morning - no problem with getting to sleep, I don't seem to crave more later and I don't have the blood sugar crashes I used to have from drinking it first thing in the morning. So mmm, I get to have my coffee. And most importantly, I haven't been headachey at all from it - and with my migraines, that's huge for me!
I just spent over an hour writing what I thought would be a post to you all here - reflecting on my weight loss, but it got so long that I didn't feel right putting it here in case everyone wasn't interested in my ramblings. I've started a separate thread for anyone who'd like to take a look and maybe post their own - CAD - a side thread - reflections on my weight loss journey It was good for me to think about how I got here and how I feel now at this point. Now, onto my personals to all my CAD friends! -Amy

Tink...yea!!!! You are doing it!!!! Dosen't it feel great!!
![]() Patty, your doing great too!! If it was me with my company.....you know what I would do....I would do cm's during the day and then eat what everybody was eating at dinner for your RM. I know your doing one meals now, but if you feel you have to eat with them, then make it a cm, that way your still sticking to plan, and when they leave go back to your regular plan. I know you can make it work and you'll feel so much happier with yourself, cause you stuck to plan!! I know how upsetting it can feel when we go off plan...it's depressing, huh?! Good luck Patty!! Oh and the dry skin thing...try the coconut oil in pill form, that way your healing from the inside out. I started taking them about two months ago and I can feel the difference, my hair is not so dry and I need no lotions...try it. Have a good day, hun!! Happy Birthday....Shelagh!!!! May this be your year!!!!!![]() I'm going to go visit my daughter and her in-law family, they are camping in westport this week-end.....so I'm going to go to one of the sea food resturants first, then go visit them. I come first.... I'm hungry this morning, cause I was worked to death yesterday...oh, man what a hard day!! Lots of accidents happing, my ventilator got a good work out!!![]() I think I'm going to start doing my bike again, I have seen no improvments since I stopped! So I may as well do it. I'll come back later girls, tonight....have a good day, everyone!!! |

Now your talking!!!! Thats what I did and still do today!!! You'll feel like you have blown it, but you didn't, so don't let the carbs make you feel that way. After your done with your meal, just stick with it and have whatever you want in that meal, hun!! If you deprive yourself, then you'll end up going off plan, just like when I did Atkins, I would blow it for a day each week!! Good luck and have fun with this plan!!![]() Last edited by coxbowen : 07-19-2008 at 12:54 PM. |

Pam, thank you for your wonderful, encouraging words about the children you know who have autism. Colin is technically high-functioning because his life skills are right up there (self-dressing, looking to cross the street, touching something gently to see if it's hot before eating it, washing himself & brushing his teeth, etc.) and because his academics are appropriate for his age. His language pulls his "average" way down,
but he is very affectionate and "with us" 99% of the time. However, especially you, as a professional, would know after five minutes with him that he's autistic. He's beautiful and a good boy.Monica, thank you for your touching story, which had me laughing! Colin is 100% "number one" potty trained but not "number two". But for now we'll sure take it. He only trained at Christmastime; he was four and a half. He too will TOTALLY attach himself to someone he sees as "understanding" him in some way (your friend's son saw your husband deeply absorbed in something technical and he was totally able to relate). Autistic kids want so much for somebody, anybody to understand them. (((Patty))) Thank you for your prayers, darling. And...NICE LOSS!!! A loss already? Awesome! Your menus look delicious. Terri, I love so much that you and your DD are so close. Pamela, count those 100 grams. LOL. I always do. Happy birthday, GoodToLaff!!!! (((Laurie))) Been there. So many times. Please stick around... Good morning to everybody else! It's 12:20 here. I'm busy cooking a sweet potato pie for my husband, because he requested it. I'll be cooking filling out of the other sweet potato and freezing the filling for pie again the next time. Still crampy, but more energy today...TOM is due in two more days. My weight is the same as yesterday. I planted Black Eyed Susans yesterday. They look pretty.Everybody have a good day! Last edited by Glendora : 07-19-2008 at 01:59 PM. |

Tink - I loved reading what you posted. You sound so positive, happy and on-track with your eating. Big kudos to you for being so insightful and reflective!
Glendora - My pleasure. I have seen so many kids at different spot on the spectrum and from what you described he is indeed very high-functioning, which is terrific. The fact that he is affectionate is also HUGE. He will get there with his language, boys in general, are slower in that area. Shelagh - no need to deny yourself the carbs! You can enjoy them and lose with this woe! How was your birthday? Cindy - are you going camping too? Enjoy your visit with your daughter. Last edited by EmandM : 07-19-2008 at 01:28 PM. |
