Wow! There was a lot of activity here yesterday! It is just so encouraging to read about how everyone is doing. When no one around you understands why you're eating how you are and how you could possibly lose weight - in a healthy way - it means the world to come here and realize that you're not alone and you haven't been sold a bill of goods! On the other hand, most people don't know I'm eating any differently, because when I'm out (usually at supper) with friends, there is always a way to make a reward meal work! I know it's been said before, but it's hard to believe this really can work over the long haul. I've been on this for a couple of months now, and I think I am still waiting for it to "quit working"!
Anyways, a quick question: Can anyone tell me how CALP/CAD has affected their blood lipid levels? I am due to get checked, but I don't want to have to fight my doctor on this. On the other hand, genetics are not on my side with the whole cholesterol/triglycerides thing. I'd love to hear stories (good and bad) of how this has worked for people. Anyone on some sort of medicine for a time, and then as weight loss progressed was able to get off? I'm not on anything right now, and I want to be thinking about what is best when I go in to get tested. Thanks in advance! Onward, Everyone!

Apple butter is VERY easy to make. Just take applesauce, season it up with whatever you want (usually a little more sugar and cinnamon) and slowly cook it down on the stove (take some more moisture out of it) until it is thicker. However thick you want it.

Hi Everyone!
Wow we're buzzing with energy these days! I like it! Scale says 151 this morning. Welcome to all of the new folks that I haven't said hello to yet! I love this WOE - and this is a great group of ladies - a few of our "regulars" are on vacations at the moment, they'll be excited to see all of the activity when they get back. Mom2cgpd - I notice you were in your 40s with your last baby - that makes me so happy as I am planning to conceive this fall at 41 and of course everyone has their opinions about age, etc. All I know is my doc says all test levels are good, she'd just like to see a little more weight off ideally, but I'm good to go! OKMom - My RM's were crazy when I first transitioned from Atkins - I think it was my way of making up for so much restriction for so long. It naturally balanced out. Although I don't strictly balance still and I occasionally will have big, carb heavy RMs - which I know work in the long run for slow loss or maintenance for me - but right now I'm focused on a little bit of quick loss - which is why I'm keeping it clean. Pamela - great avatar - love that fruit. I did the fruit flush recently and although it was tough to get through (just missed other stuff) I was so excited to have all the fruit that I hadn't really been enjoying enough of with only having it at my RM. I may throw in some all fruit RM's like Oriana does soon - I just love all the fresh stuff this time of year! Glendora - I've been getting up early just to make the most of the day - otherwise I'm really gone all day until 7pm and since I'm not much of an evening person, even though I've been staying up later than I used to, it's usually in front of the tv. When I used to get up early (5am) and went to bed early (9ish) I would read more, get up and do some home things in the morning - I'm just on a new routine with my job schedule at the moment - have never started work so late and gotten home so late before - so just adjusting. It doesn't help that I have an hour commute each way either. But it's all good! Life is pretty simple right now and I like that! Speaking of which - time to get moving now - so a big group hug to everyone I haven't mentioned directly! - Amy

Hi...let me try to catch up!
First of all, I'm down half a pound this morning, but I weighed myself an hour later so that could be misleading. I've read that usually you weigh less later in the morning. Patty, I am working on a novel (historical fiction), but for the bling-bling I write nonfiction. Articles, mostly. I've done this for eight years. Do you write? Kate, I didn't weigh with my clothes on--the reason I'm standing on the toilet in the picture is that the bathroom mirror is the only mirror in my house that will show my whole body. So I have my whole Terlet Picture Collection for weight comparisons.Amy, what a great idea. Sometimes I get up early for the same reason, especially when I'm headed for an away-from-the-home day. I'm going to keep reading...everybody have a good day! |

Good morning,
Pam, thank you for suggesting my blog as a CM resource. Even though the menus are what I eat, I was hoping it could be used as a template for someone else. I have tried CALP in the past and discovered it worked very well for me and the only reason I stopped was because I was focussed on only my weight. When I began this WOE in March of this year, I realized it was not only about the weight this time but becoming fit and healthy as well. Tink, nice to hear you are seeing new numbers. KUTGW Kate, I really appreciate you taking the time to read my blog and for letting me know that you did, thanks. My house is beginning to look a bit better since I was able to get a few things done yesterday. I finally unloaded 6 boxes that I got from my sister and my mom. The problem with unloading boxes is having to find a place to put everything that came out of them. I have this beautiful lamp that came from my grandma and I have no idea where to put it. The living room looks much better without the boxes but now I have one of them in my bedroom that needs to be unloaded. I can't wait to get to the point where everything is put away and all I have is house cleaning left to do. I completed 3 miles of WATP and used my weights yesterday. I thought I bought 2 lb. weights and discovered I did but the package contained two 1 lb. weights. There is a sporting goods store in town and I will have to check to see if I can find what I am looking for there. DH is working at home today so there is a chance of getting our Bowflex completed today instead of waiting until tonight. My menu for yesterday included: CM: 2 cups of coffee CM: Tri Tip and green beans w/vinaigrette RM: Shrimp salad w/avocado, bacon bits, colby cheese, and Ranch I took my chromium and drank plenty of water. |

Wish me luck guys--
--DH was asking questions about how I was eating---being a little critical, and ranting about excess anything. He knows I lost weight on LC, (20#) and I told him I was re-vamping a little bit, because to me, CAD seems to be 2 very LC meals with 1 regular meal thrown in. That may be over-simplifying, but I am talking to a man with no inclinations to healthy eating/foods. He (and my son) can't figure out how bacon and eggs can possibly be an ok breakfast. They were both arguing with me this morning. So I am going to work on DH first. I may come here to vent occasionally, but my guess is I will also have some quotable quotes, knowing my family, as well.![]() When he started ranting about no milk, it took forever to get thru to him that he could drink milk, and eat ice cream, he just had to do it at ONE meal a day. Not whenever it strikes his fancy and again at bedtime. (I will give him credit, he had back surgery 1st of June, and if anyone out there has tried to keep a farmer from going outside and doing things, sympathy would be appreciated here!!! And he has only gained 4 lbs since. But he was a little overweight to start with, too)I know I just need to be patient, and when he decides he wants to understand what I am saying, then it will soak in. Until then, I will only bring up foods and WOE occasionally. If I come up with a really hard-to-get-thru idea or thought, might ask you guys for help in breaking it down into guy-English. ![]()

Today, I decided to test the waters. My problem with weight (a lot of it) is we still go to my mother's for lunch 6 days a week. And Mom is a pretty good cook, who is easily offended if you don't eat what she fixed. (Rural midwest phenomenon, maybe).
I had bacon and eggs for bf. Lunch was Ham steak, green beans, potatoes and gravy with peach pie topprf with ice cream. I have promised myself a lettuce salad for supper, and meat. I am down 2# since starting CAD, so this is "testing the waters" so-to-speak |

WOW!!!! You guys are just amazing!!! I'm still trying to catch up!
![]() Hi to all the new girls, I will post personals when I get you all straightened out... It took me two hours to read everything! You girls make me blush on my weight loss, cause I haven't reached the 100 pound mark (84 pounds), but...Steph has and she's past the 100 pound mark!! Yea Steph!! I think she's on vacation too right now. But thank you girls and I really thank cad for helping me get to my goal....I lost all of my weight on cad, I started one meal a day back in March of 07 and March 08 had my tummy tuck, so I'm so happy to be where I am right now. I want to lose more, maybe 20 more, but I'm not sure right now, I'm just kinda happy where I am. I love maintance, it's a no stress kind of eating. I know there are a few girls that are on maintance, so they know what I'm talking about. Tink...YEA!!! I knew you would get the scales to go down...cad does work, huh?! I'm glad your gonna have a new one in your future, good luck hun!! Is this the first, or do you have other children? Patty, when I was out the other day, we went for a long walk uphill out in the woods and I got sore, so I took a pain pill and I'll tell you what....it made me so hungry!!! So I betcha your meds is what is making you hungry too!! Of course we kinda suspected that all along, huh?! But now I know for sure...they must make our insulin spike when we take meds!! I am at the mercy of work food, I didn't bring anything except desert, so it's going to be, beef stew soup, teriyaki chicken wings, egg roll, berry tortilla roll up. Drink/braggs. This may change once I see what they have for a salad bar...some times there's potato salads and stuff that they make fresh. I'll post again later, girls!! Hopefully I can respond to some of the questions?!

Karen, I know what you mean in trying to explain this plan to our men folk...!! I gave up on mine, he's on his own!! We don't eat together cause I like lunch and he likes his at night time, so we fix our own meals. But he's trying and has lost some. I think doing lunch at mom's is perfect, thats what I would do, that way you get to eat whatever she has and then do a controlled dinner....it's perfect!!
Good going on the 2 pounds all ready...yea!!! |

Jeni...I had 310 cholestrol levels, and now I'm down to 240 and that number is my normal one, I've been in the 240's since I was 19 years old. I was on blood pressure meds and water pills, I got off all those meds since starting cad, so you should see better results in your labs!! It may take a bit, I think I had mine down within 3 months. Good luck with yours too!!

Hi Ladies
![]() I fell off the wagon and GOT RUN OVER AS WELL ![]() I didn't anticipate how hard this was going to be with my kitchen gutted! ![]() I think a lot of it is just pure stress eating. Not horrible eating but I have been eating RM items at my CM times. Like cheerios and milk for breakfast or yoplait yogurt etc. My RM's weren't balanced at all like I was making fish sticks or chicken nuggets since it was quick. The higher carbohydrate during the day an not just at RM time has caused high blood sugars during the day. This morning I had watermelon, 1/2 banana and 2 eggs and 3 strips bacon and my blood sugars were spiked and causing me to feel like I was having an outer body experience! I hate that wanting to jump out of my skin feeling I get with high blood sugars! So, my husband ripped my kitchen apart (do have an oven plugged in and my fridge plugged in but that is it). Made eggs this morning and had some already cooked bacon (that stuff is great!) with some fruit. Lunch was chicken breast that I baked. It's been hard with a ripped up kitchen! ![]() I have been using paper plates and plastic ware and cups (have to wash the dishes in the laundry room sink so thought this would help). My husband was planning on working on the kitchen a little after work each night but ended up having to leave on Monday to one my parents rentals across the water (an hour away) - (renters trashed it) and we thought he would be gone for 2 or 3 days and now it's become ALL WEEK with all of the repairs he comes home tomorrow night - stays the weekend and then has to go back again all next week and probably part of the following week since my Mom also wants him to rip out the carpet and lay oak hardwoods there (Always coming home on the weekend). He's only an hour away but it's hard with him not being here AND having my kitchen missing ![]() We talk on the phone like little high schoolers in the evening - staying on the phone until we are both so tired we can barely speak ![]() So, I am going to try to pick up things this weekend when we go grocery shopping that will be QUICK CM meals - I need more stuff to make salads as well since the rabbits have been really taking care of my salad bar items! ![]() Oh speaking of our bunnies - I have current pictures that I would like to share! They are going to be 4 weeks old this Saturday! Oh they are so cute and snuggly! Just love them all so much! The greatest thing is our Pomeranian Rosco and Mama bunny have become good friends since she has been in the house with her babies. Rosco is so happy to see them and touch noses - his little butt swings back and forth wiggling his tail around. I'll be back to post tomorrow with my meals! MUST stay on track! Oh and another picture I am going to share which I find really SCARY but also funny is my dining room with my KITCHEN in it the other half of my kitchen is in boxes in my family room against the wall ![]() My son looks like one of those price is right ladies (except a boy of course) showing the items off! Oh boy, I can't wait to have my dining room back again in the HOPEFULLY near future! We've been reduced to eating on paper plates on the sofa in the family room! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Awwwwww............I LOVE bunnies. I sure miss mine.
Don't despair. The kitchen will get done and you'll get back with the program. Mine took 7 weeks and I thought I'd go crazy, but I love it so much now. It was worth every minute of inconvenience! I hadn't had time to eat all day until about 3:00. I ate some SF ham and cream cheese to hold me until my RM. I'm about to go cook some pork sirloin steaks. Yummy! |

Mikesmommy - I can really relate to the saying at the bottom of your post:
"Each excess pound can be the physical result of putting the needs of others before your own." I know that is why I carry around an extra 35 pounds! What I didn't know was why I kept the weight on after I finally stopped putting everyone else before me (after 45+ years - I'm 50). I finally figured it out after reading CAD. I was diagnosed with Graves Disease two years ago (it is an autoimmune disorder which makes me hyperthyroid). After a lot of research, I am convinced that my inability to speak my truth about my needs contributed to my getting sick. Good luck with the torn up kitchen. I went through that about ten years ago and it was NO fun! Kate |

Hi ladies! I will do my best to respond to everyone, but I may miss some at the bottom of the page when I scroll down! lol This has been a busy place and I was away from my computer most of the day.
Mikesmommy - don't worry about falling off the wagon - it happens to the best of us. Sounds like you are back on plan. KUTGW. Your rabbits are sooooo cute! Cindy - are you back from your trip? I have to tell you, you sound so confident in your woe now that you have learned what works and what doesn't. I am re-reading the old ones from when you have just decided to do one meal a day. What a difference, you are amazing! Patty - how did you do today? Did you do one meal again today? Teri - no problem about the referral to your blog. I am glad you don't mind that I did that. I totally agree that CALP is healthier. I try to include fruits and veg in my RM but I don't always, and more often than not there is more junky stuff than healthy stuff! Maybe someday! Pamela - I don't know where my aunt's family is from in NZ. I will have to ask the next time I speak with them. They are in England now, so we don't chat very often, unfortunately. Kate - they tested me for Graves at one point too, but turns out I just had a couple of symptoms that go along with PCOS, but not enough for an official diagnosis, so they just put me back on the pill. I hear ya about putting other people's needs first. I think women do that way too often and we need to stop feeling guilty for voicing our own needs and taking care of ourselves!! iakaren - men don't usually get this woe. The proof is in the puddin pardon the pun! He will not be able to say much as you are already losing weight! Glendora - I love historical fiction. Have you read the Sarah Donati series or Diane Gibaldon (SP?) Outlander? How far along are you in your novel? Tink - WOO HOO! 151 - that is awesome news. Keep up the good work! RM for me tonight was a toasted frilled chicken sub from Subway (6"), some mango slices (fresh), Smart Ones fudge cake and som peanut butter, chocolate and marshmallow fugdge (a bite as DH ate most of it)! lol Today I put up new wall deocorations for my girls' room. It is so fun to decorate with little girl things! I had a lot of fun. I bought a new vaccum and I am actually excited to tackle my baseboards. I must be crazy! Pam |
