Patty - You go GIRL! Belly dance to your heart's content
![]() Moni - Nice to have you back - I also read old posts and remember you! Just had to mention that I had a similar thing happen with migraines and Maxalt stopping working. They switched me to Relpax which I've had good luck with - but even more exciting is an over the counter med available in the UK called Migraleve that I picked up when there and it has worked wonders for me. Of course it's not available in this country, but I wonder if a doctor couldn't formulate it for you or if you could order online somewhere or have someone send it to you to try - it hasn't let me down once. Laurie - welcome back - I remember you too from reading and your hair looks fantastic - I want to look like you when I'm 51... actually I'd take it at 41 ![]() Teri - You are doing so well - I think I remember us coming on board around the same time and you have stayed so steady - it's inspiring. I'm sorry to hear about your grandma - I'll be sending good thoughts. I lost my mom to lung cancer 5 years ago and my Dad to heart failure last year so I know all about watching them go. In a weird way, as hard as it is though, it was a special time for me to be there with them through that time. Stephanie - I'm sorry about your kitty. I inherited my parents little dog and as naughty as he can be, I just love him to pieces, but I see him slowing down (he's 11) and he's diabetic so I know he won't be around forever - it's so hard with our furry friends sometimes. You are my inspiration now for my healthy, clean eating moving forward - I'm so exciting to be watching you go, go, go. Everyone else - Cindy, Pam, Dana, Linda, Barbara, Shelagh, Angela, Kate and the many others now here - keep up the good work and have a great day! -Tink

Patty, belly dancing looks like so much fun! That might be an interesting exercise idea......hmmmm.....
Thanks to everyone for the welcome back and the kind comments about my age. Pam, the band is going back to Las Vegas again this year. Last year was the first time they'd had this event at the Southpoint Hotel and it was really, really nice. I'm looking forward to it again, but I hope I don't have to throw any drunks off the stage again! LOL! |

Woo-hoo Miss belly-dancing Patty! I bet that's fun!
I'm back on plan today, I was off all weekend. Friday was my birthday and DH took me out, then I just kept on eating pretty much all weekend! But I'm back. It wasn't hard to get back on my plan today. When I go in my office in a half hour, that's when it's going to be a challenge, I'll bet! Wish me luck! Laurie, you look fantastic! I wish I looked as good now and I'm 10 years younger! Your DD looks really young too. You have young genes I suppose. Wish I had been blessed with those! Wow our thread is so busy.. I like to see that! I will be back tomorrow; gonna go get a quick walk in with my DH and DS before work. Night everybody!

Hi all! I've been MIA for a few days, and I've missed a lot! Welcome to Jeni!
And welcome back, Laurie and nice to see you too, Shirl and Moni! I hope you all had a great 4th!Thanks, Barbara, and Tink, for your thoughts about my kitty. Teri, I'm sorry to hear that your grandma isn't doing well. I hope she isn't suffering. Happy belated birthday, Dana! ![]() I'm up 2 pounds since the 4th, but all is well. Actually, since my RM on the evening of the 4th, I've been "upping" my carbs a bit, as to get my body ready for our upcoming vacation, and I've been pleased that I've been holding at 203 pounds. I continue to be faithful with my daily walking, and my water quota. And I've been getting extra exercise too, with the pool, weeding the garden, cutting grass, and moving firewood. My RM for tonight was poached chicken, one bite of chicken/broccoli/rice casserole, tossed salad, oven baked zucchini, about 1 cup of popcorn (wasn't that tasty, so I didn't eat the rest), and a milk shake. I was thinking of a piece of "dieting advice" that I had read years ago somewhere -- to not waste your time eating something if it didn't taste like a "10" (you know -- great!), so I stopped eating it. My CM for the day was boiled shrimp and a chunk of cheese. You go, Patty, with your belly-dancing! That sounds like fun! Tink, I think that's wonderful upcoming news for you!! Best wishes! Hello to all of you who I didn't personally mention! I've got to run for now....be back as soon as I can! Take care, friends and stay on your plans -- it feels so good to be in control of your eating habits!! Plan, plan, plan!!!

Hi gals!
Laurie - Vegas must be so much fun! Glad to hear you are going back. I'm a redhead too! Well, it's more strawberry blonde now, it has gotten lighter and blonder with age (I'm 33 - lol). It used to be really red, but an orangey red. Redheads rock! ![]() Tink - you sound like you are really rejuvenating your plan. That is great news. Sometimes we need to shake things up a bit to keep motivated. I always want to balance my RM's more and include more fruits and veg. I am afraid that while I may be thin, I am probably not so healthy on the inside. I eat a lot of junk. ![]() Patty - I tried belly dancing years ago and I loved it too. I bought a dvd and everything. My heart belongs to running though, so I couldn't keep up the belly dancing and the running. Steph - I totally agree with what you posted and I do that too. I sort of combine the philosophies of intuitive eating with CAD. So for my RM I only eat when I am truly hungry, I only eat what I truly want and I stop when I am full. It really works for me. I used to eat something just cause it was there, but even during my RM I figured that was a silly thing to do! Why waste calories on something I don't even want?!?! Glad to hear you are in a good head space and feel in control. That is the best feeling! Dana - glad to hear you are having an easy time getting back on plan. I find weekends harder too. In fact I used to do CAD but I would have one day a week where I wouldn't follow the plan. It was like my cheat day. I don't do this now as I want my cravings to be in control! I found that if I chose Friday for my cheat day, I would have a hard time getting back on plan before Monday! So I stopped that pretty quickly! CKmom - try and find something that doesn't feel like exercise. Something you will actually enjoy. Maybe you could belly dance like Patty? I was saying in an earlier post that although I am an avid runner, some days I just don't feel like it. So I tell myself "just do 5 minutes on the treadmill, and if after that you want to stop you can." I have never stopped after 5 min. Once I am on and going I continue to the end. Or try and remember the feeling after you are finished. Hope this helps. Teri - I couldn't find the ice cream bars! I bought some other ones, but I will keep looking for the Haagen!RM for tonight was : turkey burger, Smart Ones fudge cake, piece of dark chocolate, mango, bite of my kids' ice cream (yes, literally one teaspoon full, that is what she left in her bowl)! ![]() Keep CAD'ing ladies! Pam |

Today went well - I had planned a sort Atkins induction type day - allowing myself to eat whenever I needed but only low carb/high protein type foods. I basically wound up having 4 mini meals - 3 of greek yogurt and 1 of tuna fish w/mayo and then for my dinner/RM I had some beautiful swordfish and an artichoke with chipotle mayo. I feel a little bit like I'd like something sweet or snacky now (just finished dinner) but I know that will pass and in a few days there will be no more cravings. Tomorrow I will go to 2 cms and a clean, balanced rm. (As an fyi to those that are new, I have done okay with having greek yogurt as a low-carb protein, but it is not actually on the list of cm allowed foods).
Have a good night - see you all tomorrow! - Tink |

Well, I must confess that I didn't actually start CALP today as I'd intended. I did okay, though. I'm hoping I'll find the strength to get started tomorrow. The hardest thing is not drinking my beloved iced tea with Sweet-n-Low all day. I've put a couple of bottles of water into the fridge, though.
I just got home from the most wonderfully fun evening with my family. DD20 has been wanting to go see Wall-E so we finally decided that late this afternoon was the best time. My parents came, as well as DD24 & her DH and their best friend. We met at the theater and really enjoyed the movie. It was adorable! Then we went to Logan's Roadhouse, where my Dad bought dinner for us all. I had a wonderful steak, broccoli, and salad. After that, we stopped by DD24's new house because my parents were picking up some boxes and a dolly they'd used on moving day and I thought we were just stopping by to look at some shelves DD24 had installed in a closet. My birthday was June 17th and my family had told me they'd gotten me a present, but it hadn't arrived yet. DD24 took great delight in taunting me about it a few times. I forgot about it anyway, so I wasn't suspicious that this evening was about to turn into something magnificent! DD24 sat me in the living room floor and put out several packages to open. I was so shocked when I opened a Wii AND Wii Fit AND several Wii games! I had mentioned about three months ago that it looked like a lot of fun and it was getting rave reviews on the boards. I also knew it was really hard to find. My DH is amazingly resourceful though, and he tracked it all down for a fabulous price. Wow! So, DD24 had already set up little Mii's for several of us and I spent a few minutes setting up one to look like her and her DH. What fun! Then my Mom and I played bowling. Fun! Then DH & SIL played tennis. We had SO much fun! It's going to take me quite awhile to get around to trying all the things I have to play with now. It'll certainly be better for me than sitting around working a jigsaw puzzle or reading because I'm bored. I'm going to hit the sack now. I wore myself out. ![]() Oh, by the way, Patty. I'm really more of a strawberry blonde, too. My hair has actually gotten a little darker with age, but there's still a lot of blonde in there to help hide the bit of gray I have!

Good morning,
Patty, you sound so excited over the belly dancing. I hope you continue to enjoy it and it remains fun for you to do. Tink, thanks for your kind thoughts. I am sorry you lost both of your parents. I can totally relate to how special it is to be there for them. The thought of getting ready to conceive must be exciting for you, I wish you well. Dana, Happy Belated Birthday and I hope your day was special! Stephanie, thanks for your kind thoughts. I will not be going to my folks house this week since my aunt has come to visit my grandma. I don't like to be there when others are visiting, because I don't want to take away any special time they may have together. I love my grandma dearly and don't want to lose her, but I really don't want her to suffer either. Pam, sorry you were unable to find the ice cream. I finished my dinner last night and went to get an ice cream bar only to find there were not any left. DD19 has been sharing them with me so they disappear twice as fast. Laurie, how lucky you are to have celebrated two birthdays this year and not having to add a digit. DS18 got a Wii for Christmas and I really enjoy playing it with my family. I have not even considered getting a Wii Fit since the console belongs to DS and I don't know how long either of them will be around. The worst part about that game is, it is so fun that you don't realize you are using muscles that will become sore the next day. I completed my 3 miles of WATP yesterday and today is Bowflex. I didn't make it to the grocery store yesterday so it is on the agenda for today. Since the time got away from me yesterday, I put it off for today since I don't have to work out before I go. My menu for yesterday included: CM: 2 cups coffee CM: Chicken breast w/mozzarella cheese and green beans w/vinaigrette RM: Salad w/ranch, salmon, asparagus w/mayo, and cantaloupe I took my chromium and drank plenty of water. Hi everyone! I'm in early today and it's really busy at work. So this will be short.
Shirl, it's funny you mentioned the migraine thing, cause I just read a report yesterday about how magnesium helps with those. I take them for the bowels, and they also help with my heart palpatations! Steph....I do that too...I'll eat only if it's something great!! If I don't like it, I'll tose it aside and eat something else. This is good to know!! Patty, have fun, hun! Laurie, whoo-hoo!! A wii game...now thats what I want too!! I'll wait til next year though, I can't do it right now...and maybe the prices will be better. Oops...gotta go.... I'm having a sandwich of some kind, protein shake, salad bar??!! I'll come in later and say for sure what I had for lunch! ![]()

Hi, everyone! I havn't posted since we went out of town for the 4th. I just read everyone's posts and am caught up. I ate off plan during the holiday weekend but not horribly (which is unusual). I don't want to weigh for a few days - seeing the scale go up can really get me down.....
It was so hot last night that all I wanted for dinner was ice cream. Which I ate. I then fell asleep almost immediately (6:30 p.m.) and pretty much stayed asleep all night. This morning I was wondering if it was the carbs? I am going to start paying more attention to how I feel after eating sugary/fatty carbs.... Kate |

Hi Everyone -
Scale working it's way back down to 157 this morning. Ovary pain seems to have subsided as well so think I just must have had a small cyst that has resolved itself - this happened years ago as well - so hopefully any extra bloat will also go - although this heat is miserable here in the SF area. And with the smoke from the fires it's terrible. Kate I totally understand how you feel - I'm sleepy as well, but without air conditioning in my UPSTAIRS bedroom, I'm not doing great at staying asleep all night! The poor dog is even panting. Last night I pointed a small fan directly onto us and finally fell asleep. I am on an hour by hour task of reminding myself why I don't want to eat any "junk" - not that I was eating tons of junk prior, but it's funny when I tell myself I'm eating "cleanly" the mind starts chiming in! I'm sure I'm also having some cravings again today since I'm really not eating a lot of carbs at all - and all sugars are gone. I am having one cup of coffee so that might be aggravating the cravings a bit - but for the moment, I'm liking the energy it gives me mid-day so for now, I'm keeping it. Okay - back to work - thank goodness for AC at the office. Have a good day all - -A |

We just got back from playing Golf and Dawn and I had a good round. I was so surprised because I haven't gotten to play for a while, but we had a lot of fun...
I got my shower and we are going to take Dawn and Mikey to our favorite restaurant for dinner. We will be leaving in a bit... Have a great evening all... |

Help! I just started the diet and I think I'm doing something wrong!
Hi everyone, I just started the diet, and I'm worried that I'm making a mistake. The first couple of days I lost 4 pounds, and then I gained them back! I've read the book over and over again and I think I'm following all the rules, but I think that my reward meal is not balanced enough. It's hard for me to eyeball the 1/3 protein 1/3 low carb veggies and the other 1/3 portion high carb foods. Maybe I'm just eating way too much? Do you have any suggestions for me?
This is what I ate today, and ususally every day... CM: 2 eggs and bacon CM: pork carnitas and stir fried zucchini in Pam. Yesterday I had something similar, but for dinner I had some spaghetti with italian sausage and zuchini and I started it with a salad. I also had a small glass of wine and a bite of homemade apple pie. I just remembered, I had a can of soda and some bread too. Maybe too many hi carbs? Please help me, I'm so tired of being overweight. ![]() Last edited by LaraSuzz : 07-08-2008 at 04:21 PM. |

Larasuzz, you haven't done anything wrong!! You will go up and down with certain dinners, like your spagettii. I go up everytime I eat spagettii, it's the noodles that does it to me, but it goes back down in a day or two. Just keep weighing everyday, but do average it out for the week, it will show you that you are losing when you think you aren't. You meals look perfect to me, hun, I'm so excited for you, your gonna love this plan and your meals!! Welcome to CAD!!!

LaraSuzz -
Cindy is so right - we do go up and down -that's one thing the Heller's stress in their books and has been a huge reminder for me. Keep track of daily weight, but average it for the week so you will most of the time see a loss for the week despite ups and downs throughout. So much can influence our scale weight - water retention from our monthly cycle or excessive heat or a particular meal or alcohol. You're doing great so hang in there and it will pay off! - Tink |

O.k.,, I just wanted to post my lunch for today...it's a weird one, they didn't have sandwich day like they usually do on Tue.'s, so I had:
Shake (strawberry, fresh) potato salad, jello fluff, nuts, mango strips, cake. I had my whole shake, but just had bites of everything until I was satisfied and then quit. I threw away most of my potato salad and cake, so it was a good lunch. Tomorrow, will be a luncheon meeting, so whatever they have is what I'll have....just out of my control, but I make it work. I can make my shake and have that too, so it's not too bad...I just don't want to eat too many glutamates...thats all. Otherwise I'd eat ANYTHING!! ![]() I've been craving clam chowder, so I think I'll make a nice big pot on thursday and freeze most of it for future lunches, I think I can...does cream freeze o.k.? I know milk does. I know that potatoes don't do too well, they get kinda mushy. Anyway, I'm heading for home, so I'll see you all tomorrow! |

Good evening, all! Here are my meals for the day: Lunch (CM): 2 Wendy's bacon jr. cheeseburgers, with mayo and lettuce, and without the buns, and a Caesar side salad. For my RM, I had: meatloaf, cheese, some ketchup, some leftover zucchini, 1/2 red pepper with dip, an apple, and a milkshake. I walked for 30 minutes in the pool today, and got all of my water in. My weight this morning was 202.5, so I lost 1/2 pound of the 2 that I had gained over the 4th.
Hi LaraSuzz! May I make a suggestion? For your CMs, only eat what is allowed on the Craving-Reducing Foods List, and save all other food for your Reward Meals only. I see that you listed zucchini for your CM, and I just referred to my CALP book, and I don't see zucchini on the "allowable" foods list for CMs. And I'm not sure what's in pork carnitas, but you have to be careful if there is any sugar or glutamates in it. Again, if you're not sure, save that for your RMs. In the beginning, it can be hard to balance your plate, but believe me, for me, it's made a world of difference! Oh, another idea that I try to follow is to eat "towards" your carbs when having your RM. In other words, eat your salad, your low carb veggies and protein, then have your higher carb foods towards the end of your meal. The Hellers have explained it this way in their book, The 7 Day Low-Carb Rescue and Recovery Plan: "Eat towards your carbs in every meal and snack. This way, the amount of time insulin has to be released is greatly shortened, and cravings too. So less insulin can mean reduced insulin resistance; your body is able to burn up fat rather than store it." "Insulin is called the hunger hormone because of its power to make you crave carbohydrates." I have used this suggestion, and has seemed to help me greatly!! I hope this helps you! Good luck to you, and post here so we can support you and help you too! Well, have a good evening, all, and see you later! |
