Hi all. I am new to the board and new to CAD. So far I am liking it but only on day 3! Breakfast is my biggest hill so far. I used to eat lots of carbos for breakfast. I usually take breakfast to work with me and eat around 9am (I cannot eat for several hours after I wake up-just not hungry at all). Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks!

WOW!! Day 1 was soooo easy!! while walking to the library today, i caught a whiff of the most wonderful fragrance: hot, fresh bread baking in a nearby bakery. While i breathed deeply, my bottom lip began to quiver & my eyes teared up, then i remembered... "i CAN EAT BREAD with my RM dinner!!" and a big smile crossed my face! (and i did eat a nice hot, buttered sourdough roll with my chicken fajita salad!!) What a feeling! Can't wait to see what tomrrow brings...

Yay BigMomma! that's right - you can enjoy those things! Now be patient with yourself - one thing Cindy reminded me when I came over from Atkins is that the scale can go up and she made me promise to give it a full 2 weeks to let things balance themselves out. I think I did creep ever so slightly and then started coming down and hooray went below where I'd been hanging out on induction for 10 weeks with no loss at all - just up and down the same 3lbs.

I feel glad to be back to CAD - looking forward to tomorrow!

Drextow - Welcome! If you haven't been on a low carb way of eating which it sounds like you have not then you may have a little transition time while your body adjusts - but don't worry, it will. Do you find yourself hungry at 9am or are you eating because "you're supposed to"? Some of the long timers may have some suggestions for you. Welcome aboard - you'll learn so much here and the support is wonderful - these ladies are true inspiration!

Good night all - congrats to everyone on their good plan day!
-Tink

Hello everyone,

I didn't get home until 7pm tonight and still had forty five minutes of WATP to do since I forgot my DVD when I left yesterday. After I finished my workout I still had to eat dinner. I ate my salad and veggies first and didn't have much room for my entree so I only ate half of it.

I arrived at my folks house in time to cook dinner yesterday. My dad just returned from Mexico late Thursday night so I was able to find out how his trip was. Mom was still taking it easy but her oxygen level is getting better. Grandma has been having some bad days and it seems the cancer is making her sick and very tired.

Moms doctor appointment went well and he said she could resume her normal activity but she is to begin slowly. The doctor said the smoke here in California is not good for grandma or mom so they are to remain in their air conditioned house for another week or so. I will not be returning on Wednesday because my mom is having her Maj Jong group at her house.

My menu for yesterday included:

CM: 2 cups of Coffee

CM: Pork chop and green beans w/vinaigrette

RM: Salad w/ranch, rib eye steak, green beans, and corn on the cob

I took my chromium and drank plenty of water.

Thanks, Shelagh! I like it when it goes down, but you never know what it's going to do next! Tomorrow might be right back up where I started. It's hot here, salty foods, yadda yadda a million reasons why... I need to be very relaxed and flexible about that number or it will make me crazy with worry. (Been there, don't like it! I have plenty of more important worries.) Your cheerleading did make me feel good!

Hi Big Momma! Welcome! Yeah, CAD can be very fun. That little slice of carb real estate becomes a real game to see what will sit there each night. Keep up the good work!

Welcome Drextow! I totally hear you about the breakfast thing... all low carbers were in the same boat at one time, so you are definitely not alone and are in good company! It takes a while to get out of the carby breakfast mindset. Don't worry about not eating right away in the morning, it actually works out better (for me anyway) to eat later in the morning. Tink is right, only eat if you are hungry! For a while there I got rid of breakfast all together and had two lunches instead. Like a Hobbit! First lunch and second lunch. That was lovely, it put the breakfast mentality right out the window. If you just HAVE to have some kind of thing, consider making the revolution rolls (or revoloopsies as cleochatra has rechristened them) They are just like bread and are very tasty, and they travel well to take to work. There are so many options for you to carry to work-- you might have more fun figuring out what you CAN have rather than what you can't! For me after many years I have settled on the spinach, tomato and cheese omelet for breakfast-- filling, simple, wholesome and quick. And completely CAD!

Hi everyone else! Hope you are all having a wonderful evening!

Lurking...

Hi, everyone. I have been lurking for a few days. I read all of the summer posts and most of the holiday posts. I feel like I know you. What a great group! I am going to join and give this a try. It feels like something I can do. I tried Atkins a long time ago and was successful for awhile. I have tried everything else too. My most recent attempt was a low calorie shake thingy that was horrible! I just turned 50 and I am determined to FINALLY get rid of the 40 lbs. I wake up thinking about them and I go to bed thinking about them. I would love to think about something else!

Have a good day!

Kate

Good Morning ladies...

The Zantac has finally taken hold, so I am feeling a little better this morning. I am just going to have to eat like normal people, at least for awhile. I am going to try to add more exercise, as soon as, I feel like it. I really think that I have an Ulcer or irritated stomach. The Zantac will take care of both...

Welcome to all the new comers. It is so good to have you with us and post often.

Good morning, Patty! Don't eat like normal people! They eat like cr@p! Just do CAD as written for a few days-- two nice healthy meals full of veggies and and a high quality protein and one meal packed with veggies and fruit and a little more good protein, even add wholesome carbs like rice, potatoes, etc. Just three meals a day-- isn't that the "old fashioned" normal? You have to eat SOMEthing, right? It's all normal natural food at normal natural intervals, just like humans have been eating since the dawn of civilization. I'm sorry you're not feeling well, please be good to yourself and feed yourself nutrient dense whole foods that your body needs.

Welcome Kate! The only way you will lose the weight is to stick to the plan for a very long time. Look at Cindy and Confetti-- jaw dropping success stories for CAD and they did it day by day, inch by inch, never giving up even when they screwed up. It has taken me a long time to take that advice to heart, I am still learning. You can do this, it actually is easy if your heart and head are in the right place! Get the book (library, amazon, etc.) and read it completely so you can fully understand why this diet works, it helps and is also very inspirational! Also, post plenty!

Have a great day, everyone!

Good Morning -
Welcome Kate! You're my neighbor - I'm in Sonoma County - work down in Marin! The skies have been eery haven't they - I'm thankful for the blue skies starting to peek back in a bit. I think you'll enjoy this program and Angela is right, we certainly have great inspiration in Stephanie and Cindy as well as to me everyone here keeps me plugging along!

I'm 154.5 today - up .5 - doesn't excite me, but I know the scale will fluctuate - which is why I record it here to keep me remembering that and not getting discouraged!

Keep up the good work everyone - catch you all later -
-Tink

Angela thanks Dear. I can't do LC because I get very lethargic do to being Hypothyroid. I have tried and tried over again to induce LC into my WOE. I have to have lots of carbs in order for my thyroid to work right.

Most of the time I eat very healthy and once in-awhile I have something in the bad carbs...
I eat whole grains, veggies and lean meats.

Good morning,

Angela, I have a problem with portion control when it comes to ice cream. I decided to start eating Haagen Das because I can get chocolate ice cream with a dark chocolate shell. My carbohydrate addiction happens to be chocolate and I can stick to my plan as long as I can feed it.

Linda, your new avatar is very nice. I hope you are feeling pretty good about yourself for sticking to plan. I know it can be difficult when you are surrounded with all of those temptations, so I think you deserve a nice gentle pat on your back, good job!

Tia & Kate, welcome! I love this WOE and feel you have finally found the right program. Atkins is like any program and only works when you stick to it. I like CALP because it is a program without starvation or deprivation. How many other 'diets' can you include the foods you love and still lose weight. IMO, anyone that can be successful on Atkins can easily handle this program, good luck. I hope you will join us and keep us informed on how you are doing!

Patty, I hope you are feeling better.

Shelagh, nice to hear you are still on plan, KUTGW!

Drextow, welcome! I do not eat breakfast because I am not hungry when I first get up either. When I wake up I drink two cups of coffee and eat as soon as I get hungry, which is usually late morning or around lunch time. I hope you will join us and keep us informed on how you are doing!

Carol, I have been doing just the opposite lately, I have been posting and not reading. I hope you will become rested so you can keep us informed on how you are doing!

Angela, it is so nice to have you back! I really like the way you think because I have agreed with the advice you have been willing to share with others. Please don't wander off again, you are a wonderful asset to this group!

Tink, I was wondering where you were located, thanks for sharing.

I have a lot to do again today and need to ignore my blog until I get everything done. DH was kind enough to mop the kitchen floor and entry way on Sunday after I left, so the least I could do would be to straighten the house.

I spent forty five minutes and completed all 3 miles of WATP last night. Today is Bowflex, so when DH gets home we will get it done. I don't think I mentioned it before, but I look forward to getting our Bowflex exercises done because I really like it. I would have never thought that strength training would be something I would enjoy, but I am actually toning up a bit.

My menu for yesterday included:

CM: 2 cups of Coffee

CM: Steak and green beans

RM: Salad w/ranch, chicken enchilada, and spinach

I forgot to take my chromium with me to my folks house and since I try and take it at the same time every day, I will take it today. I did drink plenty of water though!

Hi everyone, and welcome to the new folks! I hope you much success with this program, and post often so we all can get to know you all! There are great people here, with a lot of support and wisdom to share!

Patty, I hope you're feeling better! I have had problems with acid reflux too, and it's not fun! You do what's right for you -- we'll support you, no matter what!

Cindy, I know this is a few days late, but ouch! I hope you're feeling better, with that stitch! Take care of yourself -- recovery is a long process.

Linda, your party sounds like it was wonderful!! And I love the view from your new deck -- you have such a pretty setting where you live. I'm sure it was a lot of fun!

Hi Tink! Don't let the "see-sawing" scale discourage you -- believe me, I see-saw a lot! Glad to see you!

Teri, glad to hear that your mom is improving.

Hi to Dana, Pam, Shelagh, Angela, and anyone I accidentally forgot to personally mention! I've been so busy, and I feel guilty for not posting as often as I'd like to, but remember, I am with you all in mind and spirit! CAD/CALP is my life now, and you all are a very important part of my day! I am still holding at 201, and all is well. We will be going on vacation soon, and I'm a bit worried about gaining, but I know I will be 100% on plan while I'm gone. However, we all know how restaurant food can be, so, I'm mentally preparing myself....

I had a CM of 2 scrambled cheese/ham eggs, and my girls and I went for a 30 minute walk. Tonight's RM will include grilled steak and salad, as well as some other things I haven't come up with yet. I was going to make baked potatoes for my family, but I won't have any -- I'd rather "spend" my carb allowance on other things -- I'll let you know!

Anyone having a gathering on the 4th? We will be, and so far we're having about 18 people here. I just hope the weather holds up for us -- it's been so unpredictable these past few days. OK, gotta run for now -- stay on plan, friends -- it feels so good to be in control!!!!

Peace.....

Patty, how many carbs do you need each day? My mother has thyroid issues and we are trying to "get it right" so she can feel her best. It's not easy! When your thyroid is messed up, everything seems to be a mess. She is on CAD with me, and she seems to be doing very well-- there are plenty of carbs in the veggies, cheese and such she eats during CMs, and also plenty during dinner, adding up all the veg, rice, potato, corn, bread, goodie or whatever is on the plate... it adds up pretty fast! She's running about 100 to 150 carbs a day. I have not done any serious research into the thyroid/carb issue, but I've heard thyroid patients need at least 30 carbs per day and should never go below that. I know everyone is different, so at what carb level do you feel best? Maybe that will help me figure out how to help my mother better.

The issue with me is that for the first two meals, if I eat CMs then I get very lethargic ( another words, I want to sleep a lot and have very low energy). This may just be me and have nothing to do with how your Mother feels. I don't know how many carbs I eat a day, for I don't count them. On the CMs you are suppose to keep your carbs very low and this is what throws me into being lethargic. I know you don't understand Angela, because, if you don't have thyroid issues, it is hard to get the concept, and it is hard to explain... When I eat 1 meal a day, I do the same thing( very tired and low energy), and you are right, hypothyroidism, is not supposed to get below 30 grams of carbs a day...
Do you kind of understand what I am trying to say?

Hi everyone. Thank you for the warm welcome! You all seem like a really positive, upbeat group (which is what I am looking for). Last night I prepared a breakfast to bring (black beans and grated Tillamook cheese with a dab of sour cream and a couple of cherry tomatoes) this morning and of course ran out the door without it. Now my only option is instant oatmeal. I do have a bag O salad (with chicken in it and real dressing!) for lunch so that is good.

By the way, I am in Northern Cal too (I saw several from this neck of the woods). I am from the Sacramento area.

I will get the hang of it. I have 40 pounds to lose and would like to do that by Christmas. We are having a big family gathering in mid August. If I could lose 10-15 by then, I would be thrilled!

I exercise 2-3 times a week and am bumping that up this week to 4. That should help.

Anyhow, really glad to be here. I used to run my own support group for friends trying to lose weight (just a simple yahoo group) and it was tremendously successful for me. I do well with group interaction and support.

Of course, Patty. I'm not formally schooled on thyroid management, and my comments are naive to your situation. Sorry. I was just asking to see how your story and solutions could be beneficial to my mother.

Good luck and I hope you feel better quickly!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am very excited to find something that sounds doable (i.e., not starving all of the time and not looking at deprivation for ever). I also just love the support you give each other - it was so inspriational to read all of the posts!

Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: salad with scoop of tuna
Dinner: chicken, rice & sauteed veggies

Hi gals!

Patty - too bad about feeling lethargic. That is the worst. That is how I felt when I went in to the doctor to say that something was wrong as I normally have a ton of energy (I have to with twin toddlers)! lol Anyway, I hope you find what works for you.

Angela - your morning omelette sounds delish! I may have that for dinner one day (with a ton 'o carbs to go with it)!

Kate - your meals look great and very healthy! My RM's are always carb-heavy, but I am maintaining my weight so it's ok! I do CAD to control PCOS symptoms and cravings I used to have. KUTGW!

Drextow - have you started CAD? Your goals sound very reasonable to me. Good luck!

Stephanie - no worries, it's hard to respond to everyone! I actually fell off the wagon and it sort of flew under the posting radar! lol But it held me accountable so I am glad I posted! I am back on track today!

Hoppinn - I keep meaning to pick up those ice cream bars and then I forget and start to drool when I see them in your RM! lol I will put them on my list now! I love dark chocolate and Hagen Daas is the best!

Tink - good for you in not letting the scale discourage you. You are doing great and the scale is bound to fluctuate.

Tonight's RM will be: turkey burgers, corn on-the-cob and something chocolatey!

Have a great day everyone!

Pam

Kate - yes, ma'am.. you got it exactly right!!! What I bolded above was exactly the reason why I chose the CAD. After months of Kimkins I was ready to eat again.

Patty - oh hon, I'm sorry that you are not feeling well. Just take care of yourself!

Tink - today is day 2 and I'm feeling pretty good. I'm down 1.8 from yesterday. I am so enjoying the fruit today!

Hi to everybody! Sorry this is so quick - just trying to get things done before work tonight.
Be back later!
