Hi Everyone!!! And
Newbies! I'm down another 1.2 lbs today! Food is going great and I'm feeling better everyday. I see the surgeon for a follow up appt. on Thursday and I'm hoping for the ok to bike outdoors and to lift heavier weights soon. Good to see everyone working this plan! I'm really looking forward to the day that I can get back to it although I don't really think I'll eat much different than I am eating now. Had an appt. with the knee dr. and still can't do fitness walking but biking is fine. I don't think I'll be able to do fitness walking unless I get a total knee replacement. Oh well....that's a few years away now.

Stephanie, no, I haven't brought my plants in. It hasn't been cold here, just lots of wind and rain! Oh and about the printable coupons - I only have one store (CVS) that will accept them. Most of the stores that I shop at won't take them because of the chance that they're fraudulent. So I just rely on the coupons that I get from the newspaper.
Hi to everybody, hope you are all well. I'm about to get my RM ready - DH and I are going to have wings tonight (very spicy!) and watch American Idol. It's going to be a short night for me tonight because I'm back up at 2:00 in the morning! I think a nap will be in order at 6am tomorrow!

Hi everyone! Linda, you're doing so well -- good for you!
Hi Cindy, nice to see you! How are your grandbabies doing? Enjoy your visit! I would love some cereal, but I'm half-afraid to have some --you know, portion control issue. What kind do you like to eat? EmandM -- I was diagnosed by my primary care physician about 10 years ago with PCOS. I had never heard of it before. He made the diagnosis from my various symptoms: (I had erratic, heavy periods, with very severe cramps. I had terrible cystic acne, as well as very oily skin as a young lady and treated with doctors for many years. Obesity, high lipid blood levels, as well as high glucose readings.) The doctor told me that I was lucky to have had children, because infertility is associated with PCOS, so my DH and I consider ourselves very lucky! I had ultrasounds of my ovaries to confirm that I had cystic ovaries, and I've had cysts rupture, which is painful. I went to the ER a few times and they confirmed that was what the pain was that I was experiencing. I wish you luck, and wish you well! Have you researched PCOS on the web? I'm sure there are many pages of information out there, and here's one that I found that has some basic information: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) For supper tonight, I had salad with homemade buttermilk dressing, some leftover steak, a few French fries, a milk shake, an apple, and a few fresh strawberries. And I am full! Teri, could you send some of that warm, sunny California weather this way, please? ![]() Have a wonderful evening, everyone! ![]() Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. ~Winston Churchill

Dana, I wasn't sure that my grocery stores would take them either, but the main store that I shop at does. They don't double them, but at least it's a savings. It was really windy here yesterday too!! And rainy and cold! But they are calling for nicer weather for the week's end, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Hi Ladies-
I fell off plan last night and I didn't do well today either. What is wrong with me? Why can't I stick with this. It's driving me bananas. Well tommorrow is a new day. I need some sunshine I think. It's been chilly and rainy here and I haven't been out much. Just feeling blah. Sorry to be a bummer. I'm glad you all are doing well. I am going to read the CALP book. Have a good night girls! |

Stephanie - thanks for the info. and for the link. I will check it out. I had never heard of it either, and I also read that it is a leading cause of infertility. Thank goodness for my twin DD's!
Cindy - can you tell me what a popcorn day is? When I initially started CAD years ago I ate only one meal a day (it wasn't balanced all the time either, this was before the CALD was written). I truly wasn't hungry when I woke up and I would typically eat my RM mid-day and again wouldn't be hungry. If I was I would have a snack of cheese and LC veg. It worked for me but I actually got too thin and my family was worried I wasn't eating enough! I think my belly shrank to the point that I didn't need that much food! Not sure I can give up my coffee! Baby steps! I do remember taking chromiun GTF. What does that do again? |

![]() Yes, I am one that goes back and forth between eating plans! I've tried several plans over the last 10 years and got real serious about losing weight October 2007. I started doing low carb, then more of a vegetarian type thing, then low sodium, then I found CAD - which I really loved. I tried the 1 CM and 1 RM a day and enjoyed it! However, I did get to 1 RM meal a day and lost 5 lbs. my first week. I continued that, and stopped losing. I just think I was eating too much and too late at that 1 meal a day. I then tried a few more things and March 1st started Weight Watchers. I needed something to hold me more accountable. I Love my friends here on this website - but I also like to meet with others in person and be weighed and hear success stories, tips and advice too. So, now I am doing my own combination of things - I follow WW points, but try to eat protein at each meal - and I have been having a sort of RM for dinner every night. Somedays, I do end up doing 1 meal a day RM - especially the day or two before my weigh in and it helps me so much to balance my meal and try to eat my biggest meal by about 4 or 5 pm. I hope that helps, when I get tired of something - or the scale hasn't moved in a bit, I change things up. So, when people ask me "how'd I lose the 55 lbs.?" I have to just tell them it's been a combination of things or I'd be there all day telling them all the things I tried. The most important thing to me is that when I do get bored or the scale doesn't move and I change things around again - is that it has REALLY helped me not go back to my OLD ways of eating and not exercising!

Steph, I love all kinds....mostly cold ones, sometimes a hot cereal. Thanks, I'm going to go see him tomorrow instead, they have plans for the week-end.
EmandM, It's where I eat just cereal and desert, sometimes I have toast or something. I don't balance or worry about that, I figure I add protein in there enough that I'm healthy with my eating style, actually, I'm doing what you used to do with cad when you lost, I love this way of eating cause it agrees with me and I feel the most in control with it. If I add in a cm, then I'm more hungry and will blow it for the day, I did 1 RM and 1 CM last year had had trouble staying on plan and the weight loss was too unpredictable! So once I made it to once a day, it was like it was made for me!! I did baby steps to get off pop, I was a bad pop drinker, starting in the morning just like it was my first cup of coffee, it got me going for the day!! Lucille, just keep trying and DON'T beat yourself up too much, it's just your body being out of balance. Try again and look back at what you ate for the day and try to pin point what it is. I thought I was getting cravings from green beans once and eggs, but come to find out, it was that second meal for me that was messing me up! So go diggin and see what you find. Maybe write everything down for a week and then look back at that. Hope that helps you........keep the faith, this works!!! ![]() It's late and I'm off to bed, see you in the morning, girls!!

Thanks for the encouraging words. Today is a new day and I will be on plan. I think I will write things down for a couple of weeks also, that's a good idea. I have some things to do this morning but I will check in later. Hi to all you ladies, have a good day! |

Coffee and wine
Now that I seem to have my hand out of the crackers, bread, candy, etc., it has certainly come to light that I love my wine and my coffee. I stop eating after 60 minutes.....for the most part but it is hard for me not to go back for a second glass (maybe third) of wine. Sitting down with my DH after the kids go to bed, it is just nice but my goal this week is to get on the wagon except for Friday (date night) I think about the coffee later
![]() I was pretty disappointed with such a small loss for the 1st week.

Jclairel, this is a new way of eating for you... if you are used to drinking lots of coffee, what I would recommend for you is just taking baby steps. I am one serious coffee drinker.... I drink it all day long. I read the Hellers' recommendation and, well, that's one that I just have to disregard! As far as you having a "small loss" your first week.. I know how that goes! But again, baby steps.. Our height/weight stats are so similar, (I'm a little over 5'11", and I'm in OH too!) it may take you awhile to get to your goal, but as long as you stick with this plan, you WILL get there. Stephanie and Cindy have been doing this for quite a while, and if you look at their stats and read their stories you will see that the CAD definitely works! I don't drink wine, so I didn't read anything about it in the book that stuck with me, but isn't a second glass okay during your RM? Hang in there!
Patty, thanks for asking... I am working from home and the hours that I have been getting the last couple of months have been in the middle of the night! It's not so bad once you get used to it; I just stayed up way too late last night! Stephanie, thanks! The wings were FABULOUS. We bought some wing sauce from Roosters (do you have Roosters there? Best wings EVER!) I also have PCOS. Other than the extra weight, there are some other effects that I'm not too happy about! I am so blessed to have 2 beautiful children.. my GYN told me when I was 15 years old not to ever expect to have children (because of the PCOS). Hmmm.. God had another idea, and I'm so glad! I lost 1.2 last night; so I'm a couple away from my stats weight now. I seem to fall off pretty hard on the weekends. One of these days I'm going to find my motivation again. In the meantime I'm just doing what I can do! Hi Flower, Lucille, Linda, Barbara, Teri, Cindy, EmandM, Briana... where are you, mikeysmommy? Please forgive this wiped-out brain if I forgot to mention you here... I haven't forgotten you! |

Good morning,
emandm, sorry to hear about your co-workers tragedy. This is the plan for me and the only time I changed was several years ago. I went off CALP because my main focus was to lose weight and I thought it was no longer working for me. Just recently I realized why I was maintaining and no longer losing weight on CALP. Over time I increased my food intake and my small bowl of ice cream that I was having once a week became a large bowl every night. Ice cream is definitely a weakness for me and I am now eating an ice cream bar since I am not in control of how much is on the stick and I know I can only eat one. I am finally in control of what I eat thanks to this plan and it feels terrific. Linda, it sounds as if you are doing very well recovering from your surgery. Wonderful news about the 1.2 lbs. and wishing for more good news on the outdoor biking. Dana, I hope you enjoyed your hot wings and American Idol. Good luck getting your nap. Stephanie, I am sorry to hear you are suffering from PCOS. DD#1 has been having female problems for awhile now and we are still trying to find out what is going on. I hope it warms up in PA soon. Lucille, since we only have control over our future and can't change the past, you will feel better about yourself if you get right back on plan. Think positive because you can and will be successful! flower, the ultimate goal is to lose weight. If changing plans and being able to stick to them help to keep us focussed on the weight loss, then you are achieving that goal. I was awakened this morning by an alarm that was going off at 6 a.m. Since I couldn't find the culprit this morning, I am going to ask DD#2 if it was her phone alarm when she gets up. I heard the alarm yesterday morning but ignored it since DH had already left for work. I got a sunburn yesterday traveling to my folks house. It has been so long since I rode in a convertible I wasn't even thinking about using sunblock. Once I discovered I was sunburned, I found some sunscreen and applied it for the way home. DD#2 and I had a very nice visit, they all loved her car, and we didn't get home until 7:30 p.m. We stopped at the store so I could get some steaks for dinner and I called DH and asked him to start the BBQ. I was in a hurry to eat since I hadn't eaten all day and I was starving. When I got home I unloaded the groceries and asked DH to start the asparagus while I made the salad. I really prefer to eat twice a day because I don't like to be that hungry. I was really tired last night but still worked out on the Bowflex. As soon as we were finished, I crashed out on the couch as soon as my head hit the pillow. Today is WATP so I will be getting it done this morning. DH is working from home today but I am not going to let it disrupt my plans to continue getting my house in order. I can't believe how much time it takes to go through things and decide what to get rid of and hope to have no regrets. My menu for yesterday included: CM: 2 cups of coffee CM: skipped RM: Salad w/ranch, Ribeye steak, asparagus w/mayo, and Haagan Das ice cream bar. I took my chromium since we stopped on the way out of town and bought some. I am having no trouble drinking plenty of water now that the weather has warmed up. Have a wonderful day!

Hi again!
I have been reading CALP and am highlighting some things for quick reference. I am going to pick up my GTF chromium this afternoon. I had a cm today of 3 ham and cheese roll ups with a little mayo and a cup of hot tea with 1/2 & 1/2 and a few drops of stevia. I just reread the chapter on artificial sweeteners in CALP and although stevia is not artificial it is sweet and apparently even anything sweet tasting regardless of calories/carbs causes a insulin release. I don't get cravings from it that I know of but I will just save it for my RM to be on the safe side. I am not going to make anymore declarations as to what I am doing as far as one meal a day or a CM and Rm or meal at supper or meal at noon because I have realized that I will be constantly tweaking this plan. I know that it is very important to keep a steady rythym with this plan and I intend to, but as soon as I declare this is my new "whatever plan fits here" I mess up. So I am not telling anyone (except you ladies) what I am doing for a while, at least until I am fully grounded in this plan. I need to stay focused I know that, and stay with it, and pray for strength when temptation hits. Hope everyone is having a great day, I was a little bummed out last night. I feel better today. I realized I really have a problem with not eating when others are. I have to get over that. I have a question, is American cheese allowed for our CM? I know it has more carbs than regular cheese. I used that for my roll ups today. I feel fine and don't have any cravings. If anyone knows, TIA! I will try to look for it in one of the books too. Well ladies I am going to enjoy some sunshine today even though it isn't warm, at least it's sunny. Have a good day!

I think it is amazing how well this plan and other low carb plans work for pcos. My midwife thought I had it, I had all the bloodwork and ultrasounds and they all came back normal. It was my thyroid. It is interesting how a lot of hypothyroid symptoms are the same as PCOS, for me anyway.
Hi Dana and Teri! Hi jclairel, I think that with the coffe thing it's an indivual experience. I know in CAD Rachael drank coffee outside of the RM. I would think with the wine as long as it is in the hour your okay. |

Hi ladies!
Terri - thanks for the kind words. The co-worker lost her 15-year-old son over the weekend in a tragic freak accident. He was playing Lacrosse and he stopped, turned around and another player ran into him (he couldn't stop) and the way his helmet hit him was fatal. So, so sad. JclaireL - I drink coffee all day too! I drink it with Splenda and milk (once a day) or cream (the rest of the time). I can't give it up either, but it doesn't seem to affect my progress. I think test things out and see what works. You should be able to drink that second cup of wine (or 3rd - lol) as long as it is in your RM. Hope this helps. LucilleMcGill - They are testing me for hypothyroid too. My main symptoms are: hair loss (major shedding, abnormally so), I had to take Accutane for acne on my neck (and now my skin is amazing - lol), weight gain (3 pounds in a week, but that should get back in check with CAD), crazy period issues and feeling lethargic. We shall see what the test results show, but they are thinking thyroid issues, PCOS or another hormonal imbalance. ETA - Flower - I think it's human nature to jump from plan to plan, even when things are working! It will take me awhile to get to know everyone, so I will say hi to everyone for now, even if I don't respond to every post! I am teaching right now (well, it's recess) so I have to hurry! Hi all!
Just got back from the grocery store -- I had forgotten to get crumbled blue cheese because I'm out of blue cheese dressing. So I made another batch and it's sitting in the fridge. Oh, EmandM, that's a tradgedy for your coworker -- how awful! I'm sorry for your coworkers tragic loss. Best of wishes to you for your health, M! I hope the doctors are able to correct your problems. Dana, no, we don't have a Roosters here, but you're making my mouth water!! I bet they were awesome! The doctor wanted to remove one of my ovaries when I was younger (before I was married and before I was diagnosed with PCOS) and thankfully my mom insisted on other opinions! I think I remember the reason that she (the doc) wanted to remove my ovary was because it was full of cysts and she didn't think it was functioning. Again, thankfully my dearly beloved mom got me away from her and took me to another doctor who treated me. And like you, I was told it was "iffy" if I could have kids, but thankfully God had other plans!~ ~Hi Lucille! Hang in there, friend! I know how discouraging it can be, but like Teri said, today is a new day, and the past is just that -- the past. Take this one day at a time, one meal at a time. We're here for you! ![]() ~When the world says, "Give up," Hope whispers, "Try it one more time." ~Author Unknown ![]() Teri, I'm envious of your sunburn! It sounds like you had a wonderful time! And by the way, I think your daughter's artwork is beautiful!! She has amazing talent!Flower, I'm proud of you! And I know you'll reach your goal in no time! Keep up the good work! ![]() Hi MommaPatty -- where are you today? Hello to all of you other fine folks too! I've got to run for now....see you soon! |

Hi Everyone! Not much time right now so another quickie! I talked with the dr. this morning (annual exam) and he asked if I had been biking yet. I told him I just went once and said since I am restricted on lifting things and there are too many hills I can't do much till I get the ok from the surgeon tomorrow.
He said that bikers and runners always want to know how soon they can get out there again and normal people like that they have an excuse to sit and do nothing! So I asked when I can go again! He laughed! He said it should be ok on the flat roads for now. And I'll get more info from the surgeon tomorrow. The new pool is being installed tomorrow! We won't be able to use it for a few weeks yet but it will be ready to go once it's warm enough! Then I can get some pool exercises done! Food is great and I've been doing some time on the indoor bike when I can. I better get back to the chores I have waiting for me! |

Patty,I hope you feel better real soon.
Linda, bet you will enjoy your pool. I'm glad you are doing so well. Hope you can get back to your normal bike rides soon. Hi Judy, how are you? Stephanie, thank you for your kind words. I love that quote. EmandM, I hope that you get some answers for your health problems. Today was a great day. I stayed on plan and did the 1 mile WATP dvd. I almost got all my water in for the day and I am sure I will have drank it all by bedtime. So today was very good, I was praying too, to stay on track. Here's today's menu: CM ~ 3 ham and cheese roll-ups w/ mayo. RM ~ salad with tomatoes, cukes, cheddar cheese and french dressing, 1 serving of spaghetti and meat sauce, brussel sprouts, bread and butter pickles and toast with cream cheese and apple butter. It was very good, and I walked right afterwards. I read that walking after your meal helps with your blood sugar. Well better go clean up and do some sewing. Have a good night girls. |
