Another miracle to report here as well. We got Mom (Jean) home today and in her bed and she's resting comfortably. Everybody is pretty well exhausted, including her, but at least we got her home and that made her happy. Hospice came and got all the admit paperwork done and now we start a whole new mindset as far as Mom's medical needs go. It'll be hard to get used to after 16 years of many meds and doctor visits. She's fought a long, hard battle and she's tired and ready to go to her final home now.
Thanks again, my friends for all your prayers and support. Carolyn, I'm so glad Betty's weather turned out for her. This was the day for miracles I guess.

Prozak: Okay, we all love our Barry and his book is so well written and easy to understand.
Glad you are joining "his" harem.. Congrats on your weight loss!!!!!!!!!!!Mary Kay: Yup..I did get my miracle! My minlaw never wanted to go out in the rain without that dreaded rain bonnet on, so when I saw the rain coming down, I knew Betty would not be pleased..Being buried in the rain would not be her choice, so it didn't happen. Hey, she looked really, really good. But, she looked so horrible the last few weeks, it was actually nice to see her "hair done, makeup on, etc. Sandy: How wonderful for you and your mom. Being home in her own bed will make a huge difference in how things will go for her. And, your dad will be lots happier. Hospice is a totally different way of looking at medical care, I think. Is your mom going to go to the hospital if necessary? Betty said she didn't want to do that and neither did we. God Bless You all... ![]()

Morning!
OK, popularity is one thing - killing your parents is another! DS19 had another group of kids over last night! ![]() Totally different kids! They stayed in the sunroom, which would be fine, but it's right under my bedroom and the movie they had on was a little noisy! They did leave by 11:30, but if I'm getting up at 5:30 every day, I need more sleep that that! Anyway - one big for everything!Did I mention I'm annoyed? Sandy - that's wonderful!! Carolyn - ![]() |

I'm so, so happy the sunshine came out for Betty! That just makes my day, knowing that.
And Sandy, I'm so relieved and happy for your mom to be home, in her own bed. Isn't that what most of us would want, in her shoes? I know it's my own choice, and I bet it has taken a huge weight off her, and off all of you who love her and want her to have some peace as she faces this. Hospice will be a blessing, I know. Being cared for by people who show such love and compassion makes this part of life so much more joyful, really. The whole experience is a homecoming in more ways than one. Zilla, I feel your pain. LOL Jeff and Danny played Doom (they've played pretty much every such game over the years.) I'm not a gamer, but I'll tell ya, I recognize the music, the groans and screams and guns and what have you, from all of them. Headphones are a good option -- Jeff and Danny would wear them sometimes. But after a while the headphones make their ears hurt, so I have to listen to death and destruction anyway... Of course, I'm not usually doing work at the time. That would make it much worse! Good luck, girl... Hello to all of you, btw! Today looks like it will be fair and cool, and I'm hoping to get out and enjoy some of it. Danny won't be enjoying it, alas, as he's got to mow the yard, which always makes him puff up like a toad from the allergies. We have claritin on hand, but it doesn't seem to help a lot. Don't know what else we might be able to keep around that would do a better job. The allergies seems especially bad this spring, I notice. |

Carolyn, how beauitufl that the sun came out for Betty. It is really so touching.
Sandy-I am so happy for your mother that she is now home. Hope you all can get lots of rest now. Zilla-OMG, you make me laugh so hard, ADD Mom and autistic son combo! You ahve such a wonderful sense of humor how you look at things! Hi to everyone else, I am here off and on, new computer doesnt recognize LCF or send me emails that people have posted. Plus I am doing this new eating plan and I it isnt LC so much so I am afraid and it is almost painful to come here or the ML and see people losing weight. Basically, my metabolism may be messed up so I am presently eating a lot of protein to gain back some muscle I HAVE lost and keeping cals at 1500, we'll see what happens. Apparently I may have been exercising too much and not taking in enough calories to support the exercise if that makes sense. I cant seem to get anything right diet and exercise wise these days. So, I have givcen up trying and have put myself in the hands of a trainer and we'll see what happens. I schedule my carbs aroud my workouts, eat my protein and the fats fill in to add up to almost 1500 cals.

Hi ladies,
Back to "normal" today. Gary stayed home to recuperate. We are doing our thank yous..Best to get them done right away, I think. I'm also thawing my freezer. Betty would be proud of me..It just needed organization and some of the frost build-up removed. Mary Kay and Zilla: Noisey boys? LOLOL..My brother had a drum set when he was a teenager and a band..You like them to have fun, but you also like to be able to think or sleep. Headphones is a great idea..(for him). Lil: Never feel that you can't come here...............we love you and want you to feel welcome no matter what you are doing. Maybe building up your protein is a good thing..and we have read that too much exercise/not enough calories is like being on a starvation diet. Hope you find your balance.. Lene: Yup, we know about allergies down here, too. Grass can be a killer..especially after a rain it seems so much worse. I am going through Betty's clothes after Gary goes back to work. I might keep a top or two for exercising, but will give the rest away to Good Will..Luckily, she wasn't a clothes horse.. Moretta: You will love Barry's book. It is a real "keeper" for health and weight loss. Sandy: How is Jean today? Proud mom moment..Brett (ds20) will be a jr. next year at KState..He got a 3.6 this semester in his Mechanical Engineering Cir..(keeps scholarship). He was slightly disappointed that he didn't get one more A in Thermal Dynamics, but he took a job grading papers and didn't have tons of extra time for studying. End of proud mom moment...thanks for indulging me. |

Aww, I love proud mom moments!
Lil, don't go away! You just eat what you need to eat, and we'll all be happy for you. I don't think there's a one of us would have you feel unwelcome here, even if you ate 5,000 carbs a day. And maybe your body is in need of extra protein to rebuild, so you just do what you need to do for your health. I tried the recipe for the coconut flour cheddar biscuits, and heavens, are they good! A very bit hit with me and the kid, and I'm sure Jeff will love them after he gets home tonight. I used only 3 eggs since the ones I have are jumbos, and I added a scoop (1/3 cup, I believe?) whey protein powder to my batter before adding the cheese, as it looked a bit runny. I dolloped the stuff out into the 6 wells of my brand-spankin' new muffin top pan, and baked at 400 for 15 minutes. They're perfect! They spread out to fill the wells of the pan perfectly, and the taste and texture are just right. I think we'll use these for burger buns from now on. Yay for LCF! I keep finding these wonderful recipes here... Last edited by lene : 05-28-2008 at 12:29 PM. Reason: spelling gremlins |

My momma passed away at 1:30 this morning. She seemed to rally right after we brought her home but it didn't last very long. She went very quickly and without any pain or discomfort. She told my dad she loved him, he told her he loved her and then she just quit breathing. She's in a much better place and with many of her loved ones again. We're having visitation tomorrow night and the funeral Friday morning. My brother is preaching her funeral. I hope he can make it through it ok. That's what my mom wanted. I'm exhausted and am headed to bed. I only got about 1 hour of sleep before I got the call and haven't rested any today. It's been a very rough day, as you can imagine. |

Oh, Sandy..I'm so sorry for you and your family, especially your dad. But, you know that God is good and didn't allow her to suffer much more. This is a good thing for her, but difficult on the family. We will pray for your brother that he can get through his sermon.
Hugs and much love to you.. |

Oh Sandy! I'm so, so sorry! I'm happy for her that she was able to be at home, and was able to tell your dad goodbye and that she loved him. That surely meant worlds to her, and to him. I know you must be dazed and numb right now. Much love to you.
And Carolyn, hope you and your family are doing ok. This time is so darned *hard*, isn't it? Even when you know it is a welcome and natural passing from one part of life to another, it just hurts and you have to work to get by day to day. I'm thinking of all of you, and Sandy and her family, and everyone else here in our group struggling to get through the daily losses and griefs. We're sure lucky we have friends who care how we're doing, aren't we? Lil, you aren't gonna give us any more talk about leaving, now are you? I'll follow you around the internets and nag at you til you come back, if you do! <g> I'm grateful for this group. I don't know how a handful of people I've never actually met could feel like such good friends, but you do. It makes my day better having this site, and this group, to visit. I'm actually going to get back in the habit of using fitday to track calories and such. I hate the hassle of it all, but after reading the posts about BMR, I feel maybe I need to get serious about this. Not sure if I think I've somehow inadvertently been eating too *many* calories (which seems doubtful, since I've fallen into the habit of not eating when not hungry, and I'm just never hungry) or if I'm simply eating too few calories and have shut down my metabolism. But either way, tracking things on fitday will give me the info I need. But I'm going to allow myself to not fret about trying to figure out data for the foods I occasionally eat that don't have nutritional info available, or recipes I find that don't have the info. That's the part that I always hated the most about using fitday, so if I don't worry about that and simply track for the days when I can enter the info easily (which will be most of the time) then I can get the gist of what I'm doing. Should be enough to help me get back on track. |

Barry pretty much slams the whole idea of counting calories in his book... there are 3 major flaws in that theory.
pg 171: first flaw: our bodies do not burn calories the same way they are burned in calorimeters. second flaw: the body does not use all of it's food for energy third flaw: 'a calorie is a calorie' is flawed, there is more than 1 law of thermodynamics, and this whole calories in / calories out is based on 1 law of thermodynamics. it might comply with the first law, but it totally violates the second law. Barry said to watch the carbs like a hawk, if you are not losing weight, lower your carbs and increase your fat until you are. I am down SIX POUNDS ladies, and it all came off in the last 9 days (actually 4 since Sunday) and I am never hungry nor am I ever over stuffed And I have energy coming out of every pore! (and TOM is due any day now).his book is the most valuable tool I have ever owned, and i am thankful ![]() |
