Thanks for the responses to my question, but I was looking more for each person's personal experience. I do have the book and know what Lyle says about it. Just like anything else I am just going to experiment and see what happens! I don't have to worry about doing too much cardio since I hate it, but I do enjoy lifting and body weight exercises.

Shamrock-Believe me it was a bit difficult to resist the cookies, it will be even harder tonight after I frost them with some buttercream frosting!!

Eating today:

Coffee w/ ff half and half
Yogurt with protein powder (I know we aren't supposed to eat yogurt due to the high carbs, but I need a break from cottage cheese!)
Collards and onions and chicken and egg white patty w/ cheese and salsa

I have a dinner meeting tonight and we will be having brisket and all of the yummy things that go with that. I should be able to just stick with salad and meat.

Nill - Per the monthly Callanetics thread it is best to take a day off in between session so your muscles can rest and rebuild. I would think that 3 - 4 times a week would be optimal.

The weather is "finally" nice around here, and I had a GOOD day. First in a while now....I have no experience with exercise in combo with intense dieting, as I've been very sedentary for several years now due to my health issues. My weight "is" doing crazy things this round, but then it's taken me a while to dial in exactly what I should do about free meals and refeeds, to make this work. Maybe I've been doing too much, don't know.

I've been measuring inches, but I'm not losing in the places I would like to, my waist and belly. I "am" losing in places I'm not measuring though. I have a white gore-type skirt that is fitting me much better in the hips. I don't have as sharp of a bulge there as I used to. And my extra-large tee-shirts are literally hanging on me. My thighs look thinner. So I know I'm getting smaller, even if the scale doesn't agree much.

Thanx guys for your vote of confidence in my blogging. And yeah, I "do" have Atkinites that tend to attack me for doing things (saying things in my blog) that they consider either wrong or unhealthy. Same with my egroups. I don't hardly comment on them anymore either, cuz they all want me to up my calories, up my fats, up up up everything to less than a 500 calorie deficit. Can you imagine just how long it would take me to get the rest of my weight off with only a 300-calorie deficit???

I don't mind differences of opinion, or getting corrected when my info is wrong. That's fine. And I'm particularly grateful for that. Especially when someone can point me in a direction where I can study something out, a link or what have you. I like to hear about what others believe or are doing that's different.

I just don't like folks "demanding" that I do things their way. Badgering me over and over I guess you'd say. Getting in their little "digs" about my diet style. Or keep repeating the "you're going to go into starvation mode" mantra. It gets really tedious, if you know what I mean, always having to defend yourself.

What's most interesting though is Dr. Mike Eades' latest blog post. It's called "Low Carb and Calories" or something like that. And it really blows holes in what a lot of them are saying.

He very strongly said (over and over in his comments section) that in his experience most folks "under" report what they actually eat, (just as Lyle is always saying), and that if you aren't losing weight on low carb, you need to cut out the snacks, especially high fat calorie dense stuff. Cuz you're probably eating too much. Too many calories.

Now...there's also the opposite problem. Like what I did to myself, not knowing any better. Going too low, or lower and lower for weeks and months at a time to keep things moving downwards. Because your body "adapts" to the lower intake. But then...that's what the refeeds and diet breaks are all about. Upregulating stuff.

I think I'm going to do a blog post about it, cuz he really, really stressed in both his post and his comments section that you "have" to create a deficit to lose. It isn't true that low Insulin levels set up a situation where you have to burn fat if you keep your carbs low. Even though that's what most low carbers will try to tell you. That carbs are the only things that matters.

Low Insulin levels opens the door to your fat cells, but if you're eating enough calories to support all of your bodily needs, you won't burn that stored body fat. No need to.

Day 1: 180.4
Day 6: 174.4
Day 13: 172.2
Day 20: 175.2
Day 27: 172.4
Day 34: 172.6

Day 35: 173.8
Day 36: 175
Day 37: 172.2
Day 38: 172 VT
Day 39: 172

Holding steady today, but 171 did "flash" me. Didn't stick though. Maybe tomorrow. Or maybe I won't gain as much weight back when I go on my diet break this weekend as I gained before. I've heard of folks finally losing their excess water after the diet cycle is over, so maybe that'll be me too. At least...I can hope.

I'm with everyone else about starting a new thread come June. I think a monthly thread would be great.

Good Morning, all. I had another whoosh! Yay! Now, if I can stick to plan this weekend, I'll be golden. No FMs on the horizon, unless my sis and I decide to eat out after we see Sex & the City tomorrow. We haven't decided which showing we're going to.

I need to get to the grocery store today for some essentials: chicken, eggs, FF dairy stuff, etc. We're supposed to have a nice weekend here, so I'll be getting more yard work done, hopefully.

Vickie: I haven't read Dr. Eades blog lately. Don't know why I forget to do that all the time. I'll get up to date today at lunchtime. And I'll be checking out your blog, too.

Good morning- TGIF!!!

Janamonkey- sounds like you had a good time, but know when to quit- which I will have to learn when I finally make it to goal-

Lioness- thanks for all of your insight- there was a good post yesterday where someone, I don't remember who or where it was, but they were saying the same thing, that low carb may work for most people at first, but, then you definitely need to make sure that calorie deficit is there- like I said before, I remember also when low carb was all I had to worry about- I never ever thought about calories or fat, and I did lose pretty good, but that is simply not the case anymore- and now that I have been paying attention, the weight is finally starting to come off- 8 lbs in the past month- I am very satisfied with that! Down to 217 this morning!! Also, am wearing some jeans that I actually forgot about and dared to try them on and they fit!

Gibster- good for you- you're doing great!

Well, I have decided that I will be very regimented during the week, trying to drink only 3 protein shakes per day, and let up a little on the weekend- still keeping low fat/cal/carb, but upping everything a little- I need to feel like I have some freedom on the weekend or this won't work for me- and it will help me to be all the better during the work week- so, that is my plan from now on-

Ok- everyone have a wonderful weekend and take care!!

Hello folks~ and you got it shamrock....TGIF. hubby comes home today after two months...so i'm pretty ecstatic. He wants "finger foods" for dinner, which usually translates into a "variety of junk food", but i am going to try and make it with a healthier spin, and then use the opportunity for a free meal for the week.

You know vickie, i think i did the same exact thing when i first started this journey, and took my calorie count way too low. I felt really bad by the end of the first week, and as you can see, I've gained this week...but I've been eating more...and feeling better. I've also added 5-HTP and calcium/magnesium as supplements, and a liquid B-Complex in addition to the other 50 pills(multi, fish oil, EC) i take daily. I am a walking pharmacy.

Tori~sorry i couldn't give you any personal experience with the exercise...as I just (literally yesterday) started myself. I am going to do the Callanetics...didnt do the AM this morning, as I feel like I pulled a muscle that ran from my butt through my stomach...lol. I may do them this evening though. hubby is hooking up a dvd player for me in the xtra bedroom this weekend so i have my own space to do this and dont have to feel like a dork with ppl watching me.

Nice loss again Gib! woohoo! BTW, I mixed up some SF lemon Jello with my FF ricotta this morning...I have it sitting in the fridge waiting for me for later! It smelled really good. I did 1552 rotations on my Wii Fit super duper hoola hooper last night...lol...what a ball. Did the rhthym boxing as well...I really enjoyed that too.

WB Jana!

I will go ahead then and start the June, since its the 30th. Early, but I don't want to get busy and forget!

Have a great friday everyone!

Hey everyone I am up in weight today I had a dentist appointment yesterday and rode my bike there, then to work, then to a meeting, then back to work, then home. So, all in all, about 20 miles. I won't be doing that again on this diet, it was insane and I ended up over eating protein and some extra carbs. Anyway, I needed it so I am not feeling guilty about it at all. And today my legs are so sore I can't walk barely LOL.

Good morning ladies! TGIF!!

Linda - I am so jealous...I love Sex and the City, but live in a small town that has only 1 movie theater. I doubt that it comes here so I will have to go out of town to see it. Waiting for it to come out on video is NOT an option!!

I read Dr. Eades' blog about carbs and calories as well. Calories are important no matter what diet you are on. I have really tried to start measuring calories dense foods this year. It is really easy to over do it on the cheese and nuts!!

I am down again this morning after a scale adjustment. I have an old one that has the little knob on the bottom that you have to adjust to "0".

Day 1 - 139
Day 2 - 138
Day 3 - 137.5
Day 4 - 137

I was bad last night and had a roll, apple cobbler and a few bites of beans, but it didn't seem to bother me. I think the extra carbs helped since I have been exercising more. The big thing for me has been avoiding the late night sweets which I have been successful in doing this week. I even did it last night with freshly iced sugar cookies in the fridge!

Have a great Friday everyone!

Well, since it's still May, I figured I needed to get my last day of the month post in, before we all switch over to the June thread--especially since today winds up my diet round. Been doing this 6 weeks now, so I'm looking forward to my 2 week break.

I didn't have to work today, since the kids had some kind of outing, but my husband came home early with his back out. So we went by a couple of yard sales, then stopped by to see the chiropractor. He works out of his home, and since he wasn't answering the phone, we decided to just go on over, which is why we stopped at yard sales along the way. We both got put back in place, so all is well with the world again!

Went shopping for all of the stuff I need for my diet break. So now I have chicken wings to go with all of my regular meats that I already have, (I'll be making hot wings and chicken curry for lunches with them, since my husband doesn't like very hot stuff) plus lots of fruit and veggies. A nice sized sweet potato that my husband and I will share. Some cream cheese for Alfredo. It's funny, but coming from a low-carb background, some of my favorite foods are high-calorie, low carb stuff.

I hit a new low today, so I'm ending the round on a nice weight: 171!!! So I'm down 9.4 pounds for the 6 weeks. Won't know how much of that was actually fat though, not for a few days, till the water settles. Hoping for 5 pounds.

This morning I noticed that I'm losing fat "above" my waist. Plus my water percentage on the scale was even higher than it has been--can't rely on the fat percentage till my water level comes back down to around 5.2 or so. That's where it was when I first started this round. Water retention messes with the fat percentage numbers, as well as dehydration.

Day 1: 180.4
Day 6: 174.4
Day 13: 172.2
Day 20: 175.2
Day 27: 172.4
Day 34: 172.6
Day 40: 171

Well, I'm up a bit today, but it was expected so i'm not too worried. really dehydrated, had a couple glasses of wine last night with the husband.

Found a recipe for LC egg rolls...rolled in napa cabbage, as opposed to egg roll wrappers, so i'll be making those in a little while (using Gr. Chix), and also i'll make some little meatballs, with gr. pork, and 93/7 lean gr. beef.

picked up a new PP at the vitamin shop yesterday...Jay Robbs Vanilla. only 110 calories, 1 carb, and 25g protein, per serving....sweetened with stevia, as opposed to things like sucralose or maltodextrin...took a bit of searching but i'm glad i found it.

Yikes on the bike riding jana! your poor legs!!!

I'm hoping to get in a full hour of callentics today...welll see.

WTG on your VT Vickie!, enjoy your break! I'll be interested to see what kinds of foods you like to eat on your break.
