ok-

The store didn't sell bronkaid- so, I ogd what I hope is right- but it says pseudoephedrine hcl 30 mg- is that the same thing? They did have to get it from behind the counter- it is prescribed as a nasal decongestant- well, there is no way to split it and that is the lowest dosage they had, so I took a whole one with 100 mg caffeine- maybe I'll be extra efficient at my second job tonight!

I think WE (and I'm including myself in this) have to be careful that we aren't confusing "weight" loss with "fat" loss though. It's nice to see the numbers on the scale initially move downwards quickly, but that quickness is generally glycogen/water. Not fat. Fat takes a much longer time to get rid of. So once we reach that depleted point, or almost depleted point, we kindda stumble a bit, wondering "what" is happening.
Very good point Lioness!

Lioness-thank you. My , you are a wealth of empowering information. I think a lot of us get "set" on a train of thought and don't want to go outside of that "comfort zone", ya know?

Shamrock - pseudoephedrine is not the same thing. I know I read that somewhere in Lyle's book or on his forum. I do take that stuff when my sinuses act up. It is a stimulant, but I don't think it's as strong as ephedrine.

Good Morning, all. And a good morning it is! A mini-whoosh for me! So, after a couple of false starts (when I was getting the hang of this WOE), I'm down 8 lbs total.

Yesterday morning, my boss snuck out of the office and went to Target to pick up 2 Wii Fit's - one for her, one for me. What fun!! I'll be "playing" with that every day.

Day 1 236.8
Day 7 234.6
Day 14 230.4

Day 15 229.6 FM
Day 16 231
Day 17 230.2
Day 18 230.4
Day 19 228.8

Morning! well, down .5 this morning. Was wishing for a nice little whoosh, but I will certainly take what I can get. I am trying to keep my focus on my body changes vs. changes on the scale but we all know that is easier said than done. I haven't had any free meals this week and decided that I am going to save it all up for Sunday which is my dd 2nd birthday party. Going to make good choices but will treat it as a bit of a free day. I think I am getting closer to Catagory 2 now anyways which would allow me refeeds.

For those of you that exercise/workout~ how often do you and do you try to burn any particular amount of cals? For instance, I do strength training about 3 times a week- I don't think so much about the calories burned but rather toning up but when doing cardio (about twice a week on the treadmill) my goal is try to burn about 135-150 calories. I figure since I am always around 575 calories that I probably shouldn't burn much more than that for fear of messing up my metabolism or something. Any thoughts??

Thanks Gibster- and congratulations on the WHOOSH! that is awesome-

so, I guess I will have to go back out and try to find the ephedrine.....I did take the pseudoephedrine this am with the caffeine, and I am still tired- worked too much yesterday...

I'm back down to 221 this am- so, still hoping to get out of the 220's before saturday!

Ddailey- All I have been doing is trying to get some walking in- I just don't have the time to do anything else- I know that a lot of people say that, but, it is just too much for me- so, I park far away and it is a 10 min. walk each way, they I try to walk 30 min. at lunch, and try to find the time in the evening to walk the dogs- this weekend they will go camping with me and we will hike for exercise-

I am sticking to the protein shakes today- for some reason, I feel less hungry when I drink them-

Have a great day everybody- I'll check in later

Indeed....but then again, I'm starting out very heavy, I probably have quite a ways to go before i hti a leveling off point I would think.

I've been working this plan very hard, the way it was written, and will admit I am tired. While I have a goal weight in mind...I also have a goal "look and feel" if that makes sense. I have a suspicion that I will reach my goal look and feel prior to getting close to my goal weight.

I am going to have a FM this weekend, over the holiday.

Hi Nill4me-

that is incredible- 12 lbs in 6 days! we are around the same weight- how tall are you? I only want to get down to around 170- I am 5'8"- no super tall, but 170 would be very thin for me-

Well, I finally found the bronkaid at the drug store- geez- they make you feel like your a criminal doing something wrong buying it- I am going to try it later this afternoon- probably around 2 pm- I have a lot to do after work, so hopefuly it will give me some energy!

Danielle - Here is what Lyle says in his RFL book:

Why doesn’t exercise improve the total rate of weight loss? The reason is one of simple mathematics and reality. Under most dieting conditions, unless a tremendous amount or a very high intensity of exercise can be done such that a very large amount of additional calories are burned, exercise simply fails to have much of an impact.

....while exercise may not greatly affect the total amount of weight lost on a diet, it can affect the composition of what is lost, that is fat versus LBM. Depending on a host of variables, including the type and amount of exercise and the extent of the diet, some studies find that exercise (weight training more so than aerobic exercise) can alter the proportion of what is lost: more fat and less LBM are lost. In beginners at least, it’s not uncommon to gain LBM while losing fat. So even if total weight loss is the same (or slightly decreased), more fat is lost in the exercising group. Assuming your goal is fat loss and not just weight loss, exercise shouldn’t generally be seen as detrimental. That is, even if your total weight loss ends up being decreased because you’re exercising, a greater fat loss more than balances it out.

As well, there are other potential benefits of exercising on a diet. Some studies indicate that exercise can help to prevent some of the metabolic slowdown that occurs with dieting. Please note that a great deal of research finds no such effect but it depends heavily on the type and amount of activity and how extreme the diet is. As well, some studies find that exercise helps dieters stick with their diet, adherence to the diet can be improved with the addition of exercise. At least within the context of the rapid fat loss program, this is probably one of the most important reasons to include it.

Basically, if you want to create an extremely large caloric deficit through food restriction, you absolutely must not do too much activity (folks who have followed the diet in this book have found this out the hard way, by ignoring my recommendations below and doing too much activity, they slowed their fat and weight loss). If you want to do a lot of activity, you cannot cut calories too severely. Again, I know this doesn’t make much sense and I’m still trying to pin down the mechanisms of why this happens. But the simple fact is that it does and if you want to avoid problems, you must follow the recommendations .....

Frankly, weight training a maximum of 2-3 times per week is going to be the best form of exercise on the rapid fat loss plan. A small amount of low intensity aerobic activity (I mean brisk walking), if it helps with diet adherence is acceptable as well.

Hi Shamrock,
Just a suggestion if this is your first time taking the bronkaid I would make sure you cut the tablet in half and probably would be better off trying it in the morning rather than 2pm. I know it kept me awake at night the first few days. Good luck it really does help with appetite control too.

HI Jean-

OOOpps- I just took it a few minutes ago....you know, I am not very effected by coffee etc. I am the type of person that could drink a pot of coffee and not be effected by it...we'll see what happens. If it is ok, I will do it twice tomorrow....I think this will really help me, I have had my thyroid checked etc. and there is no problem, but i have other symptoms, like always have a very low body temperature- it is always well below normal, and I remember reading somewhere that was an indication of a slow metabolism.... so time will tell if this helps

Shamrock,
Have you read the thread about thyroid testing by nonstickpam it goes into the BEST tests to ask you dr. for. Evidently the standard tsh test most drs. order often misses many cases of hypothyroidism. Good luck with the bronkaid. Jeanie

Hi Shamrock~
I am 41yrs old, and ab out 5'6". To be honest, I'm pretty amazed at what I'm seeing myself. I'm keeping a close eye on it, and how I feel, so that I don't get some weird healt related issues...I do all the supplements though, so i should be good there. I tried on a pair of dress pants last night that i have not worn in ages because they were too snug, and they fit! And looked pretty good. I'm really happy about that.

I've had weight issues virtually my whole life. I lost quite a bit of weight when i was (way) younger...by limiting food intake...much like this, but without the knowledge i have now via boards like this, the internet, and lyle's book.

Conceptually, when you look at charts, my "healthy" weight is supposed to be around 130. i don't think I will ever hit that, and don't know that I want to. I think for me, I would be comfortable around 150...depending on how my weight is distributed of course. Who knows...its been so long since I weighed 150 i don't even know what it looks like on me anymore!! LOL

Hang in there...I really believe that if you work the plan, the plan will work for you.

I'm not doing any type of exercise right now....and things are going well. My plan, is that as the weight comes down, and slows down, I will incorporate some of the weight training in that I read about in Lyle's book...to build up more muscle. Until then, my exercise will come from my WII

Nil~ do you mind posting some of your menus as of lately!! I know you mentioned that some of the weight coming off is from your recent trip, but even so, your weight loss has been very impressive!! Any exercise involved.

Linda~ thanks! I know that Kyle recommends not over doing it. I have been using my 30 day shred video (20 minutes) as a means of weight training (although its really 3 circuits of 3 minute strength/2 minutes cardio/1 minute abs) and then brisk walking on the treadmill (only about a mile at a time) a couple times a week. As of lately though with all the work I was doing outdoors I was cutting down on any additional exercise. Hard to wrap your brain around the idea of less exercise if more beneficial.

Shamrock~ Glad you finally found the bronkaid!! I really thought they were going to ask for personal references and to draw a blood sample too before I was finally able to buy mine!

Anyone have excited plans for the upcoming long weekend?? As I've mentioned we have my dd b-day party on Sunday. Need to get everything together and ready on Sat., as well as making her cake. Then Monday will be used to put the house back togehter before daycare kiddos come back on Tuesday. Also have my stepson and his 2 siblings (no real relation to me or DH but part of the package deal )coming up for the weekend which doubles the number of kids to feed and tend to..should be eventful!

HI-

Yes I am here a lot today...Nill- I will be 41 in a few months, so we are pretty comparable with our situations-

Well, I did take the whole bronkaid and caffein pill- I also noticed that I suddenly felt kind of warm, that was weird, but I am a little more alert, but not shaky or anything like that....

Well Ddailey- it sounds like you're going to be busy- I am just taking my dgt and dogs camping at a national forest, and do some hiking, and maybe some swimming... probably she will swim but I think it will be too cold for me- the dogs love to swim - but it has to be much warmer for me- I have to try to pack food to stick to plan for the weekend- but would like to at least have a hotdog cooked over the campfire-

Ok ladies- going for a walk now- check in later

Danielle - it looks like you are doing the exercise thing just right.

Nill - I was simply amazed by the Wii Fit last night (even tho I had the balance board placed the wrong way ) You do the body test first - enter your height and age, then the system displays your BMI and weight (it even made my Mii gain weight to match ). Then you set a goal, and do the activities. It keeps track of your activity minutes, and the other data so you can see your progress. It is sooooo much fun. Who'da thunk this 59-year-old would be doin' the Wii! You'll love it!

Hi everyone

I am sick sick sick today. UGH. Puking all night, and now I am work because my manager is out of town and I have to run things. At least I'm alone with the dogs so I can kind of zone out.

I'll be back to dieting when I feel better. I HOPE it's soon.

Gosh, sorry to hear that you're sick Jana. Hope you get to feeling better soon. I hate puking more than anything...even pain is more tolerable for me. And yet...wouldn't you know it, but when I was preggo with 3 of my 4 sons I was sick like that 24/7 for 7 out of the 9 months!

I hear ya about not wanting to leave our comfort zones. We "say" we're open minded, but most of us really aren't. We want so badly for things to be the way we want to believe.

Well, the weather seems to be clearing up, so it isn't going to be as bad for me this weekend, as we had originally thought. I am sooooo glad. Because my water percentage (which indicates "serious" water retention) is up higher than it's ever been since I got my tanita-like digital scale a few months ago. Frankly, I'm very surprised I'm even able to function!!!

I think I might have mentioned this before, but since the subject came up, I do 3 Full Body Workouts a week now. I flipped my exercise routine since workouts are more important than aerobics, I think. I can only do one complete set of 15 of Lyle's Beginner's Exercise Guide. But for me, that's a real accomplishment. Especially the bird thingies. That one gives my "balance" a workout, as well as my bod.

I don't actually count my calories when I exercise, but I looked it up on line somewhere (can't remember where right now), and it said that for my current weight, 20 minutes on the stationary bicycle burns about 150 calories. And that's "about" what I do. Course, Thursdays are close to depletion, so I was only able to make it to 15 minutes today.

I think the "key" is to not push it. If you're tired, or had a very busy day, like when I have to lift a lot of heavy groceries at work, cases of #10 cans and stuff, I just call "that" my workout for the day. I usually come home VERY tired, and probably couldn't ride the bike for very long even if I wanted to.

Day 1: 180.4
Day 7: 174.4
Day 13: 172.2
Day 20: 175.2
Day 27: 172.4 FM

Day 28: 174.6 Refeed
Day 29: 176.4
Day 30: 173.8
Day 31: 172.6
Day 32: 172.6

I'm finding it "interesting" to see, yet again, that I've maintained the morning after eating extra lean ground beef.

I made stuffed bell peppers for dinner last night. Walmart had these really, really big bell peppers when we did our grocery shopping last Saturday. So I split one of them in half. Combined 1/2 lb cooked ground beef, onions, cottage cheese, a bit of mozzarella and a couple tbsp of spaghetti sauce, then stuffed that into the bell pepper halves that I par-cooked for 30 minutes (covered, cut side down) with a bit of water in the pan first, then topped them with some left-over spaghetti sauce made with turkey sausage that I used to make Dreamsfield Lasagne last weekend. I baked them (covered) for another 30 minutes.

They were really really good.
