Hi everyone,
Well I did Lyle's psmf for 6 days with pretty good results. One inch off waist, 1/2 inch off lower abdomen and about one inch off belly button area. I am short waisted so these measurements are kind of weird but that's where I typically keep track. Day 1 166 Day 2 163.5 Day 3 161.0 Day 4 160.5 Day 5 159.5 FM Day 6 161.0 Day 7 159.5 ( I think. I forgot to weigh first thing in the am like I usually do. I was feeing kinda bloated and had 2 cups of coffee before I weighed so I am thinking it may have been more like 159 ish. It's only been one week for me and I am a CAT 3, but I think I am going to cycle to Atkins for a couple of days ( with no more than 1500 cals my BMR) because I am feeling like I could binge. I have been dreaming about food! Also, just cranky and headachy a lot. But, I know from experience that I stall on Atkins rather quickly so I am going to cycle between psmf and atkins and see how it works. It may be a disaster but I am going to give it a try. Hope everyone is feeling well. Have a great weekend. Will post later about how the switching works for those of you who are interested. Jeanie ![]()

Happy Saturday!
Morning ladies....
Yesterday I had a great breakfast and then around 3:00pm (forgot to make lunch) was very, very hungry....I had 80% hamburg in the fridge that was supposed to be part of dinner for kids two nights ago.... so I measured out 1/4lb raw and cooked that up... I have been experimenting w/eating high fats, low carbs at times during this past year - and it never really 'stalled me' and it definitely did not make me gain... so being hungry and not having a real low fat/low carb quick items on hand... I made a large salad (do you guys have the washed lettuce, curly & romaine in your grocery stores - they come in a plastic sealed box- kind of like the prepared fruit salad??? I think they are great - so easy to make a rollup already washed, etc..) Anyway - I had some curly lettuce, 5 grape/cherry tomatoes a small seedless cucumber, the hamburg, a couple of tbls. of feta cheese and a minimal amount of blue cheese dressing - It was soo good and totally satisfied me... so much so that I didn't eat dinner last night... (I did have a 'skinny girls martini/margarita..) (Patron & fresh squeezed lime juice...) and 3 fish capsules And happy to say - this morning....217 taaadaaa So - I know that I started high, bloated, carb loaded - but if I was at 223 or slightly more... good stuff....6 or more lbs. today is day 4 My little guy slept in late, dh and dd left early for swim practice - so I got to sleep in.. I wasn't really hungry this morning... but wanted to cook up some skinless turkey breast cutlets to have on hand for lunch... Dh & dd came home and I was making my coffee for EC and decided to throw a sodium free chicken boullion (spelling?), some baby spinach into a bowl w/hot water and create a little broth soup - let that set/steep (is that the cooking term... I love to cook but never get the chance...) some pepper and then after the spinach was nice and wilted cut up some of the turkey and had my coffee and a bowl of soup... very filling - I really like spinach... the other night I made a salad w/romaine & baby spinach - cooked up a piece of salmon in the microwave (so easy - so easy cleanup) and mixed all together with a tablespoon of caesar dressing (I put it in a coffee cup, run a little water into it.. .mix it up w/a fork - then pour it over the salad... ) well the salmon was still hot when I mixed it all up... and the spinach just wilted and took on such a great taste... I loved it...but I really love fish too, - I know that I have set points and now that I have broke the hovering at 220 - I feel confident that I will get down quite easily to the 200 mark - and then whether that is a set point physically or psychologically - it will feel great to be below that mark! I'm doing Callanetics - just finished my first 2 hours... because of schedules, work, and learning the DVD I have had to break it up into 4 sessions - but, atleast I am doing it... (It is relaxing and if anyone has done Bikram's yoga... I find the Callanetics has a similar effect on me.... really feel like I have done something - but not in that manic - infused energy way that you get from a spin class or aerobics... and of course - the room is not 102 degrees... ) but, It is relaxing and 'centering'.... Not sure if I'll do a free meal today or tomorrow... Have a great day everyone... I know the weekends are hard - they are especially hard for me...so... here's to staying strong... Kim |

Happy Mother's Day
Jeanie -
Congrats on your weight loss... I think that is why I had that big (high on the fat) salad - I was feeling bingey too... Scale 1st thing am = 215.5 yeah!!! Still have sooo far to go - but the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step... (or something like that.... )Starting to feel a little stuck on what to eat... I don't know why but breakfast seems kinda like a pain to me.... it used to be my favorite meal (while doing this or any other diet... but, I'm just stuck - I don't feel like making eggs... ) Anyone tried those egg muffins? I never have made them - thinking maybe I should make up a batch for the work week - I can't go w/out breakfast and get hungry out of control... The weather is lovely - the plan is yard work!!! Still haven't had my free meal... want to save it for dinning out... Happy Mother's Day (the most holy day of the year ![]() Kim |

Kim, I make the egg muffins all the time. I always add some kind of meat and seasoning. My favorite is putting 3 small shrimp in each cup before adding the egg beaters mixture. Or you can add some turkey bacon or ham. They're great to grab-n-go.

Linda,
Thanks - I think I'll get more egg beaters tomorrow - and make some up to have the ease of not making breakfast. So - I had my free meal... I definitely think I could have waited - but, think I might have 'crashed & burned' big if I didn't feel like I indulged a little...hopefully I'll get right back on the wagon - If I don't feel like a free meal in the middle of the week - I think I'll wait, especially if I see things moving well in the right direction, ie., down the scale. I had two small chocolate/chocolate chip cookies & a special K bar after my salmon/caesar salad and asparagus dinner... I don't think I did really bad - but my plan is to run on the threadmill tomorrow morning... (around 5:00am) and then do the Callanetics to get myself right back in the groove... I'm going to try and wait until Tuesday morning to weigh... that will be a tough one for me... Have a nice night... Talk to you guys tomorrow... ![]() |

Overdid my free meal tonight, kind of had an upsetting day. Issues with DH.
2.5 small porkchops, 2 helpings of Faux Potato salad with lite mayo, and a bowl of Carbsmart icecream (3 small scoops) for dinner. BURP! It felt like I ate a horse after what I'm using to eating. It's not really WHAT I ate, but more the fact that I ate all that because I was upset more than the fact that I wanted it. I haven't done that kind of emotional eating in quite a long time. So, we'll see what tomorrow brings. Urp!

Diva, I don't really have all that much experience, I'm probably only a single step ahead of you.
When I took my break, I basically ate anything I wanted to, as long as I stayed within the parameters I set up for myself. Initially I was TERRIFIED. And didn't have a "clue" as to what my maintenance calories even were. I read lots of recomposition posts where the guys kept saying they were shocked to discover that carbs didn't matter as much as they thought, when eating at maintenance calories. Provided they continued to eat their protein amount, plus veggies. I've read a TON of recomposition posts and don't remember "any" requirements during a diet break, other than to eat a "minimum" of 100 carbs, and your maintenance calories (or even slightly above, which is what I did) for a week. That takes into consideration that a lot of folks want to move into maintenance slowly, and will take the first week doing that. From what I understand, low glycemic carbs are fine. Plus if you suffer "badly" with insulin resistance, carb trigger episodes, or any other personal reason why simple carbs would be not a good idea for you personally, low glycemic carbs are even acceptable during a refeed. They just might not work as well for a refeed, but if that is your only option... You know--the whole thing is so individual. Which is why I'm tweaking my plan, yet again. The scale is moving in the wrong direction!!! I've bounced right back into and over my set point. But I haven't been able to stay as "true" to plan as I would have liked. This past weekend was another downfall. BUT, I went into it with my eyes opened this time because I wanted to eat enough carbs, that I'd be able to make it through this next coming week without a refeed. So--I'm now looking at this diet round as more of a training ground, than a real diet round. I'm learning what works for me, and what doesn't, so the next one will be successful. I don't know if a free meal can cause a weight gain over the following several days, but my weight has been doing crazy things like that this week too. Didn't recover from "any" of the free meals or refeeds. Day 1: 180.4 Day 7: 174.4 Day 13: 172.2 FM Day 14: 174 FM Day 15: 174.8 Day 16: 174.8 Day 17: 173.2 Refeed Day 18: 174.6 Day 19: 174.6 Day 20: 175.2 Small Refeed Day 21: 177.4 |

Okay. I did 6 days of psmf and was doing okay lost weight and inches but was starting to feel like I was going to binge so for the last two days I have been low/cal and low carb.
So far it's working great I thought I would put back on some of the water lost on psmf but haven't so far. Day 1 166 psmf 2 163.5 3 161 4 160.5 5 159.5 FM 6 161 7 159.5 low/cal low/carb about 1400 cals 10-15 carbs 8 159 low/cal low/carb about 1350 cals 10-15 carbs Will probably cycle back to psmf by mid week. Hi ladies-
So, I am going to try a different approach today- I am eating only raw veggies during the day- so I can have a larger meal at night- I think I am breaking down the meals too much- I need to feel full one time during the day, and that is not happening with the way I was doing things, so, I went on fitday, and I can have the 8 0z london broil, with some grilled zucching tonight- so as long as I have that to look forward to, I will just munch on the raw veggies, green tea and water- I didn't follow the plan all weekend- I wasn't really terribly bad, but did drink a lot of wine, had salt potatoes with butter, pizza, bread and butter- so, I don't dare weight myself for a couple of days- congratulations to all of you losers!! I have to try to stay on plan on the weekends- it has been hard to do that- Check in later everybody have a great day! |

Monday Morning already??? I had a crazy weekend. I started out good and on plan but found I really needed to tweak things this weekend while building our new patio. My body just wasn't about to sustain all that digging, shoveling, hauling, and lifting on so few calories. So I decided to eat freely this weekend and it was really nice to be "okay" with that. Honestly didn't feel guilty for eating what I wanted for once (knowing that I was burning it all off anyways!! )
I am up about 6 pounds, but after having all those carbs I'm not surprised. (Not to mention my body is still sore as anything so maybe retaining fluid in muscles!)I would be happy to be back down by Thursday or so. Guess we'll have to see.So here I am right back on plan today: 1) 1 Cup Hood CCFF Milk, 1 scoop PP 2) 3/4C egg beaters 3) 2oz sliced Turkey, 2 turkey bacon in Mini LC pita w/ lettuce, tomato, 1T lightMW 4) 4 oz lemon chicken on 1.5 Cups Bagged salad 5) 1/2 Eas shake w/ 1/2 scoop PP Totals: 574cals 9f/14c/104p

Happy Monday, everyone! I took my own diet break from about Wednesday through Sunday related to a mini-vacation for Mother's Day. I am back for a second cycle of PSMF today.
I didn't weigh in this morning, but I will tonight. I plan on doing it for two weeks. Congrats to all of you seeing great progress! It's nice to see this thread so active. |

jeanie, you've been doing well, maybe so well your body does need a mini-break! It will be interesting to see how that works.
Vickie, I know you're always giving great thoughtful advice, but my not-great, not-thoughtful advice would be to not even try to figure out what's going on for at least one more week! LOL. Basically I'm used to living in what I like to call "the crazy lady's body" which is why I'm always amazed when ANYTHING works like it's supposed to. You seem to know yourself pretty well and I can see that you are good at solving mysteries, but maybe it's just... ![]() Revenge of the Water Retaining Fat Cells? I know how hard psychologically that is. It's just easy to say to someone else.. My plan today was "Don't weigh!" and "Eat Clean". I have to be careful about too much fat sneaking in. I'm still more carbphobic than fatphobic. *hang in there* |

While I was doing the 6 days of psmf (Lyle Mcdonalds plan) I was eating about 700-800 cals a day. So the 1350-1400 I am eating now is substanially higher. Jeanie |

Jeanie,
Gotcha.... how are you increasing your cals? I purchased the book (Lyle McDonald) and believe that I am doing that.... I probably should be paying attention to how much protein I am having - I think that I might be having more than he recommends - and I am using sparing bits of salad dressing (caesar or blue cheese) I like taking the supplements - and I like the EC - although I think the effect has already diminished - but if it keeps the metabolism up - yahhh.... I like the idea of having a free meal once or twice a week - I like the idea of changing it up briefly (and controlled) to make the body think twice....I'm going to continue on w/guesstimating my protein (keeping carbs as low as possible) and minimal fat.... until I started to see the scale really slow down... as a cat 3 I should have quite a bit of movement ahead of me (hope!) When that happens - same as it seems for the rest of the crowd - I'll have to really dig in....I keep daydreaming about the availability of a larger wardrobe - that is really keeping me motivated because I don't really feel any differently in my clothes yet... Gonna keep doing Callanetics - have a goal of 15 hours this month... (today was the first day of doing 10 in 10 at one setting... only because of time constraints... although - I have to say a lot of the those exercises are really HARD!) Have a good day! Kim ![]() |

Kim,
I upped the cals by increasing fats. Mayo in the tuna, full fat cheese, fattier cuts of meat. So I guess you would say more Atkinish. but like I said I am keeping track of cals, want to stay at about 1500. Jeanie |

Jean- I like your idea, with cycling in some higher fat/cal low carb days- I used to lose weight really good with high fat/low carb, but, it just doesn't do it for me anymore- so hoping the low cal/fat/carb method works, but think it would be a good idea to get in more fat/cals at some times.....also, I think my new idea of not eating too many meals will work out for me- I don't know about anyone else, but I need to have 1 good meal a day- I am willing to sacrifice the other meals just to have 1 filling meal that I can enjoy-I am actually going to eat 9 oz. of the london broil tonight- with the 8 oz of ff cal cd milk, and veggies, I am still at only 654 cal., 19 carbs, and 17 fat- so, I think that is pretty good- I counted in the veggies I am munching on thru the day also.....I think I will go for longer with this plan, maybe around 10 days straight, then incorporate in a few days of low carb/higher fat/calories.....I need to get some cheese in the mix!!
Thanks again ladies for telling me about fitday- that is a really big help- take care- |

Yesterday wasn't too bad of a day for me. My husband took me to breakfast, replaced an exterior door in my bedroom so we can get things ready for a bigger remodeling of the room, later on, then even bbq'd steaks for dinner. I got a call from one of my sons (I would have gotten a visit if we'd been home the day before). Plus got myself all set up for the coming week with hard-boiled eggs and a large pot of veggie soup for those hunger attacks when switching back into ketosis.
The downside is the weather. It was really, really nice yesterday, but my ears started swelling in the middle of the night, so I was up with that. Took some Pamprin for the water retention, some Meclizine for the pain, and went back to bed. Only...come morning, I had to FORCE myself to get up and go to work. It was slushing snow this morning, a WET snow I guess you'd call it, so I was pretty nauseous. Kids I cook for got chicken nuggets and leftover mac and cheese. Something I could do on automatic. Revenge of the Water-Retaining Cells!!! You know...I KEEP "forgetting" how badly my body retains water when the humidity goes up. Thanx for the reminder Diva. You are sooooo right. I'll leave everything well enough alone now that I'm reset and set up for free meals on the weekends. I'm only halfway through this current diet round, and a LOT could happen in 3 weeks time. I "LOVE" all the new tweaking ideas being presented lately. Higher fat "or" higher carbs but still maintaining a deficit. Saving more calories/carbs for dinner. Cycling to Atkins if need be. I can remember doing that one when I was on Kimkins, since it didn't include any free meals or refeeds. Didn't hurt my weight loss efforts very much either. Oh, I'd gain a pound or two whenever I'd do that, but my cycling was on a daily basis. Whatever I needed to make things work on any particular day. I think Category 3 is by far the easiest category to be in, cuz you can get away with so much more than you can when your body fat percentage is lower. I've decided to switch up my exercise plan this week. Sort of flip everything over. I'm going to do 3 full-body work outs on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, then aerobics (my stationary bicycle) twice -- on Tuesday and Thursday -- to see if I like that better. I generally feel SO GOOD after doing a full-body workout, so I thought I'd up things to the maximum limit. Especially since my workouts aren't really all that strenuous anyways, due to my health and balancing issues. I'm also going to up my fish oil capsules from 6 to 10. I just need to remember to take them on the weekends. I'm not very good at that. I've been reading the recipes section over at xxx and found out that pork loin is soooo much better brined. So I'm going to try that tonight. We generally buy our pork at Sam's Club in one huge, pork loin, then bring it home and cut it up ourselves. So I have 2 of those boneless chops marinating and will let you all know if it works. I've been trying forever to figure out how to cook them so they won't come out dry and tough. Congrats Diva on the virgin territory! Plus almost reaching the 100 lb club! I have a ways to go before that, myself. Day 1: 180.4 Day 7: 174.4 Day 13: 172.2 Day 20: 175.2 Refeed (small) Day 21: 177.4 Maintenance Day Day 22: 176.2 |

Good Morning, all.
Ain't water retention grand? NOT! I was bloated all weekend, now today I'm back to my weight @ last Friday. I have been analyzing my intake, and I think I may have figured out the problem. I've been snacking on cheese - cuz I LOVE it. No more! The only thing I plan to eat that is not on the list is my HB eggs - yolk and all. Sorry, but just can't do HB egg whites alone. Went to the store after work last night and picked up my FF cheese and sour cream, LF cottage cheese, SF Jello cups. I am determined to make this work and give it good run.
