Hey quirkyrabbit! Thanks for starting the new thread and posting the links.

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY!

Well this month I am going to combine IE and IF. I did IE all last month and I noticed that I was only hungry from about mid afternoon until around 7pm. I am going to make this my "window" for now and see how I get on. I love the feeling of both IE and IF because I feel like I have so much freedom and my life does not revolve around food! I'm really looking forward to April because I think I have found a good plan and I really hope it will bring me success.

Starting today

Hi, can I join in here? I am starting IF today. For years I have known that if I don't do breakfast I do better all day but have fallen into "you need to eat mini-meals all day long". My idea of a mini meal has grown to eating ALL day long.

I downloaded the Fast-5 book and will read it more thouroghly today. Did you guys just jump into the 5 hour window or did you start be eliminating breakfast, getting used to that, then eliminating lunch?

I am sure I will have questions, I hope you don't mind sharing your experiences. I have a vacation planned in six weeks and would love to lose at least 6 pounds before then, is that doable? Thanks!

Welcome Nova! You will love it here. Great people and lots of info. Most of us eased into the 5 hour window as Dr. Herring described in his ebook. You can jump right into it, but it's really hard and I wouldn't recommend it.

Six pounds is totally doable. Dr. Herring said you can lose a pound of week doing the fast-5 and basically eat what you want.

Feel free to jump in with any questions you might have!

Good luck with IF!

I have to take a friend to the ortho doc today, so I'll be gone most of the day.

novamc To answer your questions:
I just jumped into IF BUT others eased into it. For the first few days I extended my break fast from 12 noon to 1 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. & finally settled on 2:00 P.M. for opening my eating window. For the past few weeks I have experimented with different eating windows but will probably go back to 2 to 7 eating window as that seems to work the best for me.

A lb. a week should be very doable if you are careful with your food choices. What type of eating plan do you think you'll follow?

We all do different plans on IF. I follow LowCarb/Whole Foods most of the time. Others follow Stillmans & Atkins on a rotation basis. Others are doing McKenna, conscious eating & or Intuitive Eating. Some do WW or Eat Fat Get thin. We are non-judgemental here, whatever works for you is what you should be focusing on. We all try to tweak our eating by trying new ideas. I've tried some fruit fasting. Now I'm have Egg Creams as a meal then I have a LC meal in my window.

Good luck & keep posting. We'll all try to answer your questions as best we can. As Carolina Sweetie mentioned to another newbie, read through all the posts when you have a chance, you'll find valuable information in many of the posts.

QuirkyRabbit Thanks for starting out our April thread How is your spring vacation going? Did you have a fun time in Sarasota?

NM_Jennifer Hope the work stress eases off. Glad to hear that your juice fasting is making you feel good & in control.

Xbumblebeex IE/IF sounds like it will work very good for you.

Rachel It's good to know that McKenna's advice is helping you in all areas of your life. Have you thought of where you would like to relocate to?

Went to a Dog Track to seeing the racing yesterday with friends. I ate off plan all day yesterday but will be back on track today & throughout most of the month as most of the visitors have returned home. The scale is up but it will be back down now that I can get back on track without any distractions.

Hi Novamc! Glad to have you on board! When I started IF a while a go I went straight into trying one meal a day. This was before I had read about the fast five. It was hard to begin with but then I felt really great doing it and it brought me success. Then I read about fast five and thought that the five hour window and thought that this would allow me much more freedom for social events etc. However, like you I eventually slipped back into thinking that "breakfast is the most important meal" and "eating regulary is good for metabolism". Eating like that caused me to put back on some of the weight I had lost. I was very disappointed. So last month I decided to try intuitive eating for a while and see where it would take me because I was fed up thinking about diets all the time. I found that my natural eating pattern has been from around 2pm - 7pm. This is the time of day when I am naturally hungry. So I am returning to IF and combining it with IF. Recently I have been eating one meal in the evening with a light snack about 2pm. I would like to get back to the warrior style one meal a day plan because I think this is what works best for me in terms of weight loss. As I am following IE I eat whatever I want for my meals until I am satisfied.

Thanks Barbara! I hope you have a good month

to the rest of the gang!

Good morning! April already.. Wow.
This month I intend to continue to learn McKenna's program "I Can Make You Thin" and integrate it into IF. Yesterday could have been better. Today will be. I just know it.
Have a great IF month everyone!!!

I started IFing by not eating B or L and getting home and eating an early dinner for a coupla hours. It really worked well for a while, and I dropped a dozen pounds. Then the weight riddance stalled.

Since then, I have experimented with different things, e.g., changing to Fast5 sort of concept, and having that feeding window in the morning. The change worked and I dropped more weight, but, for me, FIVE hours of undisciplined eating (which is how my mind interprets a a5 hour window) is too undisciplined. AND I'm on vacation this week, so my daily structure . . . isn't!

So, I'm just experimenting this week.

One thing to consider: supplements. I noticed I have palpitations if I do no supplement with imitation salt (potassium) and take other things like pantothenic acid (B5). Also, after 2 months on IF, it could be that my body needs a break, as I have read that some people indeed have palpitations while IFing. As I am an old bird, (yet not elderly) I monitor myself quite carefully.

You have to find a method that works for you: one that you are willing both consciously and unconsciously to follow to your goal.

Posting here is a good motivator for me, and I hope it is for you too!!

Warm regards,
Q

Q, I agree, when I IF I experience palpations too. I feel a whole lot better when I take my supplements. Thanks for the reminder. I'll take them right before I eat my meal this evening.

I plan to break my fast with a 100 cal pack of almonds and hot tea... then I will go home and make a nice LC meal + desert before my 45 min date w/the elliptical.

In case I'm not able to check in before the end of my work day, you all have a wonderful evening.

Stay faithful

Meekness

Awww, thanks for asking. Yes. It was a unique time. I went to the Sailor's Circus -- a PAL group of kids who learn circus skills and production. We stopped by for an early dinner (I ate too much) and I was back home in time for an evening party. It was fun to be with a bunch of stimulating and interesting folks from the area.

Back home, I'm not being as productive as I'd like.

Thank you everyone for your warm welcome and informative responses.

I think I am going to be easing into this, I going to break fast around noon and push that out by 30 minutes everyday until I am at a 3-8 eating window. It seems to be when I do the most damage naturally!

I plan to continue eating lower carb that includes greek yogurt (my fave) I feel like I need to add more eggs in my diet. My plan is to break fast alternating days with a yogurt/flax mix and an omelet then have a latter meal (after multiple soccer practices) with good protein/veggies. I have never been a night time snacker so this should suit me naturally. Also, we are very social eaters, girls nights, date nights, etc. so I feel this will help offset those added calorie nights!

I am hypothyriod and take Westhroid (similar to Armour) is anyone else here hypo, if so has this WOE helped/hindered your thyroid issues?

Thanks again!

Hi there , IF-er's!

I have lurked on this board on and off since summer. I did some Fast-5 during the summer, but stopped when school started back up, as I wasn't sure how to do it (my preferred window is 2-7) when my scheduled lunch was at 12:15. Anyhoo, I've been doing F5 for the past 3 days (well, yesterday the window was 12-7) and I feel really good eating this way. I feel more controlled when I know I am restricting my eating to 5 hours. Also, I like that I don't open my window until 2, so I can CONSCIOUSLY choose what I'm going to eat that day. .. not just *wing it* starting when I get up by eating who-knows-what.

I've mostly been following the Meat and Egg Challenge, but have been adding in other things lately, as I felt I needed them. So I guess I'm doing lc with some low-GI foods (1/2 slice of whole grain bread, berries. . .though I'm foregoing even those this week) thrown in for more of a *balanced* feel, during my window. That's where I am, and since you all are so supportive of each other's individual plans, I'd like to post in here, too.

Also, someone had mentioned that they have been having the egg creams with success. Yay!! I used them a lot during the summer (easier blender access during the summer) and they REALLY keep me full and satisfied. I'll post my recipe, in case anyone is interested:

Egg Cream Cappuccino

About 5 oz leftover hot coffee

About a 1/2 cup boiling water
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 pkt Splenda (or equivalent sweetener, I like to use a little DaVinci's)
1 or 2 eggs

1 pkt Splenda

Put coffee in a large mug. Put next 4 ingredients to a blender and blend until frothy. (30 sec?) Pour into mug with the coffee. Sprinkle top with last Splenda pkt and slowly stir in.

This is nice and frothy, like a "real" cappuccino. I have been adding in some cream and coconut oil, as well. . .super delicious!

Have a wonderful day!

I almost forgot. . .I wanted to post what I'm eating in here, too. Gives me that extra sense of accountability.

Ok, here's the plan for today's eating (I did open my window at 2):

L: tuna salad (w/ cream cheese, onion, a little mayo, spinach/herb mix, a chopped HB egg, some flax meal. . .Mmmm!)
S: some yocheese, probably with some protein powder and a chopped strawberry mixed in
D: Think I'll make some kind of chicken frittata with the rest of yesterday's rotisserie chicken
S: post-workout protein shake (I'll just get it in w/in my eating window)

Nova, welcome! I started by only eating lunch and dinner. Did that and it was great, so then I switched to a five hour window. I am now doing McKenna and just eating whenever I get hungry, sometimes in a seven hour window, sometimes longer or shorter. But I still post here because of all the great people.

Barb, I want to move to Florida so that we can hang out! Actually, I would like to move to St. George, Utah. It's much warmer there (they even have palm trees) and then my daughter would only be about four hours from her dad. I don't have a custody agreement prohibiting me from moving, but I want to do "the right thing" for everyone, as much as I can.

I was suppose to have a date tonight, but I just couldn't get excited about it, so I cancelled. I guess I just don't really feel like dating right now! So, I took down my profile and am just going to focus on my daughter, my work, and starting my own online writing business. Maybe I will date this summer, but only if I feel like. It's not fair to anyone for me to go out with him in a half-hearted kind of way, you know?

Today, my boss told me that I'm the most capable employee that she's ever had. Yesterday, she said I was doing a fantastic job. So, maybe all my positive thinking about work is making a difference.

See you all later! And Happy April!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good EVening IF'ers !

I am watching the Barbara Walters special that came on at 10 EST here and the program is about slowing the aging process.....very interesting. It seems as though science already has the technology which could reportedly allow humans to live 30% longer than the standard average. Lot's of intriquing information......

Hope everyone is having a great IF week so far.....I have to agree with Rachel, I am loving the McKenna techniqus and they seem to really be helping me.....I can also see these as great tools to use once I have reached my final goal and begin maintenance.......I am trying to hone my skills now, so they will be second nature to me when I reach that point......which is only 10 to 12 pounds away ! ( Thank Goodness !)

Congrats to all the losers.......isn't it a wonderful victory even when it is only 1 pound, it really does something to you psychologically, or at least it does for me !

Have a great evening all and stay strong ! KISS

I'm finding it difficult to IF with vacation and different (lack of) time structure, so I'm hiding from you all. I'm trying to get back on-track today.

It's great to see so many new people on-board here, as well as everyone I already "know." Welcome all!

I don't have a custody agreement prohibiting me from moving, but I want to do "the right thing" for everyone, as much as I can.
It's not fair to anyone for me to go out with him in a half-hearted kind of way, you know? Today, my boss told me that I'm the most capable employee that she's ever had. Yesterday, she said I was doing a fantastic job. So, maybe all my positive thinking about work is making a difference.
Rachel I would love to have you as a neighbor in FL & we would have a ball hanging out together but I understand that St. George would be a better option for you & DD. Doing the right thing for your DD is important.
I'm so happy that your boss is giving you the praise/feedback you deserve. Maybe when you move your boss would allow you to continue working as a tele-commuter rather than going into the office every day. That way you would be assured of a salary until your independent contractor ideas take flight.

Lot's of intriquing information...I have to agree with Rachel, I am loving the McKenna techniqus and they seem to really be helping me.....I can also see these as great tools to use once I have reached my final goal and begin maintenance.......I am trying to hone my skills now, so they will be second nature to me when I reach that point......which is only 10 to 12 pounds away ! ( Thank Goodness !)
I also watched the Barbara Walters special & was glad to see that they mentioned Calorie Restriction & also Reservatrol. Very interesting information.
I need lots of practice with the McKenna techniques but see that they will be very helpful.
Congratulations on consistently seeing new lows every week, you are a inspiration to everyone.

QuirkyRabbit Please don't hide from us. Vacations are a challenge for everyone. I too have been struggling with spending time & eating with my friends that were/are on vacation in FL. You & I will get back on track together

I am still endeavouring to get completely back on plan this week. Today's menu will be grass-fed beef chili and an Egg Cream within a 5 hour eating window. I may start my window a little earlier today since I'm trying to take Marc David's idea of body metabolism rhythm into account. He says our burning metabolism works the best before
