Good morning,

Barb - the speed reading was Evelyn Wood. I have to practice to keep up with it. I love to read, and want to read EVERYTHING I can get my hands on, so this should be a big help to me.

The Stillman's day went great yesterday! And I wasn't sluggish or sleepy yesterday afternoon. Went to my son's tennis match after work, mailed his tax return, and practiced my speed reading when I got home. So I had TONS of energy from not eating the "carbage". When will I learn? Then I slept like a baby last night! For me, carbs are evil. Why can't I realize that?????

So far, on plan today. I probably won't weigh until Saturday, so won't know results until then. They're having a potluck today at work, but I'm not participating. Everyone's ok with that really.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Theresa

I already feel so much better than I did 24 hours ago. Amazing how sensitive I am to the higher blood sugars and fluctuations.
Off to wake up the kids for todays mall walk.
Have a great day everyone!
Great news on the blood sugars! Keep it up chickie and you'll have it under control in no time!

I leave on Friday A.M. for a long weekend to visit with family at Delray Beach. I'm looking forward to it. I will make a few dishes so that I have on plan food although I will also have a few glasses of wine & will probably allow a little leeway with dining out.
Watched the Biggest Loser results show last night. Wow, Alli looked great & I was happy that she won. Now it will be interesting to see if she can maintain the spartan WOE & keep up with the grueling workouts.
Have a great Wednesday everyone.
Hope you have a great weekend At Delray Beach. It's wonderful to get away every once in a while!

I watched BL too! I was wondering the same thing about the WOE and workouts. You gotta return to real life sooner or later. I read something not too long ago that said that most contestants on BL gain 20 pounds back the first month after the finale.

Good Wednesday morning, IFers,

Theresa, that speed reading course sounds interesting.

Barbara I know you'll enjoy yourself this weekend, and it is good to get away, but ah so good to be home again. That's how I felt last weekend on our trip.

I am loving the egg creams and what they do for me. Energy is way up, and appetite is suppressed. Still making sure I get enough calories in, and that is why I opened my window a bit earlier yesterday. Wanted to make sure I had enough of an appetite to get a healthy, balanced meal for dinner.

Have some things I want to attend to this morning, so will be back later to see how you're all doing.

Barbara - have a great weekend!

I'm so intrigued by all this egg cream talk - not ready to go there, but sounds interesting. Right now i"m just trying to focus on the window. I've been applying for a few jobs so cross your fingers for me, there are 2 that seem to be great fits for me.

One thing I have been doing for the past 2 weeks or so is that I have gotten back to the gym and have been going 4-5x a week yay!

Have a great day everyone

Katie Good for you on focusing on your IF window. Great going on the gym
The best of luck on the the jobs. What happened to your business or are these jobs connected to it?

Sazzie Happy to hear the EC is working so well for you. I also get all the benefits you mentioned.

Missalissa What's happening chickie? I saw Alli on TV this A.M. If anyone can keep the lbs off, she seems like she can.

Therese I've always heard that Evelyn Woods is a great method for speed reading. KUTGW with Stillmans.

Well, today is a normal day at work. I'm opening my window early today with pork tenderloin, squash and salad for lunch. Tonight is kickboxing. Probably gonna die cuz I didn't go Monday night, I had to finish up our band booster fundraiser stuff.

The one thing that bothered me a little about Alli last night is that it seemed like an obession, almost to an unhealthy state. The late night binges on the ice cream or frozen yogurt (whatever it was). Definitely not healthy and could be early signs of an ED. Maybe not, could just be me and my perception~

Barb,

I saw you posted on the Egg Cream thread about the diet soda recipe in Atkins 72. What was Dr. Atkins advising the Egg cream for in that book?
Breaking a stall, a meal or what?

Thanks!

Hi Theresa The Egg Cream in Atkins 72 was in the dessert section of the recipe section. The recipe only called for one egg 1 T heavy cream & diet soda & was listed as 1.2 carbs.

Missalissa I also though uh oh when I saw Alli with the frozen yogurt but then thought that it might have been staged for the program. Why wasn't the Yogurt in the freezer? I can't even imagine anyone wanting to keep up that spartan WOE & grueling exercise for a lifetime.
Enjoy your kickboxing class tonight. You seem to be doing great with maintenance KUTGW You are my rock & inspiration.

That's just it Barbara, what happens when she can't keep up that WOE and workout schedule? Hasn't she set herself up for a lifetime of yo-yo-ing?

I'm sure it will be a challenge for all the Biggest Loser contestants to keep the weight off now that the show is over. Some will find a way, and others may gain it back. I can't imagine working out as many hours a day as the contestants do. I wish them the best.

Barbara- Fixing reduced carb breakfast has been going pretty well. I am not the most organized cook first thing in the morning, but the kids are liking the choices. One big reason that I wanted to do this is the fluctuating moods that my 12 y.o. has been having. I know this is fairly normal for 12 or 13, but if it could help him, then it's worth a try. It is healthier for them all around, anyway. My son is interested in the egg creams, but I would have to add the raw eggs while my 6 y.o. daughter wasn't looking. She gets "grossed out" easily. ---Have a nice weekend away.

Katie- Great job making it to the gym.

Having dinner before close of window. Today has been pretty good. Some cravings. Definitely low on energy, but that could just be because of my period starting.
Dinner is egg salad, marinated london broil, and celery w/ cream cheese. (Figured I should throw some veggies in my day)
I'll test my blood sugar in a couple of hours. Will report back.
I'm thinking that once I've finally got my fasting # back where it needs to be, I'll go to something like CAD - as long as the fasting # stays in normal range. I'll use carb-counting to make sure I'm not going over-board.

After-dinner blood sugar - 116! Woohoo! I'm so happy it's under 120. Now to get that fasting # down where it needs to be.

Just a quick hello!

I am stressed and my eating is showing it. But I should have an answer from a lender tomorrow. It will be a huge relief for me to have this done.

I wanted to jump right back into my two meal a day plan....but it is not working right now. So, the temporary goals are: keep up the exercise and don't snack at night.

Just wanted to say hi to all of you!!

Fasting blood sugar this morning was 137. Inching down. There are quite a lot of guidelines out there for what blood sugar should be, but IIRC, when I was pregnant they wanted me under 90 for fasting and under 120 two hours after meals. If I aim for that, I've got a ways to go before I can start CAD, but that's probably a good thing. Get me established. It's funny, having this as a goal rather than what's on the scale... I can't even get on the scale right now because of AF/TOM.
By the time I get my fasting under 90, I know my after meals will be even lower than they are now. Which will help when it comes to judging if the carb-counting during CAD is working.
Off to make coffee!
Have a great IF day everyone!!

WOE: Eat well/Intermittent calorie restriction
Hello there!

I posted on this thread a couple of months ago, I did two whole days of a 24-36 hour IF a week for a while and after two weeks got in to as well as could button a pair of jeans that had resisted even being pulled over my "derrière" since 2006.

Due to unforseen stresses in life I couldn't keep this up. But for a while now I've been trying which method of IF suits me best, maybe I'll just change around between them. It doesn't really matter that much as long as I get the health benefits and when I eat can eat until I'm satisfied (definitely meaning more than McKenna full I tried that and was left sitting there with plates of cold, formerly hot food that I couldn't finish and feeling hungry/starved again within an hour ).

This time I've been using IF the way most of you here seem to be doing, every day with an eating window, to compare with fasting for whole days. I'm doing it more or less as stated in Fast-5.

I'll report back on my progress, but have been doing it too unregularly to say too much about it yet. To give you an idea of where I'm at now, I can button the jeans but then I can't move

Many here have had incredible weight loss during the time I've been lurking. Very impressive and I'm so glad for you

fjeld

Good Morning, IFers,

Melissa, am very glad to be reading that you are concentrating on your blood sugar and making your good health your primary goal.

The weight will take care of itself once you're b/s is ideally established, and keeping it there with healthy foods will continue the good readings.

Today I will be going back to the physiatrist to check on my hand, and the numbness in my thumb......I know it's carpal tunnel syndrome, but I am hoping he will be able to direct me a bit more for its healing.

Have to get ready, cause I got a bit lazy this morning, and haven't made my bed yet, so I'll see you all later this afternoon.

I got an email from Whole Foods this morning w/ links to recipes I think.. What jumped off the page at me was this: "We encourage you to think of dietary needs not as restrictions, but as opportunities to eat well."
Well-timed for sure.

Good Morning Everyone
Rachel Good to have you posting. Hope the stress gets resolved soon. Good luck with the refi. If you need another quote from a lender just P.M. me & I'll give you a recommendation.

Jfeld Welcome back, good luck with FAST5, I enjoy eating within an eating window even when I stretch it a bit.

Sazzie Hope the Dr. will come up with some concrete answers for you today.

Melissa WTG on your B/S #'s. As Sazzie mentioned paying attention to your good health should be your main goal. We want you around & healthy for a long time.

Missalissa How does your body feel from the kickboxing last night?

I'm disappointed that my mini-vacation was cancelled. Everything happens for a reason so I'm o.k. with it. Today I'm off to get my hair trimmed & highlighted. Hope my gal will be able to follow the lines from the good cut I received last month.

I'm happy that I also have a job today so will check in this evening.

Thanks for the welcome

You look incredible in your photo Barb as do you Missalissa in the photo you posted when you reached goal. Amazing what you both have accomplished.

(And Missalissa, that story about how your daughter surprised you and DH and how he went into hiding for the day was hilarious. I've experienced one like it myself except I was the poor soul who had to walk in on my parents. It's totally in the category of stuff my innocent retinas should have been spared Well, at least now I can laugh about it.)

Fast-5 is working well most days. Of course I didn't take it easy but jumped right into it so am having a couple of headaches etc and feeling a little weak sometimes. I'll tweak it 'til it works though.

Soon five o'clock here and I'm breaking fast with a huge grapefruit and some more fruit and then on to salmon and broccoli and probably something later in the evening before 10.

Have a beautiful IF-day everyone,

Thanks! I need to post some new pics cuz even though I have only lost 6 more pounds since that pic, my body is changing with all the strength training and kickboxing.

Oh my, I don't think DH and I will ever get over that little episode! DD now does this thing even when DH isn't home. She hollers "COMING IN!" anytime she walks into a room!

Fjeld, make you window a little longer at first if you need to make it easier.
