I actually have both The Diet Cure and Good Calories, Bad Calories out of the library right now. I think both books are excellent thus far. .I'll probably have to go out and buy them for myself, lol. But I agree, you can't take everything you read as gospel. I think you have to decide for yourself what it pertinent to you and your life and go from there. But I would recommend both books as very good food for thought.

Today I was up .6 of a pound. Not surprising after yesterday's lunch of sodium and a fruit/grain cereal bar that I found in the depths of my desk at work. Bleah. But I'm not discouraged. I had a mug of coffee this morning at work and then mid-morning I broke out the choco-mocha egg cream. It's not keeping me as full as the hot ones I have at home, so I'm gonna experiment a little more with the cold ones to get them just right. I had some lemon yocheese to open my window, along with some dark chocolate. 4pm saw more lc cole slaw (I just can't seem to stay away from it!)and 2 HB eggs, and I closed my window tonight with a protein shake.

That's all for tonight. . .gonna go read my Gary Taubes book before bed.

'Night all!!

This morning the scale is down another lb. I weighed in at 187. I noticed in the mirror this morning that I look like I've lost a little in my abdomen. That may be due to the fact that IF helps with inflammation and fluid retention, plus my gut is not over-stuffed with food now!

Today will be a test for me. Having to go in to work early always makes me more hungry in the evening. I am going to try to get in some lower carb foods tonight. I can go a bit crazy with the high carb stuff on IF just because I know I can get by with it. The problem with that is that when I overload on carbs, I get so sleepy that I can't function after dinner. I just collapse and doze off on the couch until bedtime and feel like I've lost my whole evening!

Have a wonderful day, everyone!

My scale is still stalled. Up & down for the past month the same one lb. A little discouraging. I'll let you know if I decide to "tweak" anything. Haven't decided yet what if anything I need to do to make the final push to goal.

Have a great day IFers Stay strong everyone. Barbara

Morning peeps! TOM is almost gone and scale is back to normal!

You know I was thinking about this last nite, for everyone that is close to goal: I know that the weight loss slows the closer you get to goal, but one thing I realized last night looking through my journals was that I got really lax at the end. Ate some things I shouldn't have just to see if I could get away with it. I should have paid as close attention at the end as I did at the beginning. If I had, the last month to goal would probably been alot smoother!

So hang tough everyone! The end of the weight loss journey is near, and the maintenance road lays ahead!

Hello Ladies!

Things are getting so busy here! We are starting some home repairs/ remodeling. This means I need to pitch in on my share of the work, and won't be on the computer much. Once the kids are home for the summer, then I really will be distracted. I hope to check in on the group here now and then. I didn't want you all to think that I was just slacking off on eating right. On the plus side, I can burn some extra calories with all the projects. LOL

Missalissa- Good point about how we get looser with our eating. I think another factor can sometimes be our physical activity...we sometimes get into a rut and don't challenge our bodies. I know that when I get to the maintenence road, that I will still have to keep learning and working at staying there.

Barbara- I liked your point about not following everything that we read about. There seems to be so much advice out there on losing weight, and not much agreement on the best way to do it. LOL I find that I just sift through the information and only keep what makes sense to me... compared to all the rest of the stuff I have read. It can be confusing to find what really works for us individually.

Carol Ann- congrats on losing. (Yay)

Gracie- I hope you have a fabulous time.

I am a LCer and am going to try IF for the first time today. I do have a couple of questions if you don't mind...
On LC I've never counted calories but haven't worried either due to eating throught the day. I'm 5'5" 150lbs and my goal is to get to 130-125lbs so what would you all suggest be my calorie per day intake be?
Starting out today I am going to have my window be from 1pm-8pm and then wait a 1/2hour each day until I get to a 5hour window from 3pm to 8pm.
I have read that alot of you drink egg-creams...can someone share a recipe with me...please!
Sorry for all the newbbie questions...Thank you for having this thread!!

! You've got a good plan on working to get to the 5 hour window. As far as calories, I never really counted then either before IF and I still don't really. I hadn't had a problem getting enough calories during my window.

Good luck to ya and keep us updated on your progress!

alove4candles I don't count calories but usually have a good idea how many I consume. I have read that on the Biggest Loser they take your weight times 7. Others say your weight times 10. So going by this you should be eating 1050 to 1500 calories per day if you want to go by those guidelines.
I make a very simple Egg Cream with diet splenda sweetened soda, 1 or 2 T of Heavy Cream, 1 T of CO & 2 or three eggs. Look at the main lobby or on the challenges thread for many more ideas for making these shakes:

Day 10: Egg Creme Experiment (long)
*Slim & Sexy by Memorial Day* *Egg Cream Challenge*

Good luck with IF. You'll love it here, a great group of supportive gals & we're also nonjudgemental. We support you no matter what WOE works for you.

Confession Will miss you but I understand that you have other obligations. Please check in as much as you can.

Missalissa You are 100% correct re:
"it's easy to get lax at the end" Glad that your scale is back to normal .
I am going to be trying one meal per day again & confine my window to one hour to see if this gets the scale moving. I know that I can maintain fine by using the whole 5 hr. window & sometimes it stretches to 6 to 8 hrs. so I might as well go back to what worked for me previously.

Great lowcarb IF day going here. I'm going to stick with what was working before. low carb in a 6 to 11 a.m. window. I feel better eating just breakfast and lunch.

Trying to plan a "karaoke night" at a bar tomorrow nightfor a friend with cancer who isn't feeling well but wants to go out. Hope we can get everyone together to cheer her up.

Aloveforcandles You are going to love our gang here. We will try and answer any/all questions you may have.

Well, today was another enjoyable day with dd, and even tho I had to get to the doc's this afternoon, we are still having fun.

I've now had two professional opinions (one from the physiatrist; the second from the orthopedic surgeon) about this ongoing arm problem I've had, and they concur with one another. Seems that I did have an impingement, and they can't figure out how it remedied itself, but it did.

I now have the green light from both physicians to go about my normal routine including exercise, and just use common sense in the exercise arena.

Yes, Barbara, I will exercise caution

Anyway, the rest of the day is going to be spent on the lanai and just a'chillin.

You ladies enjoy the rest of the night, and I'll try and bbl.

Sazzie I'm so happy to hear that both Dr.'s agree. I'm glad you cleared the impingement on your own without surgery,
How was your visit to St. Augustine & where did you dine?

OMG. I'm such a dolt. Ok - I'll try to be gentle on myself. This is my first year with chronic allergies from pollen. Last year I learned that a sunburn can mess me up for days.. So far all the events besides getting pregnant are so transient that they don't show up with higher blood sugars over time. I guess with my allergies now getting worse and lasting over several weeks (instead of only when the pollen got wet like the last two years) combined w/ my period.. No wonder my blood sugars went up. <sigh> LOL.
I'm looking forward to putting Dr. Bernstein's plan to work and see if it helps keep things more balanced. When I do LC, I tend to eat lower amounts than Dr. B recommends, so that could explain why I feel so starved even though I eat tons of LC foods.. When I eat off plan I eat way more than good for carbs. I'm really hoping Dr. B's plan will be what I need.
So glad someone mentioned allergies to me or I'd probably still be walking around scratching my head.

xbumblebeex So good to have you posting. We don't mind if you want to follow IE without IF. Whatever works is what matters. I myself am experimenting to see what will work the best for me. I tried eating more meals/snacks in my FAST5 window and stayed the same. Yesterday I decided to go back to one main meal within a one hour timeframe with only a tiny snack of 4 small dark chocolate squares right before my window closed along with a decaf. The scale went down 1 lb. This may be the "tweak" that my body needed to get the scale moving again. Too much lax eating within my 5 hr. window was stalling me.

MelissaF So glad that you found out that allergies might be messing with your body. Hope that Dr. Bernstein's solution is a big help to you. We're here to cheer you on & support you in your journey.

Will BBL to check in with everyone. Have a Great Friday

Good news! I dropped another 1 and 1/2 lbs! That is a total of 5 and 1/2 lbs over a period of two weeks. I haven't even been eating very well, but I am working on food choices.

Today we had to work from 5 till 2:30. I just knew that getting up that early would push me to eat a little earlier than noon. I took a low carb shake with me just in case. I didn't get a bit hungry until noon! I think my body is adjusting to this eating schedule very well.

I hope to incorporate some walking this next week, but no promises!

Hope all is well in the Land of IF!

Hi!

Hey there - how are you guys? I have been struggling w/my weight for a while now - I did a 'controversial' low fat/low carb diet last summer that I did very well at - but, after some time let the weight creep right back up to actually a lb. or 2 higher than my heighest...

Anyway - I happened upon the Intermittent Fasting and read through your board yesterday morning - I was really intrigued, many of the same habits like not being hungry at breakfast... the window is when I would have the roughest time on any diet, etc...

So - yesterday I was pleasantly surprised to not have any problem waiting until 3pm to eat and ended at 8pm w/little problem...

Today - I was really feeling hungry earlier - I made it until 2:30pm and had some cottage cheese and a HUGE salad w/chicken, feta cheese and blue cheese dressing - I should have stopped before the whole thing was gone - I should have listened to my body - I think I was giving myself permission (I have a large appetite normally and the reason that this IF appealed so much - was because on any other day I would have eaten some breakfast (and that at times has sent me directly into a binge) maybe had a snack and still had that same size HUGE salad) but I feel really uncomfortable right now... (these pants are tight - so that is not helping...)

Anyway - just a couple of quick questions -

Typically how many days into IF 5 hour window before you felt 'in the groove'?

What is CAD? (I thinks that the acronym I saw in previous posts?)

Do you count coffee w/cream as not being in a fast?

Do any of you imbibe on this IF woe? If so, do you limit this to the window also?

Has anyone used IF to lose a lot of weight (I need to lose atleast 55lbs.) Or are most of you on this for the end of your journey?

I also wanted to say that I admire the 'atmosphere' of this thread/board - it seems to me that there are a lot of people 'out there' who really want to 'tell you what to do' but that is not the case here - you are all so supportive of each other, etc...- I think it's really great and I'd like to 'find a home' and hoping that this woe will bring me back to the Old Kim!

Anyway - just a couple of quick questions - Typically how many days into IF 5 hour window before you felt 'in the groove'?
Kim, nice to have you with us. Please consider this your home no matter what WOE you decide is t
