Anyone doing Moderate Carb/ LowER fat/LowER calorie??

I am trying this out mainly because I want a change of life and while lowering carbs does help my weight come off faster, I really think that lowering them below 75g net is unneccessary for me. I do have PCOS and have been doing LC prior to my breast reduction surgery.
However, I am now running about 12 miles a week and feel the need for mroe healthy carbs in order to not feel nauseous or dizzy.

So my plan is:
* to stay between 12-1300 calories(this is where I feel comfortable and not starved)
* keep total carb at approximately 100g
* keep fat at 30% or lower (no more than 10% coming from saturated)

Anyone doing this sort of thing already?? I just want to have something I can live with forever. I haven't felt "bingy" or starved for this past week and have still lost 3lbs!! I am thinking this may be good for me. Healthy eating who would have thunk it

My sample menu is:

Breakfast: Protein shake(whey protein, skim milk, some berries, flax meal) if I run in the morning . If not 1 slice of whole wheat(double fiber) with .5 T PB and glass of skim milk

Morning snack: yogurt(LC or lowfat whichever I have on hand)

Lunch: Hummus, veggies, melba crackers OR tuna sandwich, etc.

Snack: Turkey pepperoni, string cheese

Dinner: BBQ chicken breast with mashed butternut squash(olive oil instead of butter, red pepper and garlic powder)

I am actually eating all day, things I like and feeling healthy and comfortable, not full. I am really enjoying this and would love company if anyone is doing something similar??

In my opinion and not being a health professional, running 12 miles per week means you need more calories than that per day. Also if you do not have diabetes, 30% fat should be sufficient for you to cut it. I can't advise on the other stuff about the carb levels...

Well, being a health professional, I know that is sufficient calories for me to feel satisfied and healthy.
My fat intake is not going to be cut because the majority of the fat intake is healthy unsaturated fats.
I was just looking for anyone who was doing a similar WOE to join up with.
Thank you for the insight though

I am currently doing low cal. I really don't watch my carbs, but try to keep an eye on fat. So far this week I have lost 5.5 lb.s and I just started monday. So I think that is pretty good for starting out. I have yet to get into a exercise routine, but will do so when the weather warms us some.

WOW!! 5.5lbs your first week!! AWESOME!!
I found LC to help teach me about moderation and what really makes my body feel good and not so good...etc. I do owe a lot to the LC lifestyle, but find I feel healthier on a more "balanced" WOE.
Glad I am not alone out here!!

It was hard for me to stick with Low Carb so I got the book Never say Diet by Chantel Hobbs. I am doing what she says in her book. She lost 200 lb.s on Low Cal. My 1st week will end on Monday so I will make sure to post how much total I lost in my 1st week. I was down another 1 this morning. And I can honestly say I feel great for the first time in a long time. The first part of the week was bad since I was coming off of a caffine high, but now it is good

I haven't read any books or anything, I am just going by what is healthy and doable for me
I lost 2.5lbs last week and up to 1.5lbs lost this week(official weigh in tomorrow) I wanted to lose 2lbs a week so, so far so good

I even turned down a pancake that DH made this morning because I knew that a 14carb pancake would not satisfy me the way a protein shake(with blueberries, skim milk and whey protein) would and then save the carbs for a sandwich(split in half and eaten over 4 hours) I find it is easier to make better choices now.

So menu today:

B- Protein shake, 1/2 orange

Midmorning- 1/2 tuna sandwich, 1/2 orange

Lunch- 1/2 Tuna sandwich

(Running 3 miles)

Midafternoon- Yogurt, protein shake

Dinner-4oz Tilapia, 1 cup broccoli

I honestly feel like I am constantly eating

Total calories: 1194
Total carbs: 95 Fiber:20
Total Protein: 123
Total fat: 35( 8g saturated, 13g monounsaturated, 7g polyunstaurated)
I am trying to figure something else inthere to up my calories so I may add some other snack in there too

Sounds like you are doing great!
KUTGW!!

Looks like you are going great!! I also eat 5 times a day. Small amounts each time. My menu usually looks like this:

B: whole grain english muffin with 1 T. peanut butter
S: bananna 1 with 1 tsp. peanut butter
L: Low carb tortilla with turkey, lettuce, tomato and a bit of mayo
S: apple
D: chicken with lettuce, tomato, onion, egg, and low cal. dressing

I also drink 120 oz. water each day.

I am amazed that I am not hungry and really don't even feel like I am dieting. I can do this all my life. SInce you need a few more cal. today maybe you could do a snack after you eat dinner. You are doing great. Keep it up

Me! Me! Me!

This sounds exactly what I do now!

I have my once a week cheat snack or meal. No more junk food or soda of any kind. Funny thing is I stopped craving sweets such as chocolate, ice cream, and cookies.

I'm actually eating more protein and feel really good after strength training.

My daily calorie intake is between 1500-1800 calories a day.

I feel great!

Lora!!
Glad to have you aboard!
My official weigh in and measurements were this morning....

Total lost this week: 2.5lbs
Total for past 2 weeks: 5lbs

Total inches lost in 2 weeks: 9.25 inches

So needless to say, I am happy with what I am doing and will keep up the WOE. It's so liberating!! I actually had 2 slices of thin crust pepperoni pizza on Friday and still made it to 2.5lbs lost!!
I think it is such a healthy rate of loss and I actually did my 3 mile trail run without stopping yesterday!!

SJ- I did end up having a snack after dinner, just more LC yogurt and some tea. Your menu sounds great!
I am glad to find that there are others becoming less obsessed with carbs too

S: Bananna
L: (don't yell at me) 2 choc. chip cookies with 1 cup milk
S: apple

I am really working on my water...got off on that since we had church this morning, so trying to make up for it now.

WOE: My Way
Wow what a great thread. This is very similar to how I eat. Although I don't journal or track my food. My usual diet looks about like this:

B: protein shake made with 1 scoop nectar and 1 sf yogurt.
S: apple and 2 T pb
L: Salad with chicken usually from a resturaunt or fast food place
D: Canned soup which I add 1 can of chicken, ham, tuna, or salmon to, depending on the soup.
S: About 3 nights a week I have about 2 pieces of really good chocolate (about 100 calories) and a glass of wine.

I usually eat a chicken burrito or taco from taco bell about once a week in place of my salad or my diner. Friday nights is always a 8oz siroin streak and small baked pototo and salad with friends, unless I've been unusually good that week, then I have the prawns and onion rings. Also on T or Th I usually have a subway sub for diner.

Sundays are my days off sort of, no sugar still, and usually wholesome foods, but it is the one day a week that I have time to cook, and usually invite friends over to eat with me. So I make things like cheesy chicken and tortilini (lots of different veggies in it) or deluxe spanish rice, even made homemade tamales and salsa my first weekend after my seperation from my hubby.
Sometimes that leaves me with one meal for the week, sometimes not, depnding on who shows up for diner

When I'm faced with eating something too carby or really high in fat, I just take smaller portions and eat something healthy when I get home. An example would be last night at bowling, a friend bought pizza for the group, so I had one slice of the kind I liked, and had a big salad after I got home.

I am losing slowly eating like this, 8 pounds in Nov, 3 in Dec (all the holiday eating and stress) So far for January I'm down 4.

I try to only eat when I start feeling hungry rather than just because it's "time". I also try to stop as soon as I start to feel any sort of fullness, or satiety. Which is a big change for someone who ued to eat until I was so full I didn't think I could move.

My big concern is that i'm getting ready to start excercising again, which Ihad stopped in Oct during the initial breakup with hubby. I don't know how that is going to affect my hunger levels.
I'm fairly active in my lifestyle, but want to build some strength and endurance for all the things that I do.

Anyway, it's nice to see other people who basically eat moderate carb low calorie and low fat.

Lora - The snow here is all melted away You enjoy it for me ok...LOL Have a great day at work.

Gwen - You are doing a good job. I know I couldn't lose eating out like that, but if you can go for it.

Today is my 1 week on plan. I was down 8 lb.s. That was even with TOM coming this last week, so I am pleased with my weigh in for the week. My goal for this week is to lose 4 lb.s I think it will prob. start to slow down sometime. I have never done low cal. before so I don't know for sure...anyone know if you slow down on low cal???
I hope you all have a great day. I will try and check in on one of my breaks.

I'm still sore from doing my lower body workout on Sunday, yet I went into the gym yesterday to work on my "pull day". Not too bad other than a couple of guys grumbling about me working on the free weights. This won't stop me!!

I wish! No, there are a limited number of benches and it was a Monday, blah, blah.

My menu:
B: 2 - Light Whole Wheat Bread (40 Calories a Slice!) with one spread with P.B., the other with hummus, 2 egg whites mixed with green, orange, and red peppers, banana

S (1): Part-Skim Mozzarella String cheese, sliced green apple, few dried cranberries, sprinkle of cinnamon on top

Lunch: 2 Cups of Butter lettuce, 3oz. chunk light tuna, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, mixed peppers, 2 black olives, 1/4 cup of black beans,Zucchini, cucumbers, drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette (my own home made)

S (2) 2 Rye Crackers spread with a bit of P.B.

Dinner: Same salad as lunch except instead of tuna it will be 3oz. of grilled chicken breast and 10 spears of Asparagus (steamed in microwave), add lemon juice. Real good.

Also I always have green tea morning and evening! And of course, lots of water!

I can almost say goodbye to the 170's!!! I am so excited and my goal is just getting closer and closer and I feel so much better foodwise now too!!
Ahhh, loving life today!
