Fat Fast

Is anyone else here interested in doing the fat fast? It can be used for weight loss or to break stalls, the latter being recommended as it's considered unhealthy for people who are not extremely metabolically resistant. I compiled a post called The Fat Fast Archive for anyone who wants to learn more about it. Perhaps if there's any interest we can share recipes and results here in the thread.

As is says in your blog and DANDR it is truly only for the metabolically resistant who don't lose on Induction. In looking at your Fitday one thing sticks out-your lack of vegetables. I do see lettuce and celery with guacamole but why not try moving up the rungs of OWL? If I don't have a more balanced diet with the nutrition from vegetables my body won't give up a pound.

I'm sorry, I'm not following Atkins. Forgive my confusion, but I started this thread hoping to find others who are interested in experimenting with the fat fast, and I get a critique of my fitday instead?

(I realize you are trying to be helpful, but I would have preferred you PM me your concerns instead)

I wasn't critiquing you but making a comment and asking a question on a public forum. You also have the link listed for your Fitday on your blog-I clicked on the link. If you want people to join the experiment-we can't ask questions? I thought I did it in an intelligent thoughtful manner-I'm sorry if you took offense. I always try to research things and if I have questions I ask but I never mean to be rude or offensive. Again I apologize if I offended you.

Here's a link you might be interested in. This guy is doing a 30 day experiment with a very high fat diet and tracking his progress-very interesting. Keeping Track of jeff's MAM Experiment

My journal is indeed available and questions are fine. I just didn't think I would be talking about it here, that's all.

Not a problem. I am actually surprised, not offended. You were being intelligent and thoughtful, I was just caught off guard.

Isn't this astounding the amount of calories & fat he's ingesting daily?

Yeah, I could never have that kind of dedication, especially in ketosis! He managed to do that for twenty eight days and gained only a pound when he should have gained thirteen.

I would like to see a woman do the exact same thing as he is doing for comparison. Men usually have the metabolic advantage and I think the results would be very interesting. I certainly couldn't stick it out!

You are right, men do have the advantage and women would probably have different results. We'll have to wait for a someone to volunteer, but that might be a while. LOL

On that site, Red had done a challenge like that, and Manaloa. Red was at a good weight and didn't drop any, but from what I found of Manaloa, she lost some.

I've done the fat fast, and lost but as soon as I went to low carb, would gain it back. I know I didn't do it right, I was still pretty early in the low-carb, and didn't have a good handle on eating right. Now I'm shooting for 50-60 g of protein and the rest as much fat as I can work in. Also trying to keep my calories up above 1200. With very low carbs, I am just not that hungry, even eating calorie dense foods.

I can try it with you if you'd like. You can really get a grip on portion control with this.

This is exactly what I am doing, actually! I tried fat fasting on my own but I can't seem to get my calories above 80% fat so I decided to just make that my goal and I've been losing so far. My blog has links to my recipes and my fitday journal.

(right now I am addicted to chocolate flavored whipping cream mousse)

If you'd like to do this, I'm more than happy to!

I'm not sure I'd do the fat fast again. I can, but I'm not sure it would help me out where I'm at. I think dropping my protein sets me up for cravings. If you are losing weight, there is no need to do a fast. Stick to what works and when things stall, then it's time for a shake up. IMO, not going to the most drastic diet gives you something to work in later when you might need it.

The mousse sounds gooood! Right now I have a cheesecake that I munch on while the rest of the family has their ice cream.

KUTGW!!

I hope you like the mousse! BTW I decided not to continue with this thread. The fat fast is something I'm not going to do, and there's just not enough interest. I found a thread here on Other Plans for the Eat Fat Get Thin program by Barry Groves. The people there are friendly and welcoming. You should stop by and say hi sometime.

Thank you!!!!!!

Thank you lowcarbmargi.

This is my first post on this board. I’ve been lurking on this BB and another for the past 2 months. I found it necessary to let you know I enjoyed reading your blog and want to share my recent experience with fat fasting

I re-started Atkins Induction on November 1, 2007 at 230 lbs. I lost 5 pounds during the first 2 weeks. I started exercising vigorously 6 to 7 days a week, but started gaining weight. I was so frustrated and exhausted. Initally I was counting net carbs and learned (by lurking) about Atkins 72’ , were net carbs wasn’t counted. Having said that, I resorted to lowering my carbs to close to zero by eating only meat and eggs. I still wasn’t losing any weight. I found myself losing and regaining the same 5 pounds after resorting to carb cycling, another route I learned about on the forums.

Finally, the week of Christmas I read about fat fasting on the forums so I looked it up in Atkins book. I knew that eating 250 calories every 4 hours would lead me to binge so I modified the diet by eating around 100 to 150 calories every 2 hours. I was never hungry and felt full throughout the day.

Needless to say, after stalling for a whole month, within a week I lost 10 pounds. I went from 219 to 209. Now don’t get me wrong, the food did get boring and I was craving my meats/protein. But didn’t binge because I felt satisfied. I plan to do a fat fast once a month for 4 days and see how it goes. I am metabolically resistant and the fat fast works for me.

Keep up the good work lowcarbmargi

Teri

Terri

Great job on the weight loss!!

I too am struggling with losing. I don't know if I want to try the fat fast or not, it didn't seem to work for me like I thought it should. Maybe I should give it another go, it been over a year since I tried it last time.

Any other pointers you guys have? I'm up again, but won't write the weight down until Monday. I know some if it's hormonal, but I am soooo discouraged!
