Has anyone tried the Optifast diet?

Yes. Around 1986. Lost 60 pounds in 12 weeks. Got to where I hated the shakes. I think I had to drink 5 a day. After a couple of days felt no hunger. It was the most successful diet I've used for weight loss. Unfortunately when I went off it was the quickest I’ve ever gained. I'd not recommend it.

Ditto what Jean said. When I stopped it, I gained it back and lots more. I hate shakes now.

Today is my 47th day on Optifast. I am not following it strictly and so am not in ketosis and still get a little hungry.

What will happen as I gradually introduce normal food into my diet is a concern for me too but my dietitian said that she would discuss this with me when I finish the OF course.

I quite like the shakes and the dessert but I find the bars a little too filling. I am eating more vegetables that ever before in my life and I don't really miss the carbs I used to love e.g. rice and bread.

I only had shakes I don't believe desserts or bars were available when I was on the program. It was easy in the sense that I didn’t have to think about food. Shakes were my only option and because of my all or nothing disposition I could stick to it. I struggle following a diet now with choices.

My downfall was transitioning to food. I never learned how to eat in a way that would maintain my weight loss. This is where you need great determination and knowledge to keep the pounds off.

I wish you the best and hope your long term results are better than mine.
