Good Morning!

My december goals are:

Stick to my 5 hour window
Get to the 220's
Eat more protein, fewer carbs

Yesterday I started my window with yogurt with nuts instead of a carb and ate more proteins during the day and no indigestion...go figure lol. So while I'm not going 100% LC, I'm definitely upping the protein and limiting carbs a bit more.

Tomorrow I fly to CT, after Monday (first class) I'll have more time to be here, more time for personals and a lot less stress! Yay!

On another board I've been in a 6 week challenge and I took my after pics today - definitely a difference, of course, not as much as I wanted but cest la vie - I'm just impatient hehe. I figure I'll take the pics again January 1 and just keep a monthly physical record.

I have to pack, clean and do all kinds of other stuff today. I leave at 6am tomorrow and I'm not sure if I'll make it back to the board before monday evening.

Have a great day and Happy December!

Hi everyone!! I can't believe December is here!! I woke up to a couple of inches of snow on the ground. It is so pretty and calming!

WTG Barb!! I bet it feels great to fit into smaller jeans! You are doing a great job!

Missa... I didn't have a lot of time yesterday to cook, so I made your garlic chicken. Everyone ate it up. I made gravy for dh and kids from the drippings. I love having recipes that are good, fast and easy!! Thanks!

Xbumblebee.. Your goals sound great! I need to make one of mine to drink more water too!! Have a great, um, afternoon??

Well, today I go to the dinner party. I am fasting all day until we go. I hope I do good and not make anyone feel bad if I don't eat their food! Take care everyone! I will check in later!

question? new to IF...

Happy December Everyone!

I cannot believe this year is almost over! I posted this on the November board so I copied it over here since it is now December.

You guys are all so nice! This is such a great board! Thank you for the responses...

I love low carb and have been on it a month and lost fast the first 2 weeks, but the second 2 weeks stalling alot....So, I am hoping that IF will help!

Isnt it basically eating once every 24 hours?....or do you guys eat twice within the 5 hour window?

Also, as for the no calories before the window, can you have coffee with cream in the am?...I will probably do my window between 5-10 pm or maybe 3-8....

Thanks so much for the help and motivation!

blessings!
Lynn

To answer your questions as best I can:
FAST-5 main point is to fast for 19 consecutive hours. I questioned Dr. Bert Herring the author of F-5 about how many meals & what to eat. He said that some people break their fast with a small snack and then within the 5 hour eating window have a main meal & most people try to eat healthier on this way of life. He said it doesn't make any difference if you break your fast with one main meal & then have a snack later or you can leave out the snack all together. There are no hard & fast rules. Everyone on this thread does F-5 in their own way within their personal preference hours. Some people have two meals + a snack. It's all up the the individual and what works for them. I usually wait until 2 or 3:00 P.M. to open my window and have one good sized main meal and then close my eating window within an hour. This works good for me most of the time. On some days due to outside circumstances, I may have a small protein snack and have my main meal later within the 5 hr. window. I don't stress about working around daily circumstances. I also follow LC 98% of the time. I allow for a little leeway once or twice a month when dining out with friends.

Some people do have cream in their coffee in the A.M. I personally save the diet soda, cream for my 5 hour window. I drink mineral water, oolong /green iced tea and decaf coffee without cream within the 19 hour fasting window.

Best of luck, you will love it here and if like most folks love eating the F-5 way.

Barbara

Barbara,

Thank you so much for all the information. That helps alot!

I have been thinking of giving up coffee anyway and switching to herb tea.

I hope IF helps speed up the weight loss. You know it goes against everything we were all taught....eat 3 meals a day. If you eat only once a day it makes you think your metabolism will slow down. But, it certainly sounds like this works!

I applaud you all that have lost weight and are trying to make your life better!

Thanks again for the help and support, it is wonderful

blessings!

Glad to see the Dec thread, thanks for opening it Just4me.
Plan on staying with the 5 hr window, 12-5 most days, with a Lowcarb main meal towards the end of that time.
Exercise a little every day (dance)
water water water
Today will be a challenge, I am playing music 12-6 at the local mall, tomorrow going out of town for a jam session-guess will just stick the main meal in there somewhere, and drink tea and water in between. Traveling is always my biggest stumbling block.

Hi Lynn,

Fast-5 is not meant to be a fast way to lose weight. The Dr. says some people lose 1 lb a week but everyone's results will vary.

Most people stall on LC for several reasons:
1. The body fights very hard to keep the status quo and doesn't want to give up the weight. It's natural since the body is trying to protect itself for times when it may need the extra weight for survival.
2. Diet sodas and some artificial sweetners stall some folks
3. MSG, High Fructose Corn Syrup & food additives also stall most of us.
4. Not eating enough FAT. According to Dr. Atkins & others LC works great with good fats in our diets.
5. Hidden sugars in foods we wouldn't think have sugars.

I am now eating mainly organic foods & grass fed-beef. I am careful that the cold cuts & store bought cooked chickens don't have a lot of needless additives injected into them. Same goes for many salad dressings, the dry packages of ranch etc.

I used to drink a lot of wine. When I checked the carbs & calories in the amount I was drinking, I knew this was slowing down my losses.
Also many LC snacks can be addictive. I make my own & limit my portions. Water is the only thing that has ZERO carbs. It's very confusing reading the labels because the manufacturers don't want you to know the total carbs/calories for the whole product. Some sour creams & heavy cream are not the real thing. Check the labels and make sure cream is the first ingredient, some say milk which is too high carb. We have to be our own detectives with so many of the packaged foods out there. Some bacon brands have nitrates added and also check the hot dogs to make sure they are whole beef without additives.
Hope this helps. I know it's a lot to think about but just go slowly, changing one thing at a time.

Barbara

Yes, thank you

I would like to loose 2lbs a week....It does not have to be fast, but that would be nice...LOL! I just hope it continues even if just 1 lb. a week instead of stalling.

I am totally into organic, eating nothing processed, mostly fish chicken, and beef with veggies or green salad. I do have heavy whipping cream in my coffee and sweeten with steiva. I plan on making protein shakes with wheatgrass, and lots of super foods.

I do not snack at all.....I eat about twice a day and have no appetite at all....
This IF seems to me to be a way of life and I hope to become healthier on it!

Barbara, I appreciate all your help so very much!

thank you

Lynn

No problem Lynn: Sounds like you are eating very healty. The only thing I would "tweak" is the stevia & cream in your coffee. Have you tried using the DaVinci Syrup in your coffee? I ask because I was stalling on my weight loss with having a Farmer's soda,(diet Splenda sweetened soda with 1 tabelspoon of heavy cream) I stopped the Farmer's sodas for a few days & the scale started to move again. Not exactly sure if it was the cream but just try a few days without the cream & see if the scale goes down a few 10th of a lb.

Barbara,

Thank you.

Yes, I know I need to give up the cream and coffee all together....
It would be nice to get away with it though...LOL
I will try for the next week to substitute herb tea as I do not need to add anything..
Hopefully, then the scale will move in the right direction

thanks again for the support and advice!

YAY! December 1. New Year here we come!!
I'm down 2 pounds from yesterday. Migraine was horrible, but short-lived, thank goodness. Feeling a bit shaky this morning, but the coffee w/ cream and stevia has helped a bit. Hopefully it will be enough to get me through my errands today. Might do a bunless burger at Fuddruckers for break-fast..
My December goal is 100% cheat-free days; IF & LC. Lots of water, lemon juice in my water, iced green tea, etc. Try to be as active as possible.
Going shopping today. Trying to convince DH to at least do LC w/ me, if not IF.
13 pounds to New Year's goal.

Brandnewme, I read on the other thread that you did induction during your window yesterday! Hooray! I know this means alot to you!

bobobear, coffe with cream was tough for me to give up, but I wanted the full benefits of NO CALORIES for nineteen hours so I switched to herbal tea. I read in the f5 book that your body recognizes any calories as a "break fast"...so I was concerned.

I think that when I go to MI, however, I will allow myself coffee w/cream in the AM, because I LOOOVE Tim horton's coffee and I can't get it here! I guess we will see how it effects me!

BY THE WAY everyone... are there any links I can read further discussing the benefits of IF?! I read all the links in the OP, but I would like more. When I google, I always get fasting with juice or fasting with fruits...not the same, you know? Anyone have any recommendations?

HAPPY DECEMBER, gang!

My goals this month:

1. SOTS (stay off the scale lol)! I want to avoid a wiegh-in till the first of the year, but that is a pipe-dream haha! So I will at least make myself hold out until I get to my Mom's house in MI in a couple of weeks...and then I will try to wiegh only ONCE and not wiegh again until the new year...(yeah, good luck with that, huh?! LOL!)

2. Have primarily "BEST" days on my WOE. "BETTER" days have been more and more frequent, because I ADORE patty melts (low carb bread mmmm).

3. Maintain some sort of five hour window through traveling and family parties. I don't know if this means that some days my window will open earlier or later than normal, but I will adjust the opeining the following day to compensate.

Although I have comitted to "no wieghing" right now, I AM due to measure today (every two weeks).

If you don't hear anything about the results, that means they were unremarkable lol.

Happy IF everyone!

Hey SW,

If you google inside quotes "intermittent fasting" you'll find more stuff. Also, try "alternate day eating".

There's TONS of stuff out there.

Eades has 3 blog posts dedicated to it.

ALC has some long threads by adherents.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has some free () articles of studies done on it.

I mentioned a few months ago about wanting to expand the list of resources, but "life" got in the way. I think I'll get on that after finals.

Keep track of what you find, and we can put together a resource sheet ().

Hi...

Thanks for all the replys....so wonderful!

I know I read that too, so I will sub tea to get the no calorie effect...Its healthier anyway. Maybe have coffee on special occasions.

Since, I am new to IF, I was wondering how long most of you have been on IF and is it mostly low carb?

How much weight loss to you typically get every month and or week?

I am going to hope for 2 lbs a week but 1 lb. a week will make me happy

Just curious of the results most are experiencing,

Thank s again for a wonderful place to share!

december already. sounds like everyone is doing well. i am trying to find that recipe for the pumpkin custard w coconut milk that someone posted. i remember it was pretty simple. i think i have all the ingredients. stash'swife, maybe just do some research on water fasting. joel furhman(SP) is considered the expert these days but it's been around a long time. i used to fast in the '80's quite often. there is way more benefit to water fasting because everything else is like a liquid meal to your body. i'll be interested to hear what you come up with. hope you all have a great day.

Hi All! December is here! I canNOT believe it!

My goals for this month are to
a)stick to my 5 hour window
b)walk at least 30 minutes a day
and c) hit onderland

Today is going well so far. I'm going to continute to stick with my 3-8pm window because that seems to work best for me. I've been running around all morning doing errands so I'll do my 30 minute walk later this afternoon.

Hope you're all having a great day!

Hi BrightAngel - that's so smart that you know exactly what days to allow yourself unrestricted eating. I think I will try to stick with IF and low carb the whole month of December - except for 12/24, 12/25 and 12/31. I have parties on 12/24 & 12/25 and my brother's wedding is on 12/31. Now, I will certainly still stick to my window - but it may be more of a CAD reward meal on those days. I am realistic and know I probably will not lose after these days - but it would be wonderful to at least maintain!!! I feel because of IF is why on some social occassions already when I didn't eat what I should have and would have normally gained - I actually maintained my weight! IF is very forgiving!

Barbara - I know you said you used to drink a lot of wine and that slowed your loss. Do you still drink wine at all - maybe a glass a day? I usually have a glass of wine with my 1 main meal - and I've been having good losses.

Bobobear - Hi! I understand what you were saying about just not having an appetite. I'm the same way, I usually don't really get all that hungry - so the IF WOE is great for me! I do notice a few hunger pains later on in the day, but I just drink some water and then I'm ok. It's actually nice having those hunger pains because I'm just not used to them much anymore.

Stash's Wife - I'm with you in that I will try to have more "best" days that the "better" days! I just love that low carb bread too! I buy healthy life and it has like 5 carbs per slice, I think. I don't have LC bread too often - but do allow myself a little bit once or twice a week to make a turkey sandwich for dinner with lot of vegetables! It's better for me, to know I can have LC bread, or LC goodies every once in a while - then to keep myself completely away from these foods! I do much better knowing I have a little freedom to choose what I want to. It's when I really restrict myself that I start wanting the foods I shouldn't have.

Congrats on the weight loss Barbara ! I admire your dedication....you and I have much in common.....middle aged, single and trying to eat well and live a healthy life ! So, I can personally relate to you on many levels !

Also, I second that Hallelujah !WTG on getting into jeans 2 sizes smaller ! What a great feeling that must have been ! That is one of my goals when I have lost 10 more lbs.....I am going to buy another new pair of jeans....when I am able to accomplish this, I will be down 4 sizes in jeans from my original weight when I started LC in September.

Also, you and I have already discussed that I am a fanatic about TV and online shoping.....HSN, QVC and my alltime favorite Jewelry Television ! Sure wish I had an outlet close to me.....you are lucky ! Just wanted to say congrats again ! My hat is off to you ! KUTGW !
