Eat Fat, Get Thin..Monday-Sunday, Jan. 28

Hi ladies..

Yes, MK, Beth said it was very cold in Chicago today and I think it was snowing there, too..We only got about 4 inches, but our driveway is snowfilled..We are waiting for God to take it away..

Sandy: I loved those pics..Bailey and her sweater.. and your neighbor's ice sculpture..which is no small task.

I tried on some pants that I bought in September..not a pretty site..SO...I DO need to cut down on the portions..so I can get back down to 135!!!!! or bust..

Good morning,
Well I finally saw the 142.5 this a.m. On a Monday!!! I was quite happy and hope it sticks around for awhile. I don't think I'm going to hit my goal of 140 by Feb. 10 but I did try on my suits last night and I think they look a lot better than they did this summer so that's a victory too.

Carolyn,
How's the treadmill coming along? Do you do any other type exercise? I ordered a "weight workout" dvd from the library to do at home. I haven't picked it up yet but if it just uses hand weights that might be something you might want to add to your program. I know Barry says we don't have to exercise but I do really think it helps us in lots of ways, not just weight loss. I just don't know how you can reduce your portions much more. I'm afraid I'd be starving. But you know your body better than anybody. Whatever you do, I know you'll do well at it.

Morning!
It's supposed to snow on and off today.
I'm glad the sidewalk is shoveled and the driveway is about half done - but if it really gets to 36* tomorrow, it'll melt anyway!

Sandy - I loved your pics!!

My weight is up this morning too - but I knew it would be - I had way too much fun over the weekend!

Time to get stuff done!

Have a great day Carolyn!

Hi gals..

I am down to 139.8..this is set point set in stone..I really want to get down to 135..I'm going to try to cut back a bit on the fat..and I did make some Carbquik stuff..which always gives me a gain, it seems..

I do the treadmill with the arm things..It is going fine. I used to do bodyflexing, which I love and need to get back to that one, too. I think I have to find a plan that I WILL DO Consistently..LOLOL..The treadmill works well for me. Then I posted a 10 minute exercise plan on the Exercise Board
which has alot of leg lifts, walking, etc. It is hader than you think..for me,anyway.

Sandy: You DO have a higher metabolism than I do and probably than Mary Kay does, too. It's probably because of your muscles OR just the way God
made you...

Mary Kay: Glad you had fun on the weekend..You will be back on track soon.

Have a great day.

Someone shared this link on another thread so I thought I'd share here. It's a lot of info we already know but I did find it motivating.

http://redbook.ivillage.com/health/0,,pc4l,00.html

Carolyn,
You'll get there, just hang in, don't give up. Believe it or not, I used to never exercise at all. Not even walking. I really think I've revved up my metabolism a lot by adding in the exercise. I still like the cardio part the least of all. I find it so boring! But I do like the weights and I think they're doing the most for me too. If it lets me eat more without gaining weight I'll certainly keep it up. I like my food.

Thanks, Sandy..I read that this morning..I know that I need to do my weights.. I have a tension bar that helps..Gotta get it out when I'm watching tv..

I started taking more Benefiber (I buy the cheap stuff at Wallie..right next to it). I'm hoping it will help in the bathroom department..LOLOL..Have you guys ever tried that stuff? You can put it in coffee or even water and it's tasteless... Probably TMI...

Yes, I've used it but for some reason it bugs me, just knowing it's in my drink. Lol. Stupid I know. The magnesium has been all I've needed. I'm so glad you told me about it. And I've been having shanny cakes with some flaxmeal added to them. That does seem to be an ongoing problem with the lc wol.

I made a wonderful beef soup out of leftover roast. I only added one small can of veg-all to a whole crock pot full of soup so I don't think the carbs were too high. I just used the nutri. info from fitday for homemade veg. soup but I don't think it had that many carbs in it. It was sure tasty on a nice cold winter night like tonight.

Is Gary feeling better now? I sure hope you don't get it now.

Hi..

Yes, the magnesium is pretty powerful..sometimes. I forget to take it sometimes and then I wonder why I have a problem..DUH.. Your soup sounds great, Sandy...

Gary is much better..thanks..He only was sick for about 1 1/2 days..which is
good for that stomach flu..and I didn't get it..Thank God!!!

You are SOOO funny, Mary Kay..I've been busy this morning..sorry..

Eri: Basically, it is Atkins with the correct amount of protein for weight loss.
The basis is that protein can cause insulin rises just like carbs can, if you eat too much of it. Dr. Barry Groves is the author of this ebook. You can google his name and order the ebook for around $9.00. He is very helpful.

To figure out how much protein you need, basically take your Lean body mass..(not total weight), and multiply it by .6 to find out the number of grams of protein you need for the total day. Now, most of us ladies (shorties) have a lean body mass of around 100, so that would give us a minimum of 60 grams
a day. You could add about 10 grams to that for exercise. IF you are very
tall or have big muscles, you will need more protein.

The percentages are around 15 percent carbs/20 percent protein/65 percent fat. It is helpful to use www.fitday.com to figure out what you are eating in the percentages..

I'm sure Sandy will chime in with advice, too..or feel free to pm me..

I think this page explains it pretty well without getting the book. It's a great woe, you feel very satisfied, and you really get quite a few carbs a day compared to Atkins. Especially Atkins induction. It's definitely NOT a quick weight loss diet but it's a great all around woe for long term health and weight loss. Good luck.

I didn't mean you shouldn't get the book, it's great and really explains everything very well. I meant that the link I posted would explain the basics until you can get the book. As I re-read my post I thought it sounded like I didn't think the book was worth it and that is not the case at all.

Hi..

Here's a thread for finding lean body mass..

http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/lbm

There is a better way through measuring, etc..but I think this is okay..let me try it and let you know..

MK: I'm going to have to give you a raise!!!

It's a quickie method, but accurate for our purposes..My Lean body mass is around 97 pounds...that's about right.

Yes, I did it but I don't know.....it says mine is 105.57 lean body weight with an ideal lean body weight being 105.83. According to that I don't have much extra fat. Last time I had my body fat % measured it was still above 30. I'd really love to have it measured by calipers instead of the impedance method.

Yes, that sounds right for you, Sandy..

The dunking method is the most accurate..I'm sure there are places in KC that will dunk you..don't you think??? LOLOLO

The caliphers aren't that great because sometimes people are bigger certain places and skinnier other places..

This is a great link to find out how many calories it takes to maintain..

http://www.caloriecontrol.org/calcalcs.html

Mine was around 1500..It does take age into consideration, too.

1950-2210 calories to maintain. I didn't know whether to use moderate or heavy activity so I just took both and figured somewhere in the middle would work.

Sandy: You know that makes sense for you because you can eat more with your muscles and exercise program.. This is for maintenance, of course..so
if I want to lose anything I would have to cut back to 1100-1200 consistently..
That is my problem...I'm not totally consistent on the calorie amount..

It says my ideal weight is 135 and my BMI is 22.44379627988483. I weighed 135 for about 5 minutes about 3 years ago, lol. Actually, just under 135 but I didn't work at maintaining it very well.

I'm not very consistent either. I wish I could be more. I had taken some before pics last year and when my computer died I lost them. I guess I didn't back them up. Anyway, a friend who went to Mexico with us last Feb. gave me some copies of pics they took while we were there and there was a couple in my swimsuit and I think I can tell a real difference especially around my waist so that made me feel good. DH keeps telling me he can tell my body is changing but I never know whether to really believe him or not. He's a little prejudiced I think since he loves me, lol. Plus, he would never tell me "hey, that makes your butt look big", roflmao. We've been married way long enough that he learned that lesson a long time ago, lol.
