Looking for info. on low glycemic eating

This is what I was greeted with when I logged in this morning.....

"Hello Maureen in MI it appears that you have not posted on our forums in months, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?"

Yes, it's true, I have not been here for months, and it shows in my waistline.

I would like to explore a low glycemic way of eating as opposed to the Atkins I've done before.

Does anyone know of the "definitive" book to recommend or website to visit?

Thanks.

Maureen,

Try a search on Rob Thompson, MD and you'll find the Glycemic Load Diet.

Good Luck!

Maureen - As DixieMoon mentioned, Rob Thompson's book is a great choice....I eat more the GLD (Glycemic Load Diet) more than anything.....we had a thread for a while, but most posters went in another direction.

Let me know if you want more info......

I have just started eating according to Low Glycemic Load by Rob Thompson again after going way way way off track with junk food and sugar! I love this plan--it's the most doable for me and the one that I can do without cravings and without binging.

Rachel, I couldn't agree more...and you were the one who got me pointed in that direction. It was the one plan that I didn't feel deprived on......after playing around for a while, I think that's the plan for me too!

I too am doing a low Glycemic Load diet (actually Weight Watchers Flex...counting points but eating mostly low GL...I have portion control issues), I'm also going to the gym now (doing 1-1 1/2 hours there 4-5 days per week...which is already helping my mood and outlook!). I also reccomend the Rob Thompson book...excellent information.

Hi, Cindy!! Good to see you!!

I have been back on GL since 10/10...now I just need to not go down the junk food trail when I hit my goal this time!! I already feel much better and in control of my eating. What a relief!!

Rachel, I guess today will be my start date....I took a look at all the different plans I had been examining, trying, etc., and thought, why not stick with the one that works for ME?? I want to take off 10 lbs (being short does not help!) and it may be slow, but at least I won't feel deprived. I looked at all the things I liked.....cereal occassionally for bfast, not worrying about milk, fruit, having an occassional glass of red wine, eating dark chocolate (occassionally) and eating low carb. What more could I ask for????

Momto 3 - Rob's book is good. Makes a lot of sense. I also started back at the gym this week.....trying to make it 3x a week and if I ende up going more or doing extra than hooray for me!!!!

Cindy, I am right there with you. I am also short...and I came to the same conclusion as you did about which plan to choose. I sometimes want the quick fix of Scarsdale or Kimkins but I am a dreadful binger if I start feeling deprived and GL is the one plan where I don't feel deprived one bit. Good luck with your ten pounds!!

Rachel, thanks. It's a constant battle with being short, as you know, and I have a more curvy shape anyway!!! I decided that I have to quit jumping around and be consistent with eating and exercising and I do believe the rest will follow! I think the moving around had been what has cause me to just stand still! (If that makes sense? )

Cindy, it's funny that I do know what you mean--I've been a plan jumper for years and the best I can do when I plan jump is initially lose three or four and then gain it back. It's a funny way to maintain (and seems to work, I guess!) but I am now ready to lose a few more and know I need to be consistent. And stay with one plan, instead of trying to figure out the rules for twenty of them!!

I've been doing Nutrisystems which is low GI. I can tell you, low GI really works! I wouldn't do NS if I had time to cook my own meals though because it's kind of expensive. I know a lot of people do it using their own foods & there is some free information about doing that on their Bulletin boards....
