If you are going from K/E to high fat/moderate-high calories, then you may expect to have a gain. Your are throwing your body all over the place, so it may need a moment (or a week or two) to adjust. But once the adjustment is made, things should be fine.

Woah, I just saw the 300 calories a day. Ummm... why? You aren't eating enough protein for your body sweetie. You are hungry because you are literally starving your body of nutrients and protein. It can't run on salad.

If you are doing Kimmers stuff, I'm sure you know her often repeated facts about 1 lb being from 3500 extra calories eaten.... and that when you eat extra carbs or even just extra food or salt, you will gain only water weight.
You will probably see a little gain on the scale after some chicken tacos, but its NOT going to be fat. There is no way you will eat thousands of calories worth of tacos to actually gain that much fat in one night. Its only going to be water weight and the weight of the food. Don't let it stop you from eating normally! I understand the mental challenge of it... put away the scale if its going to bother you.

I would definitely recommend starting to up your food intake. Esp now that you are so close to goal, you should be adding in things like fruits. You need to start eating more to rev up your metabolism again.

April - eating only 300 calories per day is dangerous, and in the long run is going to sabatoge your weight loss efforts. Please read this article

Quote:
Why does a very low calorie intake slow down weight loss?
Quite simply, your body goes into 'starvation mode'. This mechanism, which is thought to have evolved as a defence against starvation, means the body becomes super efficient at making the most of the calories it does get from food and drink. The main way it does this is to protect its fat stores and instead use lean tissue or muscle to provide it with some of the calories it needs to keep functioning. This directly leads to a loss of muscle, which in turn lowers metabolic rate so that the body needs fewer calories to keep ticking over and weight loss slows down. Of course, this is the perfect solution if you're in a famine situation. But if you're trying to lose weight, it's going to do little to help you shift those unwanted pounds.

So how many calories should I have to prevent starvation mode?Unfortunately, there's no single answer to this question. As everyone's metabolism varies in the first place, so too will the point when the body starts to use muscle to provide it with calories in a 'famine-type' situation.

As a general rule though, most nutrition experts recommend never going below 1,000-1,200 calories a day if you're dieting on your own. It's also worth bearing in mind that the body doesn't suddenly 'enter' and 'leave' starvation mode, like crossing the border from Devon into Cornwall. It's a gradual process - so you don't need to panic if you do go below your calorie intake very occasionally.

What's the link between muscle and metabolism?
The metabolic rate - the rate at which the body burns calories - is partly determined by the amount of muscle we have. In general, the more muscle we have, the higher our metabolic rate; the less muscle we have, the lower our metabolic rate. This explains why men, who have a high proportion of muscle, have a faster metabolism than women, and why a 20-year-old has a higher metabolism than a 70-year-old - again, they have more muscle.

Ultimately, muscle burns a lot more calories than fat so when we lose muscle, our metabolic rate drops and we burn fewer calories. In fact, research shows that the body loses a proportionately high amount of muscle with a very low calorie intake and this may considerably suppress metabolism by up to 45 percent.

This explains why it's crucial to do as much as you can to protect your metabolic rate, especially when you're dieting. And this means dieting sensibly with a suitable, rather than a very low calorie intake so that you lose fat rather than muscle.

You Really need to get those calories up! I did Atkins induction the right way for around 3 mths(stayed at the 18-20 carb mark), began including GL principles so I could have fruit and Then I decided to do K/E so I could get the remaining pounds off that were causing back pain. I had several days a week I ate a tad less than what you're doing. Not Good!!!

Transition to higher cals/carbs by slowly adding in extra nutrient rich veggies to what you're already eating and increasing the amount of lean protein, after a few days bump everything up again and add in some extra fat. After aprox. 2 wks, give or take a couple days, I've got my calories up to around 1300 and my carbs are up a little over 90 ....no water gain for me (I'm now doing BFFM). If you Do gain water wt it won't hang around long once you're firmly into Atkins. Hold off on the fruit a bit until you're up to a more acceptable calorie/carb range or you probably will get a jump in water wt.

I Strongly urge you to do some kind of wt. training program to rebuild the lean body mass you've most likely lost. Because of T-Tapp I actually increased mine while eating stupidly but I'm almost a pure mesomorph.

I could not hack the k/e for more than two days and after a few weeks of kimkins and not losing anywhere as fast as the other people doing it on this board, I abandoned ship and went back to regular ol' atkins, just a bit more low fat than some. I now am also having a few berries here and there and low-carb tortillas ( 3 net carbs per). I feel a lot better and have more energy for working out. I am at around 1100-1300 calories average and am losing between 1.5 and 2 lbs a week. I also drink alcohol on weekends in moderation. The best thing is that what I am doing now feels great, has tons of variety ( I even stuck with it on a week long camping trip and lost 1 lb) and I know I can do this for the long haul. I felt the Kimmer plans were for people who have lifestyles different than mine- ie: not as into food/entertaining. You will definitely gain a few lbs when you switch since your glycogen molecules (I think this is what it is) fill back up with water. It is not fat. As others have said, that will stabilize soon.

I think it would be a good idea. if you are feeling deprived you are setting yourself up for a big fall at some point.

go back on induction and then work into OWL.

I have added fruit back in among other healthy carbs and still lose weight. (I have added them in gradually along the way).

I've never done k/e, but have done Stillman's...

I found the trick when making the switch is to do it very very slowly! Do not go right back to induction..instead..slowly add stuff back in. When transitioning..I would simply add back in one serving of veggies for 2-3 days..then add back in some fat ( like a little butter when making my eggs...or a little full-fat salad dressing..etc.) for 2-3 days. It usually takes me a good 1-2 weeks to be back to induction levels.

When I've done it this way..I have never re-gained any weight..and usually will stay at my current weight..then slowly begin to lose again ( not as dramaticcly when doing Stillman's..but still losing)

You're hungry all the time because you're starving!! My goodness!!

I'm doing M/E and here's my sample diet:

2-3 poached eggs in the morning, if 2 I have 2 slices of bacon, if three then just the eggs.

1/4 cup of cream in my coffee.

Lunch: two slices of pot roast or tri-tip, with juices.
Crystal light slushie!!

Snack: two to four deviled egg halves, depending on how hungry I feel

Dinner: several slices of pot roast, tri-tip, or chicken, in juices. Two large cups of Crystal light.

Water, water, water all day, 1-2 emergenC packets, and one Men's one a day vitamin (no iron in the pill, since I get so much iron from food)

Sometimes a cup of dessert: frozen half and half with splenda and cocoa powder.

I eat a lot!!! And not only do I have a ton of energy (almost manic energy, like I can't slow myself down LOL) I have no weakness, no headaches, no nausea, and I've lost four pounds in three days.

I do know either it will slow or I might start to feel yucky after awhile, but as long as I 1) feel good and I'm 2) still losing, I'm sticking with it.
