Any experiences with the blood type diet????
Has anyone ever heard of or done the "Eat Right For Your Blood Type" diet/WOE? I think that it is sometimes called the BTD (Blood Type Diet). I have a friend who swears by this!
I have not read the book, but checked the web site out. I have type 0 blood and according to this theory, I should avoid certain kinds of cheeses!!!! Any insight? Thanks mo |

I personally haven't done it but my former manager lived by it. She found that once she went on it, in addition to losing some weight, all her fatigue and allergy issues went out the door. She also managed to get pregnant when nothing else would work. I was doing Atkins at the time I worked for her and she said based on my blood type, O Neg, that I was eating the right things for my type and that no wonder I was feeling better.
Hope that answers your question. |

DH and I did the Eat Right For Your Type diet program and both of us actually gained weight and we felt worse! Like Barb stated, some people do very well on this program, but like many other "diets" I tried, this was just another setup for failure for me. I think if you're seriously interested in losing weight, there are much better alternatives than this one.

According to it I should steer clear of any sort of meat. Oh wait...neutral would be chicken and turkey, but everything else I should avoid. I should also avoid all sorts of cheeses. Eating lots of those 2 things are what has made me feel good and lose weight. So I don't buy it.
Except that wintergreen is on my avoid list...I loathe wintergreen, so I guess that must be right! LOLOL!!! |

I read about it but didn't know my bloodtype. So I called my doctor's office and it's never been tested.
I don't donate or accept blood so I guess I'll never know. I wonder if there is a home test to find out your type? |

I have two of the books and it may be coincidental but I am type A and all of my food allergies are on the avoid list. I do not follow it specifically but I do try to stay away from avoid foods just because of the allergy thing. I did follow it very closely for while but did not lose any weight. Didn't gain any either but I did feel good.
I reread all of my foods and nutrition books over time so I think I will pull out these and start on them again just to refresh my memory.

I have heard it works best for O blood types (since that is the lowest carb plan) I am an O and It worked well for my allergies but didn't work for weight loss. Atkins works as well for my allergies (wheat, milk, etc) and I can lose weight if I am really careful.

he eliminates wheat, dairy, soy... common allergens. This is a common naturopathic practice - not anything to do with blood type. But for a lot of people, this is the first time they've done this - so when they eliminate these foods, they feel better and think "wow, must be this blood type diet". And the ones for whom it doesn't work, just move on to something else (or come here
)They talk about lectins, but a lot of the diet is based on some research on allergies by blood type. I personally think you would get a much better individualized diet by getting your food allergies tested. What I don't like about this diet is that it makes people afraid to eat things specified as "avoids" because of "blood type specific lectins" which he never has really detailed in the 10 years since his book came out. so, O's are told to avoid things like coconut (and coconut oil) and avocado, asian pears, bitter melon, vinegar, nutmeg, mace, cauliflower, mushrooms, mustard greens, olive, peppers, rhubarb.. if you are non secretor, the list gets longer. Apples are a nono. for pete's sake! Then for each type, different fruits and vegetables are "avoids".. and if you try to find out why, what research determined the decision for what food, so you can decide for yourself if this might be important for you, there is no real documentation linking the specific foods to alll the research he has put up on his site. You just have to take his word for it. If you don't care, and just want to follow a list of foods and see what happens.. then this is the diet for you. but if you want to understand why you aren't supposed to eat whatever you aren't supposed to eat on the diet, forget it. Imo, it is easier to just drop the wheat, dairy, soy for a while and see if you feel better. If not, get a food allergy test. At least with Atkins, you know why you are not eating what you don't eat. And with knowledge, you can better tailor the diet to your "individuality". Last edited by aloise : 07-13-2006 at 10:15 AM. |

I read a little when sis was thinking about it, I have type o so I am fine low carbing. I knew that ! But he agrees I thought the great energy and losing over 50 pounds in less than 5 months was a clue.
If you ( the op) likes it and can follow and have great results than try it. |
