Inches-Off Diet

Has anyone tried Stillman's Inches-Off diet? It's pretty much the opposite of Atkins, as you eat as LITTLE protein and fat as possible. I've been maintaining at goal for 3 years and generally stick to Somersizing, but I like to experiment with different ways of eating just to keep things interesting. (I gather this is what Stillman had in mind with his zillions of different diets.) I'm on my 4th day of Inches-Off, haven't lost or gained anything, feel great (more "regular), and my belly is flatter. All good!

I'm curious as to why broccolli is not on the acceptable veggie list when every other green vegetable is on there. Any ideas? Maybe it's a mistake? All my info on the diet is from the Sticky posted on this forum. Thanks for including it here, Kayjwag!

Maybe because of bloating issues?

Hmmmm, interesting. I didn't think broccolli caused any more bloating than cauliflower or onions, which are both on the acceptable veggie list. But maybe that is it. Thanks for your reply.

Because Broccolli is higher in protein the other Vegetables.

I lost a total 7 lbs following Inches-Off for 3 weeks and I was already near my goal wt at the time, actually 7 from goal..this plan got me to my goal wt.

The major difference in this plan is that is very little protein, just about all carbs. The carbs that are allowed are "good" "complex carbs. Generally all your meals should consist of Fruits & Vegetables that is listed, in other words never make a meal out of rice or cereal - you may have rice but in limited servings..here your "rice" becomes a small side dish. (I had Brown Rice since it taste better plain, plus I never did like white rice) Odd coming from a Cajun -lol

This plan takes a little patience, you won't start to show loss until after the first week and Inches off until after the 2nd or 3rd as this plan "pulls" the fat out between the muscle fibers as well as the fat nesting on top.

Right you are, Kayjwag! I just looked it up in my calorie counter and broccoli IS high in protein. It's also spelled with only one L which I never knew either!

You've done an amazing job with your weightloss - congratulations! Were you on Atkins most of the time you were losing?

I'm glad to know it might take me a while to notice a change from the Inches-Off diet. I'm only on my 5th day but I'm definitely less bloated. If I can drop a couple of pounds, too, that would be a great bonus. In the meantime I'm really enjoying all the delicious fruit that's in season.

It must be hard to eat in a restaurant on Inches-Off, though. There aren't too many places that serve brown rice and veggies cooked in a drop of olive oil. That's what I'm having for dinner at home tonight, yum. It's so easy eating out on Atkins or Somersizing.

What other Stillman plans have you tried since you've been maintaining?

For the most part of my weight loss I followed Atkins 72 plan but I also experimented with various plans including BFFM, Weight-Watchers etc just to see how my body would respond best or least..through all the trial and error I have discovered what foods helped / stalled or stoped my weight loss. It wasn't until I got from within the last 20 to lose that I started experimenting with Stillman plans.

Now I generally follow his Stay-Slim eating plan, which is like Inches Off with CHicken, Fish etc....

Where can I get more detailed info about the Stay-Slim eating plan? I really appreciate your posting the Stickies on the Stillman diets, but didn't see one for Stay-Slim (except for the mention of its similarity to South Beach).

I'm finding my appetite reduced tremendously on Inches-Off, and have a hard time eating even 1000 calories some days. Funny since I NEVER had appetite suppression eating high protein/lo-carb the way so many people do. Seems the scale will HAVE to start moving downward at this rate, though it hasn't yet.

I never lost any inches on inches off.

I did it religiously for 6 weeks and my thighs remained the same! It is probably okay for maitenence but I don't think it "pulls fat" from anywhere! JMHO!

Sorry to hear it, Saracat, but thanks for letting us know. I won't get my hopes up too high then.
