Dr.Phil's Ultimate weightloss solution

Has anyone ever done or know someone who did this? My sister is thinking about it. I bought the book and am reading it so I can help her with it.

Being a low carb gal myself I am not looking at the plan for me, but if she thinks it will help her than I will research it.
I was just wondering if anyone had any luck or not.
TIA

I have the book too but haven't done the plan...I know, then why am I responding!

I found the parts where he investigates the reasons behind your weight gain very helpful...starts to change the relationship you have with food!

Sorry I couldn't have been of more help!

Stats: 260/217/161 - then re-evaluate
WOE: DrPhil plan - mostly
I did Atkins for a year and a half. I could not get passed 237. I would bounce back up to 244, and back and forth. Atkins didn't work for me because I would cheat with one meal maybe once a week and then gain 3lbs and the week's success would be lost. Not being able to have one meal off plan without gaining 3lbs was not working for me. I learned so much through doing Atkins, reading the book and reading these boards. I read the Dr. Phil book and decided to give it a try, but I took what I learned from Atkins and what I learned about my success dieting and combined it with the Dr. Phil eating plan. By not being just low carb I can eat off plan and not gain any weight that day. I just have to watch my portion control. I still hold on to the no bread/no sugar/no caffeine rule. But now I can eat fruit and veggies all I want and I think my body is happier for it. It just didn't make sense to me to not being able to go over a veggie limit or not lose weight. How can eating veggies stop you from losing weight?

These days I eat a whole grain cereal with non-fat milk and a banana in the morning. I have turkey burgers (without the bun) with mustard and either some cut up salad veggies or some fruit and fat free cottage cheese for lunch. And then dinner is either a chicken breast or salmon steak with veggies. I am having great success with this. I was 217 this morning, with a 2lb loss for last week.

One thing I loved about the Dr. Phil book is that he goes into all the psychological reason that we eat. Do all the quizzes in the book! You may feel silly at the time, I did, but working through them really enabled me to halt my emotional eating. Or at least easily recognize when it was happening and then find a way to avoid getting caught up in it. Don't be afraid to try a different way if what you're doing isn't working. I too was afraid of gaining all my weight back, but I haven't.

Dr. Phil lost a lawsuit involving that diet.

It appears he didn't do proper research or something. Something about false claims. It is posted somewhere here on the board. I may have this wrong but I remember the suit. I can't stand Dr. Phil anyway so I remember being snarky about it and laughing. Just check it out a bit.

I read diet books like they're trashy novels, but I just cannot get through his book. It is just so boring and the actual eating plan is your basic low-fat low cal low everything kind of diet I just can't stick to. I think his "steps" are all common sense. I like to watch his show sometimes but I just do not think he is the diet guru for me.

I lost 82 lbs on that plan back in 2004. Am still basically eating the same way. Love eating all the veggies I want, but I eat more protein than that plan calls for too. Yes, it is "boring" but let's face it, it's eating just any old thing is what made many of us fatties in the first place, isn't it?? So, if a person really wants to get the fat off, than yah gotta learn to do "boring" and enjoy it more than you enjoy "exciting", if you call Atkin's "exciting" that is. I have 3 fruit exchanges each day too. Love the fruit, used to not eat fruit in the old fat ass days. My dh being diagnosed with diabetes is what started us both on this journey, funny how being scared by a bad health problem can suddenly make us not be so "bored" with eating healthy. Any plan can become boring though, if a person is not really into it, I don't care what plan it is. I'm going right now to have my 2 cups of sliced strawberries, one of my evening snacks!!! One of my favorite foods. I also don't watch Dr.Phil except when he has "weight challenged" people on. But I keep the book on my nightstand anyway. I wish anyone that tries this plan well!!!!!

The fruit wa a major seller for her. I am lucky Atkins has the ones I will eat. I never was a big fruit fan. She loves it. I just hope and prays she finds something.

I was fortunate enough to also have the help of a great dietitian and doctor!! It took me from March 1, 2004 till October 17, 2004 to reach goal. Then we went to Disneyland and I added desserts for that little vacation. Then I was able to stick to plan except for when we went out to eat, I allowed a nice dessert, but never at home. In Jan. 2005 I took a "foray" into messing myself up because of reading one of the posts on here about "cheating foods", something like that, and it started me on Nutella, of all things!!! Messed me up, I went up and down for several months before I finally had enough of that!!! But that kind of thing happens to most everyone at some point! Heck, even Oprah can't stay on her own plan all the time either, and she can afford to have people that hand feed her only the "right" foods if she wants too. We are only human after all!!
Take care!!!

You are too funny! I love the Oprah comment.
It's just hard to see someone you love struggle when you are losing the weight.

Yes, and it really IS a struggle, especially in our culture. Sigh. I wish I could give all of us a big hug to help get through the day when we have those "bad" days. And I also think this food thing is an addiction.

Keep it going folks!!!!

Food is very much an addiction. I always hear Rosane Barr , she said it is the worst addiction it is everywhere and you NEED it. You can't quit cold turkey so that is just rough.

I used Dr. Phil plus the 1992 Atkins (but no net carbs or frankenfoods) very successfully.
Now I'm a maintainer.

Yay Cinnamon!!! I finally found that to maintain, I allow no more than 4 starch exchanges per day, usually have 2 at lunch always every day. Then I can have a small baked potato or some brown rice mixture or noodles with dinner, but don't always feel the need to do that. I eat around 12 servings of veggies per day, have them with each meal and the 3 exchanges of fruit per day. I find that doing this has been my Godsend, if you will. I never counted carbs though, just starch, meaning breads, potato, whole grain stuff, like that. The veggies I have are cooked in the morning with eggs substitute, raw at lunch, and steamed at dinner. Plus I might keep a bowl of raw ones on the kitchen counter to nibble on all day, depends on the day and the mood. So my compulsion to eat has just switched to veggies and fruits instead of junk, basically. And it took alot of trial and error to figure it out too, a learning process. I'm sure many others on here have discovered the same thing, there is no such thing as a 2 month diet, or 4 month or whatever. Has to be a lifestyle change, and it helped that my dh also eats this way, no children at home, so don't keep the "bad" stuff in the house. I do miss the baking sometimes, but I make dh sugar free baked stuff.

Success to you all!!!!!!!

If you want a really great book that is written by a real doctor, an endocrinologist, try the Schwarzbein Principle. It is to me the best plan out there for someone who wants to make long term healthy lifestyle changes. It is moderate low carb but it is also very good at explaining all the benefits that healthy nutrition provides. It is not a quick loss program at all, but I think it is the optimum way to eat for life.

The only starches I eat are sweet potato and sweet corn and not every day.

I have 4-5 vegetable servings a day and 1 fruit.

I've been maintaining for over a year. I'm quite healthy and energtic for an old timer.

Cinnamon, I eat way more than that, but if I didn't exercise alot I would have to cut back my servings too much to suit me, lol. But I'm almost 60 so as I age I assume I won't be able to ride the bike or walk quite as far as time goes on. Thank heaven's for exercise bikes!!!!! It has saved dh and my life!!

I'm glad to hear that. I didn't think there was anyone who ate more than I do.

Since I don't eat starches when I go out sometimes I order two entrees.
My husband always jokes that I eat more than he does and he's 5'11" and 170 lbs.

I really liked Dr. Phil's book. A lot of the stuff he talked about was very true for me. I am an emotional eater and he goes into that problem at length which was extremely helpful for me. You can do low carb and Dr. Phil's program at the same time.

That's right, and that is the main difference between Atkin's and low carb, we don't worry about ketosis and getting "into" and "out of" it, you may over indulge here and there, but you get right back into your plan after any splurge or whatever you call it, and you're on track again. It has saved my life, and is STILL saving my life. Thank goodness for it!!!!

It's too bad he has to do all those crapolla "relationship" stuff, I never watch any of that, I don't care who is hosting the show, pure garbage!!! But that's just my opinion, seems to be plenty of other's who love the shallow end of the pool. lol

SUCCESS to each of us, no matter what we are doing!!!

There's nothing shallow about that Jenny. I think changing our emotional reasons for eating is key to success.
I had wondeful results using Dr. Phil for the emotional part and Dr. Atkins for the eating plan.
My weight and health speak for themselves.
And not a lick of exercise but I guess I should. I do walk about an hr a wk.
