Raw Diet

Hey! I've been posting on the Atkins board because I'm currently in induction on the Atkins diet.

But I tried the Raw Diet for about three days a month ago and I def lost some weight and certainly felt good. But it was just too hard to keep up with. I'm definately a meat eater and I couldn't stand it for too terribly long. Maybe it's just the shock of going from a normal diet to complete veganism all of a sudden. All I know is that I probably couldn't keep it up for very long, but I was wondering if anybody out there has tried it and found success?

More curious than anything

I've cut a lot of animal products out of my diet recently. But going raw would be hard for me, I just think I'd get bored quickly. It would be great not to have to cook but there would be a lot of chopping veggies! I have a family to feed and it would be extremely difficult for me to have to cook food for everyone else but not be able to eat it.

heard of it... im not dieting but even if i was, id never go raw. I mean, raw vegetables, fruits, nuts and unprocessed grains can only last you so long before you go crazy! I dont know about you but i LOVE meats, eggs, cheeses, cooked grains, sauteed veggies and even evil processed foods like sf pudding. You gotta have some fun!

I thought this was going to be about raw meat! I (and a lot of others I know) looooove the raw meat and eggs. You can be raw and not give up the meat, it's the most nutritious way to consumer it anyway. A lot of times it's only rare because of the great taste that searing gives it.

i've done raw for prolonged periods. but i think ultimately, it does mean consuming too much sugar....if for no other reason just to get enough calories. there is a lot of binge eating amoung vegan raw foodists. i would end up getting really hungry after a period of time and it seemed that there was nothing i could eat that would help. i decided that at those times my body was probably crying out for more nourishment. consuming raw meat and eggs would make a difference i'm sure. there's a book currently on the shelves that talks about eating meat/fish rare if not raw so as to still get the nutritional value. i do eat plenty of raw vegies and some fruit and nuts each day. eating raw will absolutely give you a good intestinal cleanse....sometimes it was a little scary.....'what! you don't have a public restroom?!'

I think raw is one of the most difficult paths you can take unless you're willing to spend a lot of time and money blending, juicing, dehydrating and so on. However, I think that eating more fresh fruits and vegetables and even raw nuts is healthy.

I would never push raw animal products on anyone.... not mainstream enough but they certainly do cut back on cooking time and dishes
Take meat out of fridge. Eat.
Ok I like it spiced, or with melted cheese on top... but eggnog is also a beautiful thing, as are smoothies with raw yolks and berries. (can't stand egg whites in any form)

FD, i know that raw yolks are one of the most healthy foods on the planet. it seems if you added the whites to a smoothie, you wouldn't even notice them. my naturapath says always eat the eggs with runny yolks which basically means over easy or poached. i don't eat many eggs because they seem to increase my heartburn (or whatever it is). i may start having them in my smoothie. as for meat, i eat it pretty rare. what about other meats like chicken? i've been talking about making jerky maybe i'll do it. we certainly have enough meat since we get it by the side. otherwise i'm with rachel. plenty of raw vegies, fruit and always raw on the nuts!

I've had raw poultry - chicken and turkey, I sliced it very thin and marinated it in lime juice and ate warmed with melted butter and fresh basil leaves. It was DELICIOUS, the meat looked cooked and was extremely tender. I haven't really bothered with it lately though, I tend to be much more careful in my handling of raw poultry than other meats and it's too much of a bother right now with the baby around, too much preparation with no chance of attending to him in the middle of it. I haven't had it rare.. a friend of mine does chicken and coconut oil pemmican though and says it's excellent! It's on the list of things to try one day soon.

I ate raw last fall for 5 days and dropped 10.5 pounds. Eating salads with mustard and fruit in the morning did get old fast. I then shifted to Eat to Live principles, which is a book by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. Basically, I ate raw fruits, raw vegetables, cooked lentils, raw nuts and seeds, raw berries, and cooked vegetables. I lost an additional 4 pounds in 7 days for a total of 14.5 pounds in 12 days.

I decided yesterday to eat raw for days. I leave town in two weeks, so that is my maximum. I am thinking one week.

The longest I've done it is for 7 days. I did lose a lot of weight and water and felt very "clean" inside from all the fiber. I don't think I could do it for a very long time because for me it took up a lot of time and effort, plus you have to be very focused. I do try to eat a lot of my veggies raw now though. But I love eggs and baked chicken!

I don't eat all raw foods, but try to eat some every day. On days when you wish to cleanse your body, you can eat or drink raw, fresh fruit and/or vegetable juice and/or fresh fruit and vegetables or any combination you wish. You can do this for one day or two weeks or more, whatever you're comfortable with.

On regular days, I just have fresh fruit juice or fruit in the morning, as much as you wish. For dinner or supper you can have meat, but you can't eat it with a carb or a fruit, just vegetables, cooked or raw. You can also have a carb, like pasta or bread, but again, only with vegetables, cooked or raw, not with protein or fruit.

If you want fruit other than in the morning, eat it aprox. 1/2 hour before eating anything else. Wait at least three hours before eating fruit after any meal. You can have pizza occasionally or mix carbs and proteins, but strive for lots of fruits and vegetables and meals properly combined.

I have lost a lot of weight, have lots of energy, am not hungry and finally don't crave sweets all the time (a BIG problem for me!).

Good luck with whatever plan you choose to follow!
