Anyone do the Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
I haven't seen any posts about it, but I may have just missed them. Is anyone doing the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)? DH and I started, then stopped due to money, and are considering starting it again when we have enough money.

I incorporate the recommended foods that are on my food plan. For example, I avoid pickles * other fermented foods, milk (but not yogurt), grains. It helped me eliminate the IBS that I had over 10 years ago.

SCD is a strict grain-free, lactose-free, and sucrose-free diet... usually followed by people with digestive problems. I heard about it when I saw a cook book at the library... some of the recipes were pretty yummy.

The book that explains the specific carb diet is "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" and you can find it on the internet. I think it is explained under scdiet. I found that it isn't so much a weight loss diet as it is a healthy intestine diet, with the word diet simply meaning a plan of eating.

SCD is how my family started lc'ing. many don't think of it as lc because of no limit on fruit but compared to the starchy american diet it is still lc. my daughter who had severe IBD lost 70# and all her illness as well. it is awesome. the other side effects are soft beautiful skin, high energy, and much more. i think it is worth it to give it a try. if you look at the breaking the vicious cycle site, you will also find a large following of people/families with some autism. good luck.

My autistic son is GFCF (gluten free, casien free), and is very basically on the diet. I've done some reading on the specific carbohydrate diet and would like to do some more reading before I restrict him any more (ever try finding stuff to eat that has no milk or milk by products or no wheat or wheat by products...not easy in itself!), he's also no peanuts and very little soy. Luckily he's not a very picky eater and loves his veggies!
