Chances are you're stuck because your carbs are too high. The purpose of the egg fast (protein fast) is to eat as few carbs as possible, so no peppers, onions, veggies.

BTW, peppers & onions are fairly high in carbs so if you eat them often, that might be a reason for your stall.

You can fix the eggs however you like, but most people eat them hardboiled (no fat) to lower the calories as well.

If I'm reading correctly, you just started 20 days ago?

Instead of trying a fast (which I believe have a place), I'd take a closer look at how you've been eating these past 20 days. Did you do an induction? Was it a clean one? Did you track your food? Have you been eating processed foods? Cured meats? Low carb products? Too much dairy (cheese, cream)? Have you been drinking water?

In my opinion (and only my opinion), considering a fast so early in this journey might be a recipe for frustration. It takes a long time to change eating and thinking habits. There are no quick fixes, even in low carb.

If you want to make sustainable changes, do it the way the long term successful low carbers did it.

Thanks for your help, but i have been gaining and losing the same three pound, and now not even that. Anything I eat is what I cook at home so I am very careful, also I started taking CLA I think that screwed me up so I stopped taking it, thats where I see the stall! I just wanted to see if egg fast would help me a bit here..........so no veggis? can I have tea with cream and Equal? Also a lot of ppl hve been saying that the more you incorporate Eggs in your diet the more you lose.......is it true????

Logical,

With all due respect and support, my suggestion would be to do the program according to plan. It's only been 20 days. In another thread, you talk about eating peanut butter, which is not on induction.

Flirting with 3 pounds in 20 days is really nothing in the long term. I understand the short term frustration, but success on low carb isn't about the short term.

It's about building better habits. In my experience and opinion, those habits start with how we talk to ourselves. Because what goes on in our minds translates to our actions.

Start right now with a clean, by the book, induction.

Do the deal according to the experts before you start tweaking it.

It depends on how much cream and Equal, from a carb viewpoint. Are you counting those carbs, BTW? Each Equal packet is 1, tea is 1.2 per 12 oz kitchen mug, plus the calories from cream.

If you're eating peanut butter, skip it!

There's nothing magic about eggs, just that they're very low in carbs (.6 per large egg). Figure on an egg fast, even if you're eating 10 a day, that's only 700 calories and 6 carbs?

It would be a good way to get into ketosis quickly, then stick to a strict Induction for at least a couple of weeks.

Check the thread "Ivana Trump ...." for others that did the egg thing.

Equal is a problem for a lot of people. Get Splenda - better yet, use Torani or Davinci syrups instead of a powdered sweetener.

I agree with others that you probably haven't done a clean induction (especially if peanut butter has been a part of your regimen). I would suggest that before you try a protein fast, go to the challenge board and check out KISS. It's a very clean version of Atkins that lets you have veggies, and helps you identify culprits that are stalling you. That's my two cents worth.

I read in womans world that there is something in eggs that
aid in weight loss. Some kind of amino acid or something. I still
have the magazine , just not in front of me right now

I'm facing the same issue as Logical.

beginning in week 3, for 11 days, I stalled, gaining and losing the same 1 lb over and over again. Then I started exercising, and at the advice of many folks on this board, I increased my calories. I've kept my net carbs between 20 and 25 per day.

After losing 3-4 lbs in the 4 days following the exercise addition, I suddenly started gaining it back. I'm still at 20-25 carbs per day, increasing exercise each visit to the gym. I'm up 3 lbs.

I've never been a big eater - just a bad compulsive overeater/constant muncher, when stressed. I am enjoying the lowcarb foods. I don't miss bread, pasta, chocolate, snacks, etc. as of yet. I'm rarely hungry. In fact, I'm very happy at 1000-1200 calories a day, but I am forcing myself to eat more, so that my system doesn't shut down into starvation. It seems counter-intuitive though, to eat when not hungry. The best website I found that calculates minimum calorie intake, one with a modifier for activity level, suggests 1800 calories per day for my height, weight, etc. I'm at about 1600, to compensate for what may be a slow metabolism.

I have to say that, at 345 lbs, I just don't think its normal for a man to lose only 9 lbs in 4 weeks this early in a diet. Maybe during later months, but not at this point. It's a little frustrating with all the reports, especially from the men, of how the weight just fell off them at the beginning. (I don't know what I lost week 1, I didn't have access to a scale. I did Atkins in 1999, and after fast week 1, lost 0 lbs in week 2, and quit.)

I expected that age, a sedentary lifestyle (now with 2 miles on the treadmill) and a lifetime of gaining and losing, including some extreme liquid fasting diets, would make for slowed weight loss compared to earlier diets. But my experience lowcarbing is very frustrating. If things haven't changed in 1-2 weeks, I'm done with this WOE, and I will return to a lowfat regimen, something that always produced results in the past.

As I often see written here on these boards, this WOE is not for everyone.

Ku: Before you quit...you need to check into Lean for Life..we
are on the board..It's a low carb..(50-100) diet with low fat and
a good amount of protein..

Many people have had good luck with this..There is a website
leanforlife that could also give you lots of information..

Many men and women who have not had good luck with the
higher amounts of fat, have had very good luck with Lean for
Life...

Carol..oow-woo is one example..she couldn't lose on Atkins...
she had been on it for 5 years..but went on LFL and is down
over 13 pounds..(she is close to goal anyway)..

Please check it out...we have our own board on this website..
and look into In A Nutshell...Lean for Life is a book that we follow, but the information is on IN A Nutshell thread..

Just my opinion and experience.

A TRUE stall is one with no loss of pounds or inches in 4 weeks or more.
Having started ONLY 20 days ago you ARE NOT stalled. You may just need to RE-READ your book and make sure you are eating the correct foods.
