Natural alternatives to antibiotic ointment?

I fell on a Krazr scooter and gouged my hand up pretty good and had to get debridement done on it to remove stones. They told me to keep Neosporin or similar stuff on it.

I'm wondering if there are any natural alternatives? I was thinking maybe coconut oil, I think that has some natural antibiotic properties doesn't it? If I don't put anything on it, it starts to get dry and it gets painful when I bend my hand.

Tea tree oil would work but it would hurt like crazy. I am curious. Why don't you want to use neosporin? It seems pretty harmless to me.

I am using the neosporin right now. I am just always trying to seek natural alternatives to any commercial product. I have some tea tree oil. I use that instead of deodorant. Yes I think that would burn like crazy on the cuts. The cuts are starting to irritate and itch when I bend my hand. Some are like right on those large natural skin cracks on the hand.

Honey, I hadn't thought of that, but I remember hearing it is supposed to have antibiotic properties!

I ended up just using coconut oil. That actually seemed to work pretty well. I also read about using good yogurt or even raw milk, because the beneficial bacteria can then help clean and heal the wound, but I didn't try those methods (yet)!

Sorry, I am a little late on this thread....

I would suggest colloidal silver. You can get in at practically any health food store. Get the kind that comes in a spray. You will need to spray the wound, then spray the bandage before applying to keep the wound moist.
This stuff works crazy good for me.

Oh good suggestion, I forgot about that. I used to make colloidal silver using plans I found on the internet around year 2000. If I could find those 2 one ounce bars of silver I was using I could get that going again. I paid $7 per bar at that time, those run about $40 per bar now.

I'm getting in late on this post, too. So what did you use and how has it worked for you?

Hi Lisa Lou. I ended up using coconut oil. That helped quite a bit. As the wounds were healing, they would make the skin get tight and it was hard to flex my hands much without it hurting. The coconut oil kept it flexible and there no problems with infections. I also later read about some herbs people use on wounds but I forget now what they were. Everything patched up nice except of course the teeth I knocked out.
