Green Smoothies?

Hello! I'd like to start drinking some green smoothies (mainly to get more vegees in)...I love coconut milk too and would like to get the MCT's from the milk...

Question is - what are the best green smoothie recipes?

I was thinking of just using some fresh spinach, frozen berries and coconut milk - but I'd love to have some other recipes. I did a search but really couldn't find anything - what are your favorite green smoothie recipes?

Here are some ideas for different green smoothies

Shake #1
1/2 avocado
4 large romaine lettuce leaves
1 cup broccoli slaw
1/2 cup mixed berries (blueberry, blackberry, raspberry)--will turn it brownish
1/2 cup water
3 tbs greek full fat yogurt
1 tbs toasted almond butter, unsalted

Shake #2
Kale (organic)
Swiss chard (organic)
Spinach (organic)
1 scoop whey powder -- makes it a bit sweeter and less green
1 raw egg - free range (makes it creamy)
1/2 avacado
4 ice cubes
a little water

Shake#3
Kale
spring lettuce mix
spinach
soaked walnuts, sunflower seeds, or almonds
yogurt
kefir
a whole tangerine with some skin
water
part or all of green apple

These are just ideas from different people on this forum you can combine any ing. from these shakes that are appealing to you.

I add parsley and lime juice to mine also, makes it taste "bright"--also sometimes celery, cucumber, peapods, broccoli, or cabbage, whatever is on hand that doesn't turn it brown--I prefer that they look "green" but that's just me...

You can add the coconut milk to any of these for the liquid to blend in place of water...

i've tried it all. My absolute favorite is this:

baby spinach
coconut oil
banana
frozen pineapple
frozen mango
water as needed to smooth

This has higher carb fruits, but is sooo delicious!

Also...
-adding avocado and/or raw organic eggs is a great addition
-zucchini is great in smoothies and if peeled, the smoothie is not green and is great for picky eaters who would resist a green drink!

ok - so I tried making my first real "green smoothie" this morning - not bad but def. going to tweak it:

1 cup coconut milk beverage (so delicious, unsweetened)
a little bit of organic Kale
a few leaves of organic baby spinach
about 1/4 cup organic frozen blueberries
1 packet truvia
1 scoop greens/whey vanilla protein powder

it wasn't as sweet as I normally like - but it was good! I def. had bits of the kale (literally TINY bits, but there nonetheless) that I chewed on...lol but it was good!

I really love the idea of being able to get more vegees in in the morning, this way.

I also - along with the shake - had a 2 egg omelet fried in coconut oil and a little bit of shredded cheese.

I have made many a green shake. I had to back off because I was consuming too much green stuff everyday. I would use tofu then replaced that with whey powder then replaced that with 2 whole, raw eggs. I added greens (about 3 cups kale, baby spinach, collard, beet - whatever I could find at the store). Then threw in about 1/3 cup coconut milk, 1/4 cup frozen blueberries, some cod liver oil, some K2, some coconut oil and anything else I was interested in taking. Whip it up and drink it down. I found that kale gives good flavor but almost a gritty texture. My favorite is baby spinach. Dandelion greens and collard greens make it a little bitter. I still have a shake on occasion but not every day like I was. Just experiment and see what tastes good to you!

Laura, I agree... baby spinach is the best! I tried a whole bunch of parsley in mine once and it was so hard to drink. I may try to add a bit of it in again sometime because it's so good for you, but it may take awhile to heal from the pain of that experience!

Indychick, have you tried another one yet? any better?

hmm... is it flavored and sweetened flax seed oil? Never heard of it, but it sounds yummy. Where did you get it?

I made a green smoothie yesterday and it was pretty good. I don't like these sweet.

handful of cranberries
4 hand fulls of mixed greens
1/2 cup yogurt
1/2 avocado
1 TBS bee pollen
1 tsp cod liver oil (lemon flavor)
water

This is such a great way to get in more greens! I was making these for a while but stopped for some reason.

I just got off a 2 month RAW diet and did green drinks almost every day.. my fav is romaine and parsley and a bit of celery with apple, pineapple, and orange juice (juice the orange first)..

I also like to add a bit of raw beet (don't use too much), this drink is a GREAT liver cleanse.

You can google green drinks and green smoothies and find LOTS of great recipes.

I did a 10 day total juice feast and had all kinds of green drinks.
Enjoy!

Yes, just the fresh cranberries you can buy in a bag in the produce section (they are everywhere right now because of holidays). I love cranberries and thought it might be too sour but it actually tasted really good.
