Too Much Oil???? and Bowel Elim
I have been using Fish Oil capsules in the evening for over a year now. Recently I have been reading up about the benefits of coconut oil and have started incorporating 1 TBSP a day into my coffee. I have been doing that for about 2weeks. And, about a week ago I started 1 tsp daily of cod liver oil.
I have noticed since starting the Cod Liver oil I have increase bloating and flatulence (gas/farts ) is this normal??? And, loose stools.I ran out of Fish Oil capsules and want to know if I need to buy more. Do I get the benefits of the Fish Oil caps from the cod liver oil? I also incorporate a flax meal muffin daily as well along with chia seeds in my shakes or yogurt. So, I am getting plenty of fiber and so on.

You'd probably be just fine with the cod liver oil and CO, and nixing the flax meal muffin. Flax meal causes extremely unpleasant side effects for many people.
If that doesn't help, scale back the CO, which can cause digestive upset. Try eliminating the extra fiber first and see how you feel! |

Thanks, but I have been doing the flax meal muffin for several months maybe even going on a year now. It isn't totally flax as the dry ingredient either. I usually use 1/3 of the dry "flours" with almond meal, wheat bran etc.
But, are you saying that eliminating the fish oil is ok to get the Omegas from the other sources? That is why I was taking it, that along with the benefit of lower cholesterol. I forgot to mention that I have been doing daily Metamucil for the benefit of lowering cholesteral. Now I feel as though I am obsessed with BMs LOL. But, I am not. |

Since the bloating started with the cod liver oil, I would eliminate that first, work your way back. The Metamucil may be too much also, but that is my opinion. I'm big on fiber also, since I now have regular bm's and lived most of my life with having a difficult time. I am using the Metamucil Clear and Natural, it has Inulin and that works well for me (not for some I hear). I also use digestive enzymes a couple of times a day to help break down my food. That seems to have helped the most, and I have used them about 3 years.

I quit the Cod Liver Oil and haven't had the abdominal discomfort. So, I guess I will stay away from it. Not sure what the big hype has been . . . Fawn, comments?

Vicki, more than likely, the coconut oil is the culprit here. It's not just the food it's the combination of the change in your body. While flax may not have presented a problem in the past, combined with chia, coconut, the ecology in your body is changing.
More than likely, the coconut oil is doing its job in eliminating some bacterias and there's a bit of an argument going on in your intestines right now. (fiber feeds your flora) Always allow the body 1-2 weeks to acclimate to changes. In my humble opinion, there is no other supplement on this earth that will nurture you like cod liver oil. Your entire endocrine system thrives on cod liver oil. It is one of your most superior sources of DHA.

I quit the cod liver oil not long after posting this and haven't had any problems. Still using CO and flax muffins along with fish oil caps at night.
