I found an organic farm with a year-round CSA!

I love our summer CSA, and can't see switching from it, but I am excited to find a farm that has fall, winter and spring CSA options! They said that 95% of their products come from their farm, which is good because some CSA programs seem to get most of their produce from somewhere else. I don't know why they call them a CSA when they do that.

I usually have organic foods delivered from fall through spring, but now I won't need to do that most weeks. I like getting things picked that day and grown near me rather than getting produce from other countries.

I just wanted to share my excitement and remind people that CSA programs DO exist year around, you just have to look for them. (I actually found 2 for fall.)

I used Local Harvest to find them.

Thanks! I saw your post mentioning that you found raw milk and grass fed beef in your area. How great!

CSA = Community Supported Agriculture.

Here's a short description from Local Harvest:

"Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season."

Here's more info.

*****
I love supporting the farm where we get food. They really love growing heirloom, organic foods in a sustainable manner. We get a variety of vegetables every week that are picked that morning. The food that we get tastes better, we get a wide variety, and it costs less than it would to buy organic produce at the grocery store.

wendy - good for you!!! Up here in NY - not much opportunity for that, but I hope to do the best I can. One of the things I did here was freeze the produce I couldn't eat that week, tomatoes, green beans, bell peppers, onions, etc. I'm also going to miss my weekly egg share - I think I'm going to ask the farm owner who her egg partner was to see if there is any way to continue with eggs.

I had a lot of extra vegetables last fall, and froze them. We still have some! That would be great if you could continue to get eggs!
