My daughter and I both have gotten the seasonal flu shot. I am waiting for the H1N1 vac to be available and we will get it too. Hubby won't get it, doesn't believe in it.

After much debate I got the seasonal flu shot (only the 2nd one in my life and I'm 43 - I just can't afford to be down this year). However at the present time I will not get the swine flu shot.

No flu shot and definitely no swine flu shot. This vaccine is way too new- who knows what illnesses people will come down with after getting it. In my opinion the swine flu epidemic is completely overblown- tons of people die from just the regular flu and I've never seen such an uproar over that. Just a distraction.

I never had the flu shot before in my life, but decided to get one last fall. I had a pretty bad reaction to it, and ended up having the flu three times by the time spring rolled around. I do get the shot for my children though. Luckily they didn't have any kind of reaction to it. I was told not to get another one , that there must be something in it that I am allergic to.

I will not - nor will my children. DH can decide for himself.

I'm 99.9% certain that I and my children have already had it. It was quite mild, and it didn't dawn on me until a couple of weeks later that we'd had it! It started on a Saturday night, and Sunday I felt lethargic and had a mild sore throat. On Monday when the alarm went off, I was SO fatigued. I picked up the phone, called into work, and fell back asleep. Slept until 11am, got up & ate, went back to bed until 3pm. Went to bed early that night, and was up and back to work the following day.

Last week, my neighbors had confirmed H1N1 and so I went there to deliberately expose myself - I passed out suckers to all three kids - then collected them and swabbed myself thoroughly witht their germs. It's been a week and I'm not sick. So that's when I looked back and thought - OH! Been there, done that!

My point is: H1N1 is NOT the big deal that the news and the government would have you believe! I think we're MUCH better off with natural immunity! And although I am well aware of the guidelines, I would absolutely not give the H1N1 vaccine to small children or pregnant women - old people, maybe, but only because in their bodies are done forming, whereas a baby, toddler, or fetus is clearly still growing.

Just my opinion, of course - not a doctor - but for me, it's a great, big, solid, resounding no.

Nope... everyone's so worried about swine flu and what not-- I wound up getting the coxsackie virus (also known as "summer flu" and "herpangina") the week after FATHER'S DAY and was told to stay home and away from others until all my symptoms went away (the Coxsackie virus has the potential to grow to epidemic proportions otherwise)--- it took TWO (2) whole freakin MONTHS!!! From those I've heard who have had Swine Flu it wasn't nearly half as bad as the coxsackie virus which started for me as a 104.7 degree fever for 48 hours (which quickly turned into a low grade fever of 99-101 for a week) after 48 hours I began to develop over a dozen open ulcers in my throat which made drinking plain water nearly impossible. In week 2 I developed viral pink eye in both eyes which lasted 2 weeks and was unresponsive to eye drops. The viral pink eye, severe sore throat, and severe cough then lasted 6 weeks more and was unresponsive to antibiotics- I dropped 15lbs in July alone simply from not being able to eat solid food. I finally recovered from the virus and was able to return to work at the end of August.

My point is... there's so much panic about swine flu and everyone around where I live wants the vaccine, but there's a lot of other worse common viruses you can get simply from not washing your hands properly (coxsackie virus is a common virus passed amongst children that aren't properly potty trained-- and yes, I was in contact with several small yet-to-be-potty-trained children during our Father's Day Family Picnic).

I've become convinced (if you are an overall healthy individual) the best way to avoid getting sick is to avoid being around contagiously sick people, keep your immune system up with proper nutrition and exercise, and practice good HAND WASHING habits with good ol' regular soap, hot water, and good scrubbing!!!!

Now I'm off my soapbox. lol

Heck no, no vaccines for me (swine flu or otherwise). It concerns me when Federal Government wants to mandate any type of vaccination and if you refuse you could be fined or jailed. That's a big problem.

I am worried a bit about flu season but I don't think I will go as far as to get all the different vaccines. I am keeping an eye on this flu tracker but it seems like it's not too bad in my area yet so I am not that worried...

per article =

The flu vaccine is usually grown in fertilized chicken eggs for up to 8 months. Formaldehyde, a known cancer causing agent, is used to inactivate the virus. Aluminum, a neurotoxin, is added to promote an antibody reaction to the virus. Also included is Triton X-100 (a detergent), Polysorbate 80 (an emulsifier), gelatin, ethylene glycol (antifreeze), carbolic acid (a caustic poisonous crystalline acidic compound, present in coal-tar and wood, that in dilute solution is used as a disinfectant), antibiotics such as: gentamicin, neomysin, streptomisine; known to cause allergic reactions in some people. The 2008-2009 flu vaccine also contains Thimerosal, which is 49% mercury by weight, and used as a disinfectant. Mercury has been removed from all vaccines except the flu vaccine. Is this why 70% of medical doctors do not get a flu shot?

There is evidence to the case that flu shots may cause Alzheimer’s Disease because of the combining of mercury with aluminum and formaldehyde. Mercury alone has been implicated as a cause of autism.

It's already rampant here. We ride public transit and a paratransit service for disabled adults to boot. Guaranteed we'll be exposed.

So far, so good. I'm a big fan of olive leaf capsules and handwashing.

In a related subject I just heard from a friend that her 17 yr old daughter has swine flu. My friend is a hair stylist. I hope she doesn't get it. I can see how she might easily spread it at work.

No, I am not getting it, even though I work in a hospital and am around it every day. I would rather get the flu and develop my own natural immunity. So far it has not been mandated, only strongly suggested.

No. I keep my hands clean and don't hang around people who are sick if I can help it, and that's it. I would not consider a vaccine unless I had severe problems with my immune system.

Nope, no way. And what about the squalene (sp?) or whatever that's in it? I've read that it caused Gulf War Syndrome, due to all the immunizations that the troops got prior to going overseas. Whether or not that's true, it's not tested safe (no vaccines are, really).

I'll pass, thanks.

What Squalene (vaccine adjuvant) Does to Humans

What Squalene Does to Humans

Your immune system recognizes squalene as an oil molecule native to your body. It is found throughout your nervous system and brain. In fact, you can consume squalene in olive oil and not only will your immune system recognize it, you will also reap the benefits of its antioxidant properties.

The difference between “good” and “bad” squalene is the route by which it enters your body. Injection is an abnormal route of entry which incites your immune system to attack all the squalene in your body, not just the vaccine adjuvant.

Your immune system will attempt to destroy the molecule wherever it finds it, including in places where it occurs naturally, and where it is vital to the health of your nervous system.[viii]

Gulf War veterans with Gulf War Syndrome (GWS) received anthrax vaccines which contained squalene.[ix] MF59 (the Novartis squalene adjuvant) was an unapproved ingredient in experimental anthrax vaccines and has since been linked to the devastating autoimmune diseases suffered by countless Gulf War vets.[x]

The Department of Defense made every attempt to deny that squalene was indeed an added contaminant in the anthrax vaccine administered to Persian Gulf war military personnel – deployed and non-deployed – as well as participants in the more recent Anthrax Vaccine Immunization Program (AVIP).

However, the FDA discovered the presence of squalene in certain lots of AVIP product. A test was developed to detect anti-squalene antibodies in GWS patients, and a clear link was established between the contaminated product and all the GWS sufferers who had been injected with the vaccine containing squalene.

A study conducted at Tulane Medical School and published in the February 2000 issue of Experimental Molecular Pathology included these stunning statistics:

“ … the substantial majority (95%) of overtly ill deployed GWS patients had antibodies to squalene. All (100%) GWS patients immunized for service in Desert Shield/Desert Storm who did not deploy, but had the same signs and symptoms as those who did deploy, had antibodies to squalene.

In contrast, none (0%) of the deployed Persian Gulf veterans not showing signs and symptoms of GWS have antibodies to squalene. Neither patients with idiopathic autoimmune disease nor healthy controls had detectable serum antibodies to squalene. The majority of symptomatic GWS patients had serum antibodies to squalene.”[xi]

According to Dr. Viera Scheibner, Ph.D., a former principle research scientist for the government of Australia:

“… this adjuvant [squalene] contributed to the cascade of reactions called "Gulf War Syndrome," documented in the soldiers involved in the Gulf War.

The symptoms they developed included arthritis, fibromyalgia, lymphadenopathy, rashes, photosensitive rashes, malar rashes, chronic fatigue, chronic headaches, abnormal body hair loss, non-healing skin lesions, aphthous ulcers, dizziness, weakness, memory loss, seizures, mood changes, neuropsychiatric problems, anti-thyroid effects, anaemia, elevated ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate), systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis, ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), Raynaud’s phenomenon, Sjorgren’s syndrome, chronic diarrhoea, night sweats and low-grade fevers.”[xii]
