Is organic butter necessarily pasture fed? I guess it is labeling again.

I've been using a couple different organic brands for some time. Horizon Organic butter is the one I have now but it does not say pasture fed. The other one I use is Organic Valley. The "pasture butter" version is not one I've seen. I'll look for it.

Are there other readily available brands besides Kerrygold?

After reading this post, I bought some Kerrygold. Wow! It is so good... The scary thing is that it is so different from the store brand butter I've been buying: different color, consistency and melting point (and of course taste!).

In the morning I always put a tablespoon of butter in my frying pan and then go to the fridge for the eggs. I usually have time to start the coffee before the butter melts, but in about 15 seconds the Kerrygold was melted in the pan--versus about a minute and a half for my regular butter -- how weird is that? And the regular butter seems so watery/oily by comparison-- the Kerrygold looks, melts and tastes like FAT-- yum--I don't think I can go back....even though Kerrygold is triple the price...

Organic butter isn't necessarily pastured, it just means the animals aren't fed and don't receive hormones or antibiotics but are still fed corn and soy. Then you have butter that is pastured only, but not labeled organic (but if the cow eats only grass, then it probably isn't getting hormones/antibiotics from feed but they may inject them with it). The pastured butter is at least the way nature intended and the cows are I'm sure much happier/healthier. In my perfect world, there would be an open air market (Farmer's Market) open every day of the week in my town where all the local farmers sold meat/produce/dairy and you could talk to them about their farming practices. I live in an area with tons of farms but most don't sell to the public (I've found a few, but man it wasn't easy).
