Coconut oil (on body, face, teeth, hair, etc)
I recently started to brush my teeth with coconut oil and baking soda. I just apply some solid CO on my toothbrush and then top it with baking soda. Brush, brush, brush all over and then rinse. I LOVE IT!
My teeth have never felt cleaner and even my breath has improved.I was using BreathRX (11 bucks a tube) before and I thought that worked pretty well, but it doesn't even compare to my now precious coconut oil! LOL. Does anyone use coconut oil as a moisturizer? face wash? deodorant? toothpaste? conditioner? If so, how do you use it? what is your process? Can you provide some details. |

I use it to wash my face so that I don't have to moisturize after. I also use it to shave my legs and underarms. I add a little to the ends of my hair while conditioning. I love it but it makes the shower a little bit slippery!

I use the oil as my teeth cleaner too! I dab a little of the oil on my toothbrush, add a spot of toothpaste and brush. Love it! The dentist last week said I have great home hygeine. Didn't tell her that I use coconut oil, though.
I use it on my face (after washing it with coconut soap!) as my moisturizer. I also slather it on in the summertime before I go outside and use it as my sun protection. No sunscreen for me. It works great on my very white skin. After applying the coconut oil I do put on coconut lotion. I use it on my underarms before putting on my deodorant and has gotten the ketosis stink out from there. That is all I can think of for now!!!

Coconut oil is great for your gums as well as your teeth. I don't brush with it, but I use it to oil pull every morning. I have used it for a moisturizer going on 5 years. I'm almost 40 and not a wrinkle in sight.
I posted a recipe for deodorant made from coconut oil that I've used for about a year. It works well for me. |

A word of warning: You should only use baking soda once a week at the most. It works SO well to clean teeth because it's an abrasive, and will actually wear down your enamel.
I'm going to have to try the coconut oil! |

Virgin coconut oil has strong antibacterial properties, so it helps kill bacteria in the mouth, which cause cavities and gum disease. Gum disease and, in general, the amount of bacteria in the mouth has been linked to coronary disease. Higher levels of bacteria in the mouth has been found to correlate with increased incidents of coronary disease.

I use it to cleanse and moisturize my face and I am not good at oil pulling everyday because it makes my jaws ache from TMJ........
I have used it sometimes to brush my teeth and it is great, I need to do it more often, but toothpaste in the shower is the most convenient and my DH thinks I am ![]() for using it to brush my teeth........ |

I use coconut oil for oil pulling.
But, it didn't work as a moisturizer for me - made me blotchy, red, irritated, and clogged some pores. I use jojoba oil instead. |

Cool.
I am going to start using it on my face, too. I stopped for a while, but while I was using it my skin was so soft. I thought it would be oily, but it wasn't. For anyone using it as a deodorant.... Does it stain your clothes? I am afraid that I'll end up with oil stains somehow. Any tips on how to use/apply it? |

I use a lot in the shower, dry with the towel and it takes most of the oilyness away so it does not stain clothes. I think you just have to wipe off the excess and the rest is absorbed pretty quickly or so I Have noticed on my face, legs and when I shave underarms.

A former co-worker of mine mixes coconut oil and jojoba oil together.
I add a couple of drops of lavendar oil to my coconut oil for moisturizing at night. Seems to help calm me and help me get to sleep. Someone on this site (can't remember who) is the one that gave the tip about the lavendar oil...... Last edited by LeanLioness; 04-13-2009 at 03:44 PM.. |

I use a LOT of coconut oil.
My theory is that the oil pulling actually helps dissolve the tarter much in the way oil can help lift other types of dirt when cleaning. Whatever it does, my mouth is much cleaner after oil pulling than with brushing alone. I use both coconut oil and jojoba for my face Jojoba is my 'big guns' product which helps me out when I've neglected my cleansing or have something else going on with my skin. The two in concert (using the steaming method with a cloth) keep my skin in the best shape it has ever been in. I use coconut oil as a cooking oil and to oil my cast iron pots. I drink it with coffee most mornings.

I can't eat it anymore. I've tried many times, but it's almost like I am forcing it. I start to feel really nauseated.
I can eat it in coconut bark, but only if I add a layer of PB. LOL. It's good, but since calories matter in my case (med issues), the coconut oil adds on unnecessary calories that I can use on real food. |

I got really sick from eating it too and laid off for several months but now I am slowly introducing it back, very small amounts at a time.

I keep it in the shower, and just before I get out, I slather it all over, then rinse off the excess.
I use it on my face with the addition to emu or jojoba oil. I oil pull with it. It's great for sunburns or any skin irritations. DD12 uses it for every little bump or bite she sees! I'm gonna have to try brushing with it. I stopped using toothpaste about a year ago, and I've been brushing with Dr. Bronner's liquid Peppermint soap since. Along with the oil pulling, my teeth and gums have never been better! I cook with CO and put it in my tea, egg creams, and Fawn shakes.

Interesting. I just tried the CO oil pull and made it thru 10 minutes. Then brushed my teeth with CO. Using it as toothpaste was fine. 4 hrs later and my teeth still feel clean. I'm going to try that for a while.
I don't buy that the oil pull rids the body of toxins. There's no mechanism for that. It may clean the mouth and teeth. Finding bacteria in the spittle is no surprise - the mouth has more bacteria in it than any other part of the body. |

I just read alot of info on the oil pulling a few weeks ago...and I started trying it. My teeth are alot cleaner than without it. CO breaks down into linoelitic (sp?) acid and that is what helps fight the bacteria.

I use it for everything. I use it on my face & body. I stopped buying expensive creams.
I use it on my hair......just a tiny dap and it makes it so shiney. I cook with it. For those of you who don't like the overwhelming taste of coconut for cooking.........you can buy organic expellor pressed and it does not smell or tase like coconut. This is the one I use most of the time for cooking. I love the stuff!!!! |

An ND told me about it. How it works in detox, is it pulls thrush off the tongue and kills the bacteria that enters the stomach. Of course there is no proof, and I was doing so much detox it was hard to tell what worked at the time, but my mouth felt pretty clean :-) |
