Lawn Care the 'natural way' ??

Hubby was using a lawn care company to take care of the weeds etc here in Ga. Most people treat their lawns but i dont want to anymore.

What are the alternatives to weed control etc that dont include those posions??

You can change your attitude - I pretty much consider if it is green and doesn't bite (i.e. thorns), it is close enough. And if it blooms, that's an extra benefit.

But, other things to do - keep the soil at a pH near 7 will encourage grass and discourage most weeds. Mow high with sharp blades will keep the grass healthy and able to out compete weeds. There is a corn gluten that can be spread that works as a sprout inhibitor that then degrades into a nitrogen fertilizer for the spring. Make sure you are growing a grass variety that does well in your climate. Good soil. There is a web site called safelawns org that has a lot of info. I don't know if they sell stuff or not and I don't mean to spam. There are a lot of other sites on the web that a google will reveal for more detailed organic lawn care instructions.

up here we call that "winter"

Let your lawn go native
I took a whole section of my lawn, ripped it out and turned it into a prairie restoration project

Grass itself is nothing more than a weed. Learn to encourage a thick grassy lawn and that will choke out other weeds from gaining a foothold.

There are plenty of sites on the internet that can tell you how to naturally feed whatever kind of grass you have for optimal results.
