Hemp Milk?

Hi.. I was curious if anybody has ever drank hemp milk. I've read a few things online about it being very healthy for you, but don't know how true it all is. Is it really more healthy for you than soy milk and regular milk? Is there a "hemp milk resource center" or any kind of website with alot of information about the health benefits of hemp mlk? I want to give it a try, but don't really know where to start. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I shouldn't have cow's milk, and my ND doesn't want me to, nor do I want to, drink soy milk. He recommended hemp milk to me over rice milk, but I have some health problems, so that might be why he chose that. (Hypoglycemia, hypothyroid, elevated fasting blood sugar level, elevated bad cholesterol level, low vitamin D level tendency, tired, need to lose lots of weight...) I had so many questions, that I didn't get around to asking him about why he recommended it. That will be on my list for next time.

You might want to read about soy milk and estrogen. I've also heard that a lot of soy milk is made from GM soy beans. I don't know how true that is since I haven't researched it, only heard it through the grapevine.

I recently bought some hemp milk. I don't like it, but it isn't disgusting. I'm going to try the other brand at the store down the road to see if it tastes different. I bought the unsweetened, plain organic hemp milk to cut sugars. I bought it for a protein drink that my ND recommended.

HTH somehow!

I don't eat soy, so I use hemp or almond milk. I like them both.

Lauren, I have unsweetened Hemp Bliss by Manitoba Harvest. Living Harvest also makes some that is unsweetened. Living Harvest isn't labeled as organic. Here's a reveiw of the two brands, though not specifically about the unsweetened varieties.

Thanks, Wendy! I'll look for it at the health food store.

Yes. All of ours comes from Canada. I think that's because it's not legal to grow in the U.S., but that's a guess.

Lauren, I hope that you find some.

Sammy runs across the border to Manitoba and looks around!

Theres an old mine in Manitoba that was converted to grow medicinal marijuana (growing it upside down yet lol) anyway I'm told the quality of the medicine was poor, and many card carrying med pot patients complained about what was coming out of there.

Last I heard, they were looking at other avenues of getting rid of their low quality hemp. Guess hemp milk was their solution.

lol

Now I'm gonna look around and see if I can acquire some to try at least. Never heard of it til now and I'm just a hop skip and a jump away from Manitoba.

Sammy

My HFS carries the Living Harvest brand and one other brand I cannot remember the name of. I use both.

Hemp milk is a superior choice. Nice complete proteins......low glycemic

WCWendy, the reason your ND does not want you on rice milk is because of your IR and the glycemic value of this food.

hemp milk

I've seen 2 kinds and tried them both, the vanilla flavor. One tasted awful (Manitoba Harvest) and the one from Living Harvest was good, (and cheaper). But if the claims are true? Doubt it... they both claim lots of Omega 3 and considering that that type of package is exposed to very high heat, my guess is the omegas are destroyed... just a guess. Personally I like almond milk. I have also tried to make my own hemp milk in my soymilk maker... that wasn't bad...

I just tried hemp milk and I LOVE it! The unsweetened one. It's upstairs or I would say what the brand is. It's really high in omega 3s and 6s.

Okay, I'm trying new things.

I sipped the hemp milk today. Uh...do you all just drink it straight out of a cup? Or do you mix it?

I have the unsweetened orginal.

I've only used it in protein drinks.

It offers more nutritionally than almond milk...but it has a very distinct taste. Not bad...but not something I want to taste.

Maybe I can mix it with almond milk.

Hemp cannot be grown legally here in the US. Not even the non-THC kind which is what is for sale here. It is legal in Canada. It is expensive here to even buy the hulled seed to make milk. It is very nutritious and has fiber. Nutiva has good hemp products, but not milk.

Hemp has been in use for thousands of years for food, textiles, and rope.

It's just so darn expensive here that I have to stick to my almonds for milk.

I make my own hemp milk - super easy to do. You can get a big bag (like 3 lbs) and store in your freezer. The seeds don't actually freeze, but they stay fresh that way.

I use the recipes from Thrive, Brendan Brazier's book (on vegan nutrition). He's got recipes for regular hemp milk and chocolate hemp milk. We made some chocolate hemp pancakes the other day (using hemp milk) and they were great!

As far as the taste... by itself, it's a little grassy tasting to me. I can get used to it, but I'm so spoiled with making almond milk, it's hard to like anything else, lol. Still... it's a fab alternative.

(If anyone's interested, I can post the recipes... just let me know!)

Hemp milk info.

I have recently fallen in love with hemp milk. I like the one from Living Harvest- the vanilla unsweetened one. People around where I live think you get high from this stuff, but I keep telling them that's ridiculous. I'm correct, right? Anyone care to jump on that? I've read that it has a lot of nutritional value.

It may be a case where you 'can' get high from it, but most people are not interested in drinking tens of gallons at a sitting.

There's no THC so I'm not sure how anyone would think it'd get you high.

Anyway, I don't have any input on the benefits, but I love the Living Harvest hemp milks. Chocolate, Vanilla, mmm all of 'em.

Oh, we got milk all right.

In addition to whole, two-percent and one-percent fat, skim and super skim, we now also can choose to have organic milk, hormone-free milk, lactose-free milk, soy milks in a rainbow of flavors, rice milk, even almond milk.

Add to the list of nondairy alternatives, with an emphasis on alternative, "hemp milk."

i just bought some from the health food store and was extremely disappointed - i thought it tasted like as*. Almond milk gets my vote before this stuff. I was excited about hemp milk because of the higher fat content, but i just can't abide by the taste. ymmv.
