Peanut Butter Sweetened With Agave Syrup: Throw Away??

Hey Everyone!

I bought Earth Balance PB to add to my protein shake and didn't notice (until now) that it's sweetened with agave syrup. I read that AS is worse than HFCS, and I'm wondering if I should toss this jar and get something else.

The serving size is 2tbsp, which has 5g net carbs (8g carbs, 3g fiber, 2g sugar). I make one protein shake a day and would only use 2tbsp of the PB. Do you guys think there's enough agave syrup in there to stall me? I would only use this jar and then get something else next time. I hate to waste food but if there's a good chance of this messing up my keto diet, I'll toss it.

I don't use agave, but I would say the nutrition facts aren't much worse than unsweetened peanut butter. Yes, it is a bad sweetener (all fructose) but I say live and learn, use it up (not too much at one time) and get an unsweetened peanut butter next time.

I think you can decide. Like Misti said, it's all fructose and that goes straight to your liver to be processed. So, in the small amounts you are using, meh. I think I'd use it up and not buy it again. Agave is not the sweet savior they thought.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I decided to not use it, just didn't want to take a chance. I bought Smucker's Natural, which only contains peanuts and salt.
