feeling hungry after a larger than usual meal???

So last night i starved myself all day for the dinner since we were going to a korean bbq place (they cook meat on an iron plate ). I probably had more than my daily allotment of calories but i tried my hardest to eat as many veggies as possible. I had beef, pork and lots of bean sprouts. it was hard to calculate the total calorie/carbs since some had sauce in it.. In the morning when i woke up i was extremely hungry... is it because my body wants more food because of that big meal???

I would guess that it is likely more a case of more carbs causing the hunger response. I love Korean food but it tends to be carby (can be loaded with sugar and starch).

I agree, it is probably the carbs. Even eating a lot of veggies at once can cause an insulin reaction when you get them all at once, and then most sauce is carby.

Are you testing your blood?

Some people can tell by how they feel but blood testing is the best indicator. For me, feeling hungry when I usually do not, is a good indication that I am not in ketosis.

As Erica has said, too many veggies at one time (even if they are 'low carb') can cause hunger feelings when not typical.

They are not really that expensive, mine was free with test strips. That is just one way to test. How you feel is a good indicator also .

I actually think I overstated this. Feeling hungry when it is not typical (once a person is well adapted to ketosis), can indicate a bunch of different things. I have found that the most common thing is over eating carbs but that doesn't necessarily mean that a person is no longer in ketosis. It more likely means that they have eaten beyond their carb limit.

A large meal with lots of veggies tends to take a person out of ketosis and then they feel hungry. Next time, eat a regular size meal and limit your veggies. You will feel better for it.

Tends to happen to me when I've been high on carbs.

Did you have any sauce with your meat and veg? Korean food has some sugar in the marinade (probably not as much as some Chinese dishes), so it may not have been just the veggies that broke your carb limit.

I also tend to feel very hungry after overeating carbs. My advice is to eat a bit more fat and protein, to satisfaction, so not to be tempted by more carbs.
