Precision versus Nova Max
Okay I am having a little fun with my new toys. I just got my Precision reader in the mail. I don't have the ketone strips for Precision but it did include glucose strips. I tried a little experiment with my two readers using the glucose strips. The precision gave me a reading 74 and 5 minutes later a 78. My Novamax gave me a reading of 96 and 5 minutes later a 91. That is quite a difference. Not sure what to believe! Have any of you checked these two readers?

Not for glucose, no. That's interesting.

I pretty much put away the Novamax once I was able to find (sorta kinda) reasonably priced Precision Xtra blood ketone strips. I don't like how the Novamax just says "Lo." I want a real number!

I found a site Universal Drug Store out of Canada that sell the strips around 2.00 bucks. I am going to order today. I will try to experiment both glucose and ketones when I get the shipment.

Yeah, that's where I buy as well. Fair warning: shipping takes a while.

unfortunately, the standard for "accuracy" in a glucose monitor are plus or minus 20% over 100 and plus or minus 20 under 100. most are not that bad though. yours are pretty diverse!

probably the ketone monitoring function is about that accurate too, just as an aside. you might find that info somewhere online

I had the same huge variance between my usual BG meter (True Result) and the Precision. I'm not an insulin dependent diabetic, but that much difference could really be a problem for an insulin dependent diabetic. Sheesh!

In the Novamax was a control solution to test the glucose strips. I used the solution on the Novamax and on the Precision and they were both 115. Go figure. It could be the Novamax test strips have more of a discrepancy than the meter itself. . Sometimes the glucose reading was so high that I worried about the diet and even wrote on thread on this forum.

Everything I have read says that the Precision is your best bet.

Been using the nova max reader and precision xtra side by side and I have to say ketone readings are pretty spot on. The fact I can get ketone strips from the novamax store at 2.00 per strip and delivered in a few days as oppose to weeks has me leaning towards the Nova Max. And I have yet to experience a reading under .5 as simply low. It will read the numbers.
