Hey KT, just wondering how you are?

I was sad to hear that your sleep problems became so severe. It is a big deal not to be able to get a proper sleep. I went through a very long phase of sleep deprivation due to outside influences and understand just how difficult it can be.

Hope you are resolving that issue by now.

Hi Cathy,

Thanks for looking in on me.

I've added two sweet potatoes per day and things are OK. I called the doc and was told to take a two hour post-meal glucose reading and not to worry about taking meds since my A1c wasn't that bad. I am sleeping much better now. I am still low carb, I just can't do NK.

Things are not really OK at work, though. I'm taking a pill for anxiety. That is not right, and I am questioning myself on whether it is worth it to hang in there with this job.

I'm not sure how this is going to resolve. I am really seriously thinking on it. I would not be able to find another equivalent job in this area; I would have to move to Chicago, Boston, NY, etc. I don't want to move while my daughter is in college here.

I know it sounds bad, but the more I think about it, the more I realize I have to do something. I think I have to take a stand at work and come what may and then deal with the fall out instead of living like this.

How have you been, Cathy?

I am sorry things are not easier. Making big changes can be so stressful. I know you are smart and resourceful and will land on your feet come what may.

With the diet thing, I think you may do better if you just did n.k. and not the rest of it with food reward and the oil in isolation of other foods. N.K. is not for everyone and maybe you have decided it can't be for you then so be it. I will miss your insights though.

Thanks.

I think the stress is my biggest problem and maybe nothing is going to work until things settle down. I'm not writing anything off; I will probably try this again sometime.

Thank you for your kindness!

Hi, are you sleeping better?

I find I have to eat a good amount of protein (at least 25-30g) for breakfast--I cannot skip breakfast! If I wait 5 hours to eat after I wake up, it will take me 5 hours to fall asleep that same night!

Some carbs before bed help me sleep but pure carbs for breakfast=insomnia!
Pure fat for breakfast also=insomnia. (eg, bulletproof coffee)

Since you're familiar with Seth Roberts...on his blog he said he found a "cure" for his sleeplessness: spend some time each day standing on one leg.

I have no idea why it works.
I try to do the yoga "airplane" (aka Warrior III) pose for a few minutes each day because it's good for balance and core strength. There are many other one-legged yoga poses, too...or you could just stand on one leg any old way.

Hi Jenny!

I have read Seth Robert's comments about sleep - at first he was standing something like 8 hours per day. I am trying out a stand-up desk work station that I bought for work. It is nice for a break to stand, but since I am conducting an audit now, I have a paper bomb on my desk so I am just sitting anyway. Maybe when it is over.

I am sleeping better now but am not losing weight. The stress is the problem right now. I am going to have to change some things but it will take a while. For now I will be going on vacation and will figure it all out later!

Everytime I think I know what works it changes. I think there is some strange kick-over that happens to me around this weight. When I am over 220 vs. under 210 things change drastically. I feel that I am in a dead zone right now where nothing makes sense.

Good to hear from you!

Hi Key Tones!

I am sorry you are dealing with so much stress. Hope things change for the better very soon.

I have found some amazingly helpful suggestions from Maria Emmerich regarding sleep issues, and I've been following them togethter with my keto diet and am finally sleeping well. Thought I'd share, as I also have anxiety related sleep issues...

I exercise regularly, so I try to hit the gym three times a week and walk the dog every day. I stop eating 2-3 hours before bed

I try to go to bed at the same time every night
I try to get up at the same time every day
One hour before bed I take:

- magnesium (ionic magnesium)
- GABA
- 5-HTP
- a quarter teaspoon progesterone cream rubbed on arm

I also take Estrofactors in the morning and focusing on gut health has also greatly helped my anxiety and overall stress issues.

I hope you figure out what works for you and that you will be able to enjoy your holiday fully and come back totally relaxed and happy!!!! Wishing you nothing but positive vibes,

xxx Chloe.
