New to nutritional ketosis and dieting

Hi all! Over the past year I gained 30 pounds (a tremendously stressful year) and now find my BMI in the middle of the overweight range :(
I'm a resident MD and have been looking for medically sound diets. I've been reading Dr. Peter Attia's website and watching Dr. Phinney's videos on youtube and it appears that nutritional ketosis has a lot of exciting research that makes biochemical sense. Interestingly, the science doesn't negate what I learned in medical school, but it moves past it by both synthesizing and introducing concepts.
I'm on vacation with family next week and when I return I'm going to experiment with nutritional ketosis.
Hope everyone's having a great day!

Welcome. We'll all look forward to your experiments.

Welcome Jessica! So great to hear that new physicians are understanding and adopting n.k.. as a 'good health strategy'. It seems so bizarre that science has answered so many biological questions and yet has gotten this piece about nutrition so wrong. Getting to the right answers will right so many wrongs.

Looking forward to hearing of your experiences with n.k..

Very interested to hear your results! Be sure to ask questions if you have them. :)

Welcome! From what I have read humans were meant to be able to adapt to any type of diet, our bodies are extremely capable of that. For some people, NK just makes more sense.

Hmmm... Not sure about that. Unless you meant that some people can adapt to any type of diet.

There are many people who cannot adapt to a vegetarian or vegan diet, and it causes all kinds of health problems.

And I would imagine that there are people who would not be able to adaprt to NK, for various reasons.

I would also add that 'adapting' to particular diets does not equate health. Certainly many, many people have 'adapted' to the standard American diet but I would say that all of them will have some health 'issue' as a result. Some more obvious and some less so but all will have consequences.
