In a moment of weakness I ate a glazed cake doughnut. But I am back on the wagon, and if I stick to plan or rest of the day, it will look more like a NK day. The nice thing about a doughnut is there are a lot of carbs, but also some fat! Not using that as an excuse, though!

Sounds yummy and very well reasoned with the fat

My day's is going well.

B: 1 egg yolks/mayo/mustard
S: Coffee/1T. CO
L: 2 egg yolks/mayo/mustard

Not sure about the rest of this crazy day. I'm on the go, and worse case scenario I'll be eating a burger patty from one of our chain burger joints. The patties are only 3 oz and really high in fat, and I'll have one T. of CO to round it all out.

Just joined here and started my first Fat Fast

Hi, I'm looking for others doing a fat fast. I just started today after downloading the Fat Fast book from Amazon last night. I pretty much read it through this morning, and decided to give it a shot.
I have eaten low carb for a long time, and have done Atkins, too, but always hit a stall after about 20 pounds lost. I remember many years ago trying a fat fast according to his book, but got bored with it and went back to high protein low carb. After reading the Fat Fast book, I understand that I must have been eating too much protein and converting it to glucose. So, here I am, hoping to glean information from anyone who has successfully completed a fat fast.
One thing I would like to hear from you all is how many times I can repeat a 5 day fat fast. Do you approach it as part of a cycle, and is it okay to keep repeating it, or will I just add back in enough carbs to stay in ketosis? What about the protein, do I bump it back up to a certain level. So many questions - hope there are answers out there, but for now, I'm finishing Day 1 of my first fat fast, and I feel pretty good.

Hi Becky, welcome to the world of FF!

I finally had luck with it this time, but haven't always been successful. In hindsite, I think I waited too long to eat in the past. Or didn't eat enough.

I don't know the answers to your other questions about frequency and repetition. I'm also not sure how to add protein back successfully, but I think slowly would be the right answer.

Why don't you write out your menus and post them, I'm sure that others will chime in to help.

Good luck with it!

Ann, thanks for the reply! I ate fine today, but as I head for bed, realize I have a headache. Probably the sugar being used up in my brain
B: 1 oz macadamia nuts
S: avocado dip with pork rinds
L: shirataki noodle pancetta with cream cheese & butter
S: 1 T coconut oil
S: 3 pecans roasted in CO
I ended up with 87% fat, 9% protein & 4% carbs. According to the book Fat Fast, I should be shooting for 90% fat, so I think I've done pretty well. Not hungry, either.

Yesterday was the last day of my FF. I am really pleased with the results. I'm looking forward to upping my protein today as last night I experienced leg cramps and a headache and wasn't able to sleep very well.

I would like to try another FF, maybe I could do it once a month?

Hi Becky,
Your menu looks great as do your macros. I hope the headache subsides. I hope you continue to post your menu/results.

Have a great day!

Thanks Rebecca! You have provided a ton of helpful knowledge and experience through your journals, cookbook.

I think I'll put it in my calendar. And, this logging thing has really held me to stay accountable. I think I should start an online journal here, then I can review my progress. I keep one for myself through my tracker, but on this site I feel like I should stick to what I said I was going to do, keep me honest

I'm going to do a 3 day fat fast starting today. I had a bit of carb creep and I'm up. Anyone else trying the fat fast? I downloaded the fat fast cookbook from Dana C.

I'm on day 3 of FF, planning on doing 5 thru Sunday.

Have followed the plan to the T, with 1,000 cals and 80-90% fat.
But I have to say, I am starving

Not sure what's up with that, as I have experienced ketosis many times with no hunger, and I wasn't very carbed up when I started this on Weds.

This is full on, tummy rumbling hunger - it must be the lowish cals, but I really thought that the huge % of fat, would counteract that?

Anyway, apart from that feel good and have lost tons of belly bloat, looking forward to my weigh in on Sunday morning.

I'm doing a 3-day FF using Dana Carpenders recipes, starting tomorrow. Made an attempt about a week ago but gave up at the end of day two because I was actually hungry, (only had a couple of snacks which sorted the hunger but I overshot the macros).
I've chosen 'Feeds' from the high end range. L

Everyone raves on how fat inhibits hunger. Personally I think it's the Protein. From experience, I've been trying to drive my Pro down from the 70's to the 60's, but with not much success. My body wants 70g pro and if I have that, I'm not hungry.
I'm 53, 5'5", somewhere between sedentary and moderately active, and suffering from surgically induced menopause (hormones up the creek right now).
I will give FF another go from tomorrow morning.

Please keep in touch for the next few days, I'm not sure how I'll cope

Hi CheckoutChick, for sure I'll be checking in. I ordered Dana Carpendars Fat Fast cookbook, which should be here tomorrow.

Perhaps your right on about the protein.

I have been doing the 5 x 200 cals meals a day.

So about 11am today, I doubled up with my tuna/mayo/avocado for 400 cals. Great, but here I am an hour later with the tummy rumbles again

What are you planning on eating?

Every time I have done the Fat Fast, I found that my hunger was managed better by eating every two hours instead of every four or five hours. I just eat less during each snack. I had a little hunger, but nothing to be concerned about.

I have picked five feeds from the 90% range.
Keto Coffee, Sautéed Mushrooms, 1oz Macadamias, Chocolate mousse? and a Peanut Butter Fat Bomb. Not a lot of food

I'm in the UK so to be sure, I added the ingredients from the recipes into my App using UK ingredients from my supermarket. To my surprise I had to either ditch one of the feeds, or split one into two, so I get five feeds for the day. Otherwise I would exceed the cals by ca 400

Very cool Rebecca! I did notice your name on the book

The recipes look great and Checkoutchik, the mushroom recipe looks really good.

I'm originally from UK too and nothing beats or compares to the double cream over there

I've been doing 2oz brie, 1oz Macadamia nuts. Heavy whipped cream in coffee, and tuna/mayo/avocado for 3 days. Looking forward to a bit of a change when the book comes.

Yay! Go fat fast...

I stuck to 1000 cals - 81/16/4%. Hunger was non existent but I did do frequent small meals.

Coffee with HH & MCT oil (I'm afraid of HWC due to past gain)
Sausage link with sour cream
Coffee with HH & coconut oil
Cheese & olives
Pepperoni & cream cheese
Chicken broth & butter
Cream cheese & Splenda with a little Redi Whip

I did eat every 2-3 hrs & stopped at 6pm.
I did have a few bathroom 'runs' and major stomach bubblying.
I think I have a hard time digesting a lot of fat but I'm going to stay the course.
Just picked up some Betaine HCL to help digestion.

Today's Menu:
1 oz Macadamias
1 mug Marigold Swiss Bouillon
Chocolate Whip (made with extra thick dbl cream UK), Dana's recipe
1 mug Marigold
2 oz hard cheese
Keto Coffe, Dana's recipe
Cals 1228 oops / fat 121g / carbs 7g / pro 24g

I was going to split the Chocolate Whip into 2 servings, but it was just too YUMMY, so I ate it all in one sitting.

Onto day 4 and feeling really good, the brain fog has gone and energy levels are way up. I'm going to do my sat morning spin class, it's quite an intense workout, so I hope I don't bonk.

Checkoutchick, that mousse sounds really good, look forward to getting my fat fast cookbook. Did you see my post, that I'm originally from the UK and I miss the double cream from there, the cream here is not the same here.
I had trouble portioning out the macadamia nuts in the beginning, but now I'm strict about only eating the 1 oz.

I'm really enjoying this plan now, so have to figure out what I'm going to do after the 5 days, Rebecca can I go onto the modified fat fast for a week after this?

You're right, the cream over here is LUSH especially extra thick and clotted
I weigh the nuts and 1 oz is not a bad portion
Having my first Keto Coffee, wasn't sure about it to start with. It does feel a bit greasy on the lips but all in all it's really not bad.

Why is the cream so different in the US? My son lives in BC and he also says he can't get 'proper' cream there.

I'd like to think I could do five days but I'll focus on three for now
I read on the 'Carbsmart' site/magazine that we should do Induction for a little while after the FF, max 20g carbs.

Hi Jennafun,

Good going on day 2! Food looks good.

I took a sneak peak at the scale and down 4 beginning of day 3

I broke down and bought some cream cheese, that I don't usually care for, but some of the FF recipes with it look good.

Spin class, was a struggle physically, I lowered my resistance and basically just pedaled through the hour, but worked up a good sweat, and hope I'm using mega fat cells for energy
