I've never used Ghee. I've thought to try it sometime. I like buying something new now and then. But I'm quite content with butter.

It's so darn hot, up to 95 today and it was just too hot to go out with the dog on a walk (her poor paws.) I finally did do 15 min on my elliptical, and will do a walk after dinner too.

I've been drinking tons of decaf iced tea all afternoon. I've probably had half a gallon already.

I'm bad though and using too much artificial sweetener. I have to admit that I like my tea sweet (lived in Georgia 15 years) and my favorite sweetener is plain old saccharin drops.

Why did I do it? I just had my son take a photo of me so I could compare it with some other photos, and it just didn't look good and UGH......

I looked frumpier than I felt and my hair is too blonde, though everyone keeps saying it looks good. And I definitely looked older than my 50 years.

Maybe I'll try again when I'm down a few more pounds, for that "compare" photo.

~~~~~~~~~~
Lunch was divine today, a large salad with some chicken and sunflower seeds on it. Dressing was a big blob of my homemade mayo mixed with homemade italian dressing (1/2 MCT, 1/2 light olive) and when I think how much fat was on that salad, my heart just skips a beat.
This mayo thing sure makes the fat easier to eat.
Oh, and I worked on upping my fat for breakfast too. I usually cook my eggs in 1 T butter, and today I added an extra T of olive oil. I'm kind of hoping the extra fat will keep me from getting hungry as early. I don't have any great cravings or anything, but I do get hungry after a few hours. Everyone says that they don't get hungry and forget about lunch and stuff like that.
That never happens to me. I'm hungry for meals (often not hungry for dinner though as I eat in the afternoons.) I'm going to try so hard today not to eat this afternoon and be hungry for dinner.
Hi everyone, I'm backkkkkkkkkkkkk..
I haven't done this in a while but im trucking along to finally reach some of my weightloss goals. I'm weighing everything and plugging them into an app that tracks everything. Today is my second day.. Yesterday I did better then I hoped!
I am switching back over from a fruit filled Paleo so im getting a bit of the keto flu which stinks.. In all my time of doing atkins its been lots of years since I had keto flu!
I'm really trying to keep it simple and then add on from there and play with it to get my numbers on mark.
Yesterday i was at 88/9/3 so with just about 1500 calories. Hopefully today I will be closer to 80/15/5
You're giving me flashbacks of my teen years in the midwest. My dad and I would go running at 9 p.m. because it was finally cool enough to think about moving. I miss those days...my knees would never let me get away with running now. Would it work for you to get up early and go out before it gets hot? To make you miss your past in Washington, we had gloom and rain this afternoon. But it did get to 68, so ya know it's still summer, right?
I did pretty good today, food-wise. I got a great deal on macadamias nuts the other day, so I've been munching on those when I need a quick snack.
Queen Bacon, I found a great article by Dr. Eades a while back about ketosis flu. He recommended eating 2-3 TB coconut oil to stave off the worst of the symptoms, and since that time I've had to try it twice. It really helps!
Wake up early, heaven forbid. Nope, can't do it. I get up at 5:45 already, go to bed by 10 most nights, and it's still not enough sleep. I did an hour long walk yesterday, right after dinner, as long as it's shady, I'll survive, and it will be fall before I know it, and then snow....ugh.
I had been eating too many macadamias and I don't usually overeat nuts, but I finally just stopped buying them, too darn yummy.
I was excited to finally change a number on my weight officially. And I recently upped my goal weight, even though I want to be lower, I want 135 to be my top weight, so now I only have 12 lbs officially yet to lose.
Hey, that sounds doable.
It's been 17 weeks and 17 lbs. I wish they'd come off faster since it took me a month to lose 2 lbs. I have it in my head that I'd like to be at goal by the holidays, but I've learned not to set a date, just as long as the number goes down, no matter how slowly.
I realized that by losing so slowly I would never actually have to transition to eating at maintenance, I would be eating at that range once I got there. Kind of an interesting concept.
Hi everyone!!
Just a quick check in from work. I dont get to post much but i do read when i can. I'm enjoying being back in ketosis. I'm not losing fast but i dont want to go too low on calories to lose. I'm kinda doing the same as you Annette, hoping to lose slowly to not hreally have to lower my calories much later.
I have been keeping my carbs down to under 5% and i feel great!! My skin is clearing up, my knees dont hardly hurt at all anymore. The main thing is that without eating so many fruits and veggies i dont have near as much gas!!!!
Anohter thing i have realized is that i do much better with more protein in the morning. I have tried eating more fat with only a couple of eggs and i am hungry a couple hours later. If i eat a couple eggs and some chicken or sausage and a little bit of veggies cooked in 1T fat it keeps my tummy happy until around noon. I still never get the satiety that some people get from ketosis. Being able to go 5 or 6 hours without getting hungry has never happened for me. I wish it would!! I get a little appetite suppression and i dont think about food constantly and obsess over food constantly but I dont totally lose my appetite. Dang it!!!!
I forget who is was that asked aboug ghee but i use it and love it. It has a much richer taste than butter. It is supposed to be a lot healthier than butter because of it being so concentrated and the nutrients that are in. Especially when it is from grass fed cows. I have mine from pure indian foods and they only make their ghee twice a year when the cows are fattest and healthiest from the grass being so abundant. It is wonderful stuff!!!
It makes a great bullet proof coffee!!
Have a great day everyone!!!
I went back to my old office for one last project this week, and today was Doughnut Wednesday ... pastries everywhere you look! Thank God for ketosis - none of it tempted me. (Mind you, out of ketosis I can't say no to doughnuts, and I can never eat just one.) Little victories like that help me keep my focus. Food-wise it was a pretty good day.
Slightly frustrated this morning, I just wish my weight would move a bit faster. It's difficult when you know you are working so hard and the scale ignores your efforts. Yea, yea...I know it's not all about the scale, but yea...it is.
It was up about 3/4 of a pound, which I know isn't fat, or even muscle, just water, but still. I really want to see the number drop into the 146 range so I can just know it's going down.
Darn water retention.
Did track my ketones this morning (not doing it daily now) and it was up to 2.6, so I'm doing that right, plus I know I'm not overeating....ugh.
Okay, time to chin up and get over it. Maybe tomorrow's the day.
SAme here this morning. Up 1/2 pound!! I just want to see the scale move a little!!
I'm going to do meat and eggs and fat for a few days and see if i cant get it to move. I dont know how much lower my carbs can get. I am wondering if the maca i use is makign me hold weight. I started taking a teaspoon per day in a almond milk and coffee smoothie to help with hormones but i also read in some people it makes them gain weight so i just dont know. I'm very frustrated at this point.
Today i am doing 2 eggs, 2 oz of leftover steak cooked in 1T primal fat.
then for lunch 2 boiled mashed with 3 oz chicken and 1/4 of an avocado with 1t olive oil mixed in, and a little sauerkraut, just to keep things moving.
and then more chicken and eggs for dinner.
I dont know what to do at this point.
How much in grams of fat, protein and carbs are you eating each day?
I dont have the exact percents on this computer at work but on ************ for yesterday for instance.
Calories 1502
carbs 34
fiber 18
fat 113
protein 97
Today will end up being much lower in carbs.
About 1400 calories
20 carbs
7 fiber
95 fat
100 protein
I know im in ketosis because of my breath and pee. But i'm just not losing. I hate to lower my calories even more. I workout everyday. Jogging, lifting weights, kickboxing, walking. I'm just at a loss. I have gone from eating 1000 to 1400 calories a day, very low fat, a ton more veggies and fruits to eating this way. I would think it would shake things up some.
Any help is really appreciated.
Shelley, are you at goal already or have your stats changed? I personally don't know anything about JUDD, are you still trying to do that too?
I think our bodies just get comfortable. Also I know, for myself at least, that I am losing very very slowly, and on paper it doesn't look like I'm losing at all. But when I track, and take averages each week, it IS going down. But it's next to impossible to see that 1/2 lb loss when I see a couple higher numbers mixed in with the others.
I was feeling so bothered this morning that my weight was up about 3/4lb when I KNEW it should be down, then I remembered I almost always go up the day before I go down. So now I'm positive I will have a loss tomorrow...lol.
I think your numbers look good, similar to mine, though lately I'm trying to drop the protein down more. But I don't think I have a change in ketosis one way or the other.
Honestly, I can't find any trends based on what I eat, as long as I keep my carbs down.
In fact, yesterday my carbs were almost at 40, fiber at almost 20, and my blood ketones were 2.6. Maybe netcarbs are my trend. Today my carbs are quite low comparatively. This all just gets overwhelming.
Thank you Annette. My stats are totally wrong actually. I forgot to change them. I havent been on here consistently for awhile. I stopped juddd because it started causing me to binge again. Tehn i decided to just quit tracking and driving myself crazy and just eat healthy. I started eating primal and then went almost vegetarian. I wasnt eating much meat at all. Mostly all veggies, fruits, more beans and things liek that. My hormones were going nuts too and i was slowly gaining weight no matter what i did. It has been a very frustrating couple of years. I have finally decided i cant take it anymore and went back to really low carb. So i am actually about 162 lbs. I swear i have gained month after month after month. No matter how little or how much i ate. No matter if i ate good or bad carbs. It has been really frustrating. So this is what im back to. Hopefully what works or what i thought would work. I have been really doing very low carb for almost 2 wks now and have lost 2 lbs adn then gained back 1/2. I'm just feeling sorry for myself today i guess. I am also finally really having major cravings the past 2 days. I caved when i came home from work today and ate a few bites of a peach and then threw the rest away.
I'm just really down and feeling frustrated and im tired today so thats not helping. Thank you for what you said. It does make more sense to lose slow. I guess i just need to keep things up and trust my body.
Today was not a good eating day. Not terrible....but still. I am still trying to figure out what my ideal numbers are. I know the focus isn't on calories but I feel I ate too many today. Also too much protein. I also weighed in and had my measurements taken today... wasn't very impressive. I just want to get on track and start some steady losing.
I've never heard of maca, so I looked it up on netrition. It has 3 net carbs per teaspoon, so take that into account. What kind of effect is it supposed to have on hormones? I've found nearly anything that effects hormones will cause me to gain weight (or slow down my losses)...you may have the same problem. :/
After reading your other post about your diet being all over the map in the last few years, I'd like to encourage you to relax and give your metabolism some time to settle down. It may take a while for your body to get used to this again and start losing, but I think it will happen. Consistency is really key with this WOE. Stay away from the scale if you can - you'll probably be happier for it.
I am really trying to stay away from the scale but I have been doing that for over a year thinking i was relaxing my diet and gained weight...lol
I am finding myself already wanting to change up my woe because things arent happening fast enough. I have been reading about stillmans and thinking maybe i should try that for a week or 2 to jump start my system or smoething.
I first read about maca on a couple of blogs i follow. I only take 1t per day and it is counted in my carb counts. I have decided to not take it a few days and see if it is having an effect. I have only been taking it about 3 weeks. It is supposed to regulate hormones. I am in premenopause and the last couple of years things have been weird with my body. The weight gain, major acne problems, crazy mood swings. i dont know if there have been any changes in my hormones or not from it. My skin seems clearer but that could be because i have gone back to eating low carb. I have stopped eating nightshades too. So there are too many factors going on. I'm also not eating hardly any nuts at all. Just a sprinkle on my salad sometimes.
I guess i need to quit stressing so much. I'm also craving really bad and that is driving me crazy!!! i havent had a problem with sweet cravings in forever because i was eating a lot of fruit. i havent had an apple now in 2 wks and i have had 1 everyday for years. I am missing them.
Last day of the month, folks. Who has anything to share? Any great thoughts or realizations?
My weight on Aug 1 was 150.6, my weight today was 146.2. So I had a 4.4lb loss this month. Hey, not too shabby for all my complaining.
Sometimes we have to remember to look at the big picture.
I understand the temptation – I've been struggling with the same desire to try something different "just to get things moving." I've done my best to stick closely to NK this month and in the last few days I've finally started getting results again. With hormone swings, we can hit stretches where it seems like nothing is changing. That's when patience is needed. Give this some time to work...at least a few months.
Sounds like you and I are in the same place. The hormones make everything harder, including weight loss. I'm trying to figure out how to deal with all of it, too. I've been on bcp for 6 months and its smoothed things out, but when I went off low carb for 6 weeks I gained weight around my waist...and now it's not budging. I am losing weight, but not there. I'm considering going off the bcp and trying herbal supplements like vitex and black cohosh instead.
Congrats on the weight loss Annette! You must be getting close to goal.
I started the month way, way up after a 6-week binge eating high carb which left me 17 lbs. heavier than when I started (lots of emotional stress, combined with doughnuts constantly available led to comfort eating that spiralled out of control). I started back onto nutritional ketosis on August 5th at 201.1 lbs. I'm down to 194.5 lb. today, so I've lost 6.5 lbs for the month. My jeans are finally starting to fit again.
Thank you MerryKate. I am just so frustrated and at my wits end with this weight.
I have been looking at Stillmans. Even looked at the one the eads have on drinking protein shakes all day and then having 1 meal.
Even looked at meat and eggs. Just everything. I think i know for sure this next week im just going to do mainly meat eggs a little fat and some romaine for salad. But thats it. I'm going to lower my fat some and see what happens with that. Im still going to use fat im just not going to add additional. Just what i need for cooking.
congrats on your loss Annette!!! That is really awesome!!
Oh, I did a dumb thing...I got started watching a cooking show with my Mom, and Jacques Pepin was creating a chocolate soup meringue. Watching him sauté the bananas made me so hungry! And there is nothing I can have as a substitute for bananas... I rarely get irritated by eating NK, but having to give up bananas will do it.
I got smart and remembered I bought some banana extract a while back. I dug it out and whipped up some organic hwc with the extract in it. It was good...really hit the fruit craving spot for me. With a bit of chocolate it could have passed for a banana split. It was also good later tonight on cheesecake.... I do love low-carbing sometimes. The funny thing about the whole episode is that fruit doesn't usually tempt me - maybe because there are so many fruity SF drink mixes out there.
