I shall be pretty excited to be obtaining and recording my data. I'm curious as to what the readings will be given that I supplement with MCT oil. I should think that if I take the reading shortly after waking, then I won't inadvertently be 'gaming' the reading as I think MCT only persists for 3hrs or so and it will have been cleared overnight.

Finally managed to book a Bod Pod assessment - 19 July.

It is good having other people's reading to learn from.

I just started MCT oil about a week ago. I've been taking 1 T in a glass of water, just drinking it in the early afternoon. How much are you using?

I'm taking it to manage migraine, as per: NK maintenance not weight loss

I've just increased to 3-4Tbsp a day because the high temperatures (by UK standards) are increasing the risk of a migraine.

I didn't weigh my food yesterday, but I had a plateful of jalapeño poppers filled with cheese and habanero and wrapped with bacon for one meal, and a some pork roast with braised greens for the second. I also had a small amount of cream in my tea.

This morning, my blood ketone level was 1.2.

I'm guessing I was at or near my upper limit for carbs, but didn't have much protein.

ETA: Wow, I just entered generous guesstimates for my food into my app, and I was way under my estimates. I had under 1000 calories, even with the cheese and bacon, and under 15g total carbs. Interesting.

Things that changed:
Slept 8 hrs instead of 4-5.
Bulletproof broth instead of eggs and meat for breakfast.
THat made the total protein go down. Had a usual but late lunch, and I was happy with smaller portion of meat at dinner---ordered rare prime rib and asked the server to bring a takeout box with the meal. I put away 2/3 of the 12 oz serving and I did not finish what was left on my plate.

I did not eat even one bite of food during the night (night eating syndrome recovery). The first two nites I had bites of an almond butter recipe at 11 pm or so.

The booze, I had it between 5 pm and 7:30, then we went to dinner.

Oh and yesterday I awoke about 3 am. BPBroth at around 8 and then i NAPPED from 9:30 to 11 am. I am not good at napping. It felt good.

I had my BF percentage tested today. It went really well! Since February's visit, I've lost 23 lbs of fat and one pound of muscle. I'm very happy with that result, especially considering I'm restricted from exercise. Everything is going in the right direction.

I'm home now, reading over the report, and it's even better than I thought. I've lost just half a pound of muscle, and 23.5 pounds of fat. Pretty much ideal. Between the information I've gleaned from this and my blood ketone testing I'm a very happy test subject. I'm going back in about 4-5 months.

That is astonishing.

I was reading a report recently where the woman was delighted with her weight drop - yet just over 40% of the drop was from her LBM rather than body fat.

What can anyone say, Ntombi, but KUTGW

Oh, wow. Then she'd have to eat less and less to maintain. Yeah, I'm working hard to avoid that!

The woman with the appointment right before mine was "skinny fat," small but with a higher than expected BF%. The tech was talking to her, encouraging her to stop skipping meals, make sure she eats enough protein, etc. When he got to me and my results, we were both relieved. He was the same one from February, so he just asked what I was doing, said he was impressed, and we moved onto to talk about cell phones.

This kind of stuff helps keep me moving forward, especially when I get discouraged with how far I have to go. My friend was trying to encourage me on our way home by saying I've made it 25% to my goal.

Man, so long to go...

I tend to agree.
It is possible that my sleep has to do with it, and the fact that I still tend to eat a tiny snack once when I wake in the night, though my night eating disorder is much improved. The morning testing was done less than 5 hours after the small snack. Certainly that plays with the glucose numbers, and perhaps the ketones as well, since I may have barely finished burning through the snack as fuel, and thus didn't add many ketones in those hours.

Hard to say, as I don't know how long plasma ketones stay around after you actively burn fat.

I'm taking a break from testing and will do another experiment with it in a couple weeks or so. I'm satisfied that I'm burning fat.

Ntombi, since it's a lifestyle change and you're moving in the right direction, does it really matter that you aren't there yet? You've made the commitment, and you've settled in to the way of eating.
Later you'll have to tweak your intake, to maintain, but for now you're on your way, on your way of eating.

No, it's actually not about the eating, it's about the other stuff: the awkward in between sizes, the lack of clothes, the physical changes, the figuring out goals. That is what's tiresome, not the food or the plan, if that makes sense.

If anyone is wanting to know their personal protein/carb/fat ratio, google keto calculator. There is one that you can adjust the numbers to fit the plan your looking for. It also recommends you re-adjust your numbers monthly, to reflect your changing lean body mass.

So I got the free Precision Xtra ketone meter. I was very impressed with how fast it arrived. The meter came with 10 glucose strips, 10 lancets and a lancing device. I also ordered some ketone strips from Universal Drugstore in Canada as recommended by Ntombi. The meter didn't come with any control solution, though, and it says to use it before using the meter for the first time. But I went ahead and used it anyway, about 7:45 pm, or two hours after supper. I did blood glucose first to try it out, and that was 83, so pretty good. Then my blood ketones were 0.7 mM. I was hoping for hgher, as I know the number is usually lower in the morning. I guess I will try again in the morning, I hope not having the meter checked with the control solution isn't that big of a deal (I did order the control solution for free from Abbott). On the other hand, I haven't been losing very well lately, so if my ketones are low in the morning then I guess I have to work on some tweaks.

I didn't post it in my log, but my first test was the night before the morning the log began. It came back 0.6, and the morning result was 0.5, so I wouldn't worry about it dropping too much overnight.

I didn't get a chance to test yesterday morning because I was running late, but I tested this morning and had blood glucose of 87 and blood ketones of 0.8 mM. Was hoping for a bit higher, but I'm also finally losing weight this week, so I feel like I'm in a pretty good zone. I might test again tomorrow, but that will probably be it for while. It's good to know I can confirm that I am indeed in NK though.

That's what I wanted to know.
I might do another couple days of testing soon.
I haven't been eating at night at all, so it might be a fair test of morning levels. I'll pick a day or two when I sleep well.
