question about daytime blood ketones
 
I have been noticing that my daytime blood ketone readings are sometimes below 0.5 which according to Phinney and Volek would mean that I am not in NK. I get readings of 0.3/0.4. My morning readings are usually above 0.5 though so I am not sure what to think. I am assuming that my meals are what is causing my ketones to go down during the day. Does this mean I am not in NK and my brain is using glucose instead of ketones to function? Has anyone else noticed this? I am eating below 50g carbs a day and my calories are around 1500. My protein is probably around 65 - 70g when this is happening.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I am not sure if it is an issue or what I should be doing about it.

My blood ketones are all over the place during the day (0.2-0.8). In the morning and after 11pm, my readings are between 0.2-0.4. I noticed if I have protein and fat for breakfast my late afternoon reading is 0.7/0.8. If I skip breakfast or only have coconut oil in my coffee, my late afternoon reading stays flat 0.3/0.4.

I didn't see an increase in my blood ketones from eating over 70% fat, cutting my protein and carbs. I aim for around 60% fat, 25% protein and 15% since my ketone readings are the same.

Thanks lemontart for the response. I am trying to learn patterns based on my readings, so your input really helps. I did a two day fat fast and it helped and I also added some low intensity exercise. I was struggling to keep mine over 0.5, especially during the day which is when NK begins. It is getting better now though.
