Hi April! Your calories look way too low, especially since you are just starting out. Unless you are under 5 feet tall, I would suggest increasing calories between 1400 and 1500.

If you start out very low calorie, that does not leave any room to reduce calories once you get close to goal, and may slow your metabolism to the point that you will have to continue eating low cal for maintenance.

Thank you, Lindy and Lisa! I agree with both of you. The 4 previous days I upped calories and gained 3 lbs! So, I was terrified to eat anything yesterday.

I know better then to rely on the scale, but let it rule over common sense anyhow. And seeing you say that is very reassuring.

I think I'll start the day with one of those famous coffee's everyone raves about to up the fat/cal. today. And read up on all of the great tips/advice on here.
Happy Sunday!

Calories: 1,211

Decided to front load my protein intake since I worked out this morning. Workout was intense and my time under-load was 1.5 minute over last week. I'm still getting use the lunges instead of the doing squats, but the resistance bands make leg exercise difficult.

I took a nap this afternoon, which hasn't happened in a while, but it felt damn good. It only lasted 15 minutes while watching Reck it Ralph with the smartest, coolest, sweetest kid in the whole world. It's his favorite movie. Maybe I'm making up for the lack of sleep this past week.

Getting back to my day, I decided to buy frozen wild sockeye salmon from costco and ate it tonight. I didn't start eating cooked fish until my late 20's and salmon is my least favorite fish. I really don't understand what all the hype is about, but I decided to try it again since my taste buds have further matured. Also salmon is considered one of the most nutritious proteins. Next on my list, liver. I'm not going to eat it everyday, but it was pretty good. Sauteed it with a little butter, EVCO and a dash of lemon juice. Next time, I'm going to peel the skin and fry it separately to get it crispy.

I hope my decision to increase my protein intake is paying off. I'm not getting the shots of energy I was using when I was eating more fat, but the energy levels have been steady.

Good night and have a great week everyone!

Ooh, it was a hot one today! This is the point at which I automatically lose my appetite, which is why I've always lost weight easily in the summer. All I want to eat is strawberries, tomatoes and green salad - forget the coconut oil, butter and heavy cream. No surprise - my fat percentages have been down the last two days. I'm trying to just keep my protein and carbs on target and not worry if I get over 70% fat during the heat.

It has not gotten hot here yet (unusual for Texas) but Merrykate reminded me that I need a strategy for NK during the summer months. I have not been drinking protein shakes, but that may be a good idea for when I don't feel like eating. Salads are great too! I love chicken or tuna salad with mixed greens.

Ok, I've been obsessed with reading aout all the ins and outs that you all have taken the time to post, and you all are awesome and so supportive. The advice I got to up calories was just the thing I needed to see a lose this AM, Yea! My confidence is soaring! And I feel great, energized, clear headed, and very satiated.

And so, if all of you who are more experienced then I could take a look at my day so far and tell me how they would round it out. I should be about 1400 cals, but 80% fat. Coconut oil? HWC? What would you do?

Calories: 940 Fat: 78.7 g Carbs: 3 g Protein: 51.8 g Water: 80 fl oz
Daily Calorie Composition: 1% from carbs, 77% from fat and 22% from protein.

Thanks in advanced

So glad you are seeing a loss after upping your calories. There is a ton of info on here that can help you. Just read up on Reddarin's posts. He gives tons of great advice.

Why don't you write down what you ate? I'm not sure what you are going for. Almost 79 carbs?, 3 Protein? ( I'm sure this is a typo). When I need to fill out my numbers, yes, I drink a diet soda (Big Red zero) with an addition of 2-3 T hwc. Instant coke float. Delicious.

Thanks Lindy, the grams were like this:

78.7 grams of fat 3 grams of carbs 51 grams of protein.

Breakfast: coffee/2TBS CO/ 2 TB HWC
Lunch: 2 servings pepperoni
Dinner Chicken breast with Ragu Alfredo sauce

I was on the go all day, so I was winging it, trying to get the fat banged out early on in the day. I'll I'll try to have some HWC with diet soda, that sounds really good.

And, you're right Cheryl, his advice seems to always be spot on! I've read pages of these forums, so informative! I really enjoy reading about others experiences, trials, and successes. Each person's story is so empowering.

Oops, my bad. I totally looked at your totals wrong. Everything looks really good. One thing I did notice when I was totaling my up is I had a really hard time getting in all the protein. Darin said to eat more fatty meats. I was eating tuna and chicken breast. It really helps. Also, if you like cottage cheese you can get 14 g. protein and 100 cals in 1/2 c. That's what I add at night to even up my totals. (along with hwc)

When I first started I went back month by month on NK 80/15/5. April, March, all the way back to Sept. A little out of whack but a LOT of little bits of info. Keep going. You're doing great.

Ok, see what you mean about tuna/chicken. I need more beef in the house. And I've been doing the same thing, reading all the old 80/15/5 threads, it's really incredible to see how much information you can amass this way. Thanks, Lindy

Morning!

Still up 2 lbs this morning. Only registered 0.4 for blood ketones. I finally got some portabello mushrooms so I can have those for lunch to cut down my protein intake. So we'll see if that shakes things up for me...

I picked up some Braggs yesterday and I mixed it with water and added some crystal light Pomtini flavoring. It's awesome! I'm hoping that, like Melanie, it will help release some of this excess water I'm holding. I had a glass last night and another this morning. I mixed some up and brought it to work so I can have it at lunch.

Have a great day everybody!

I also got the unfiltered Braggs ACV on Sunday, after hearing about the great results here. I also use a little Dandelion tea, which is helpful with the edema I get post chemo/radiation/surgery.

Surely those pesky 2 lbs of water will be gone soon, Mrs. Kuby!

I hope lowering protein helps, it's so frustrating to see the scale bounce up. Drinking water with a squirt of fresh lemon juice helps me get rid of bloat.

Can you send me a message please? It looks like you have pm's disabled.

not going to weigh on Thursday, that's day before sharkweek sets in...always puff up that week.

Will soon start taking some extra vitamins like b12 etc to see if I can blast some extra fat, I want to get the scale moving a bit faster if I can.

I stopped taking B12 when I began eating meat again, but still have a bottle of sublingual tablets around. Maybe I'll use them up and see if that helps boost my fat loss.

I found plain greek yogurt with only 5 carbs and 18 g protein for 6 oz, it's Safeway's Open Nature brand. They only had non-fat but I can add hwc to boost the fat content. It isn't as thick and creamy as Fage, but was much cheaper and did not have modified starch added like so many yogurts.

It's easy. Go to control panel. Then hit edit options. Check to enable private messages. Save changes.

I have had the most trying time figuring out how to navigate all this. Just learned to get my Avatar Yesterday!!! Ha. Same thing control panel, edit avatar. check in circle under which picture you choose and save changes.

Another thing, you have to set up your signature yourself. I still haven't done mine.

Newbies can't have signatures or private messages, so for those of us that lurked and read before we joined, we have a while to wait before we can do these things.

Also, Lisa, does B12 help with fat loss? I'd love to know!

I'm really happy with 80/15/5, here's my progress so far, down 14lbs in five weeks:

week one: -6 week two: -5 week three: -0 week four: -1 week five: -2

But, physically I feel fantastic, clear headed, energetic, no cravings, I love this!

Hope everyone has a great day!

B12 is supposed to boost metabolism and fat loss, but I haven't tried it myself.

April, you are doing great! KUTGW.
