Ketosis?

I have been in ketosis the last several days according to my ketosis stick!
I am very careful with carbs and eat lots CO, KG butter, cream!
I do not eat lots of protein either!

I have gone up a lb the last two days!

I thought, when in ketosis, we are to be burning fat, therefore losing weight????

Your thoughts, please?
May

PS..I have ordered a ketone meter..should get it next week!

the theory is you should not be gaining weight, but that doesn't mean you lose it, necessarily, either. there is an aspect of how much food you eat that matters too. it's not as simple as "calories in, calories out" but it still matters.

probably though your gain is constipation or something. you have to look at trends over weeks and months, not days. good luck!

I was in ketosis (according to the urine sticks) and did not lose 1 pound. I started NK with blood testing and was able to sort it all out and start losing...after 2 years of very low carb.

Wow!drjlocar! Are you saying the ketone meter helped you?? Mine should be here next week!

Thanks!! May

It's normal for weight to fluctuate from day to day, even if you are doing everything right. If you have been reading the April NK thread, you might notice people reporting the scale bouncing up or down.

ravenrose has good advice about looking at your overall trend. There really is no need to panic over a 1 lb gain. If the scale continues to go up over the next week or so, then you may need to look at calories, protein, and check for hidden carbs.

Yes, the meter did help. I had tried all the things everyone suggested first and this was the last resort.

Is it possible that you were already in ketosis when you began testing? Another bit of information is that the body has about a 4lb flux of fluid. You could have weighed when you were at the lowest end of that and weighed again at the higher end.

I also really recommend using the meter, because the theory doesn't necessarily apply to everyone. The meter will help you a lot in figuring out what works and what doesn't work for you.
