HIIT?

Just watched a program called "the truth about exercise" and they featured the work of Scottish researchers into a HIIT program

They were doing three intense 20second workouts separated by rests only three times a week...thats it, nothing else, so 3 minutes a week

They said six weeks and their cardiovascular fitness improved dramatically

I saw that too and thought it was interesting. Kind of like the slow burn weight training programs.

I might try it. I think I might have seen an interview where Gary Taubes mentioned it

Sounds similar to Body By Science. I think that book proposes one 12 minute workout per week but the 12 minutes are intense and to muscle failure.

I don't like the sound of "muscle failure"

I saw a youtube of McGuff. He was talking about another subject, cellular metabolism, but he mentioned working out a few times. His description was your workout is really short but at the end of it you are laid out on the floor pooped. Then for the next 2 hours or so your body is in overdrive so your short but intense workout gives you a lot more back than having spent 60 minutes on a treadmill.

Yep, that's exactly how he described it. He said he was kackered for the rest of the day but he felt really good.
